Chapter 1544
Married at First Sight
Duncan saw the calmness in Libertyâs eyes.
She truly was not interested in him at all.
That knowledge made Duncan feel defeated, but he soon got over it.
Liberty had experienced a failed marriage before. Her exâhusbandâs family was also pestering her at that moment. She was repulsed by love and marriage as a result.
Duncan would need a long time to melt Libertyâs heart and make her believe in love and marriage again.
He also gave himself a few years to pursue her and wait for her reply.
He was not in a rush anyway He was willing to keep waiting unless Liberty got married to someone else.
âGood morning, Liberty.â
Duncan returned Liberty a greeting.
Zachary left with Serenity with Sonny in his arms.
As he walked, he complained to his wife, âHoney, I was drunk last night and woke up with a headache this. morning. I think my headache worsened because I couldnât see you after opening my eyes.â
Serenity hooked his arm and said softly, âI didnât wake you up because you were sleeping soundly Does your head still hurt? You can continue sleeping after breakfast Itâs the holidays. You can get a good restâ
âCome and rest with me.
âOkay Iâll be with you.â
The unhappiness Zachary felt when he did not see his wife upon waking up completely dissipated.
He was that easy to coax.
Duncan watched Liberty and asked concernedly, âHow are you feeling today. Liberty?â
Iâm doing fine. Thank you for your concern, Mr. Lewis,â Liberty replied formally.
After a moment of silence, Duncan said, âLiberty, youâve become a lot colder toward me.â
âThatâs not true. Iâve always treated you like this, Mr. Lewis.â
Liberty gazed at Duncan calmly. âYouâve helped me out a lot I feel grateful to you. Why will I be cold to you?â
She seemed as if she had not changed, but she did. She was cold and distant to him.
âLiberty, I really like you.â
Duncan confessed his feelings in front of her.
Liberty was still calm. âThank you for your love, Mr. Lewis. However, Iâm not interested in relationships right now. Please stop thinking about me. Itâs a waste of time. You and Ms. Harmon are a good match, Mr. Lewis.â
âItâs true that Lily and I have equal social status and background. Our mothers are best friends too. My mom has been trying hard to get Lily and me together, but I donât feel attracted to her at all.â
Duncan looked toward Liberty with a serious gaze. He said earnestly, âLiberty, Iâm not a young and rash. boy anymore. Iâm thirtyâsix. Iâm clear about what I want and know what Iâm doing.
âEvery word I say comes from my heart. I know youâre not interested in relationships now I can wait. I just hope that youâll treat me as usual and not be cold and distant to me.â
Liberty met his gaze and said, âIâm not avoiding the problem, Mr Lewis. I simply donât have feelings for you, so I donât want to give you false hope and waste your time.
âMr. Lewis, Iâm a divorced woman. Iâm not saying that divorced women donât have the right to pursue love again. Itâs just that I donât believe in love anymore. I donât want to be involved in romantic relationships Running my breakfast diner and earning money to raise Sonny is enough for me.
âI know youâre not being impulsive or fooling me, but we really donât suit each other. Please donât waste your efforts on me anymore, Mr. Lewis. Youâre a great guy. If youâre willing to turn your gaze elsewhere.
youâll find a better girl who suits you more than I do.â
Liberty had no doubt that Duncan liked her.
However, she was no longer a young girl who was inexperienced in love. She would not jump into a relationship rashly.
Apart from the existing difference between she and Duncan, the fact that Mrs. Lewis disliked her also stopped her from falling in love.
Liberty had finally managed to escape the conflicts she had had with her inâlaws. She never wanted to have a headache or get angry over issues with her inâlaws again.
Why would she make things difficult for herself again?
Moreover, she truly had no feelings for Duncan.
She never thought of becoming a couple with him.
âIf youâll excuse me, Mr. Lewis.â
Liberty said apologetically, âIâll be heading into the house first.â After speaking, she walked past Duncan.
