âYou didnât sleep well last night?â Duncan asked his friend out of concern.
He saw Zachary coming downstairs with a tense face. Zachary walked over and sat on the singleâ
seated sofa.
âDidnât you get drunk last night?â Zachary returned a question.
Duncan smiled. He said, âI only drank two glasses. I didnât get drunk.â
After a pause, he added, âYou all have someone taking care of you after getting drunk. Iâm singleâI have no one to take care of me even if I get wasted, so I didnât dare to drink so much.â
Zachary scoffed. âMs. Harmon wouldâve been happy to take care of you.â
With the mention of Lily, the smile on Duncanâs face faded.
âNothing will happen between Lily and I. She has moved out of my house too.â
Lily was prepared to leave Wiltspoon.

Duncan chuckled.
Sam poured him a glass of water.
âSam, whereâs your missus?â Zachary asked.
Sam said, âMissus and Ms. Hunt are taking a walk and admiring the flowers in the garden with Sonny.â
Zachary hummed a response and did not ask more.
He stood and left Duncan to walk out of the house. It was obvious that he was going to look for Serenity Duncan followed after him brazenly.
Zachary turned to glance at Duncan. He said, âWhy are you following me?â
Duncan smiled. âI miss Sonny I want to see him.â
They walked together and soon met the sisters, who were walking back.
âSonnyâ
Duncan called out.
âDunc.â
Sonny did not know Duncan wished to be his father Upon seeing Duncan coming over, the child ran toward him excitedly âSonny, come here. Let Uncle Zak carry you.â
Sonny did run over, but the person who carried him was Zachary, Duncan had already squatted and opened his arms. He was waiting for Sonny to throw himself into his arms, but Zachary came in between them.
The sisters walked over.
âMr. Lewis,â Serenity greeted Duncan politely.
He acknowledged her greeting with a smile and looked toward Liberty.
âGood morning, Mr. Lewis,â Liberty greeted calmly.
She faced his gaze openly without avoiding it too.
