Chapter 227
The Love From Vengeance
227: TRUTH ARIELâS POV âYes, I can, Ariel. You do not have to worry about me. Letâs just get Andre to the hospital as soon as possible.â Luke carried Andre in his arms. âIs your car far from here?â
âNot that far,â I replied. âIâll lead the way.â
I walked to Janice, holding her hand. I began to traipse forward. But after seconds, I turned around to check on Luke. He held Andre, walking towards me. He was going through a lot of pain; I could see that. Yet he decided to put up with it, acting like there was nothing wrong.
âDonât feel sorry for me. Iâm totally fine. We have to make it to your car as soon as possible. Andre was shot, and we canât let him die. Iâm pretty sure you donât want that.â
I let out a deep sigh. âYouâre right. Letâs go.
And as we continued walking towards my car, I felt really grateful for Lukeâs strength and determination.
He was carrying Andre, who was heavy, and yet he didnât show any signs of struggle.
âAre you sure youâre okay, Luke?â I asked, concerned about him.
He smiled at me, âYeah, Iâm fine. Letâs just focus on getting Andre to the hospital.â
After a few more minutes of walking, we finally reached my car. Just when I was about to open the door, I heard Luke stumble behind me. I quickly turned around and saw him struggling to hold onto Andre.
âLuke, are you okay?â I asked, rushing towards him.
He let go of Andre and leaned against the car for support. âIâm fine, just a bit tired. Iâll be okay once I get some rest.â
I helped him to the passenger seat, and he leaned back, closing his eyes. I quickly got into the driverâs seat and started the car. I began to drive to the hospital, worrying about these two men in my car, who risked their lives trying to save mine. They both needed medical attention, and I couldnât wish to lose any of them. I didnât know, but I couldnât be sure if I still wanted terrible shit happening to Luke.
When we arrived at the hospital, I parked the car and rushed to the passenger side to help Luke out.
He insisted that he was okay and didnât need any help, but I could see the pain and exhaustion on his face.
âCome on, letâs get you both inside,â I said, linking my arm with Lukeâs for support.
We made our way inside the hospital, and the nurses quickly came to our aid. They took Andre to a room for treatment, and I tried to convince Luke to get himself checked as well. But he stubbornly refused, saying that his wound on the shoulder wasnât serious and he just needed some rest.
After Andre was taken care of, I helped Luke to a nearby bench and sat down next to him. I was just 227 TRUTH staring at him, not knowing the word to utter.
âLuke,â I said softly, and he glanced at me. âIâm sorry.â
He placed his hand on mine and gave it a reassuring squeeze. âDonât blame yourself, Ariel. Iâm just glad I could help. Plus, Iâve been shot before; Iâll be fine.â
I laughed a little, recalling the time when he was shot and I had to be by his side at the hospital. Yeah, you sure have.
After a while, the doctor came out of the room. I stood up immediately.
âHow is he, doctor? Hope heâs doing alright.â
The doctor smiled at me. âThereâs no need to worry, miss. Heâs fine and stable now. He just needs some rest.â
I let out a sigh of relief. âThank you so much.â
âJust doing my job.â The doctor wanted to walk away, but then his eyes caught Luke. âSir, youâre bleeding.â
Luke looked around before setting his eyes back on the doctor. âIâm sorry. Are you talking to me?â
âOf course, who else would I be talking to? Youâll have to come with me so we can take care of that wound on your shoulder.â
âDonât worry, itâs not that serious,â Luke disagreed.
âNo, sir. The wound inflicted on the shoulder by a gunshot possesses a dire potential to prove fatal, as it can lead to severe blood loss, damage to vital structures, and potential infection, ultimately jeopardizing your beloved life.â
Luke looked at him for a moment, opening his mouth slightly. âOkay, that is serious.â
âExactly,â the doctor brought out. He called several nurses to take Luke to a room in the building, and they did that.
I slowly sat down, still thinking about what happened and what I witnessed. Luke saved my daughter;
now, I didnât even know what to say. Was he actually the one who killed Lukel? Was that woman lying to me when she said he took away the life of my son?
âMommy,â Janice uttered, and I turned to her. âYou look really worried.â She treaded closer and sat next to me.
âItâs nothing, Janice,â I responded softly, wrapping my hand around her shoulder. âIâm just concerned about Andre and your father.â
âMy father?â Janice gave me a confused face. âThat man is my father?â
I breathed out deeply. âYes, Janice. Luke is your father.â
âMy father has been alive the whole time? Why didnât you tell me about this, mommy?â
227 TRUTH âI didnât want to.
âWhy? Was he a bad man?â
I paused for a moment. Then I held her hand. âHe saved you, didnât he?â
Janice nodded.
âSo there, you have your answer.â
âIf heâs a good man, why did you keep him from us all these years?â
âI have my reasons,â I answered in hushed tones. âYou stay here, Iâll be back.â I caressed her hair before standing up.
I went to the room where Luke was being taken care of. The moment I entered, the nurses left.
âAriel,â he called my name and sat on the bed right away.
âHow are you doing?â I asked him, walking closer.
âWell, Iâm doing great. Just canât spend much time here at this building.â He looked around.
âHmm, thatâs too bad. Youâll have to get some rest.â
âRest?â He chuckled. âIâll be getting the fuck out of here anytime soon.â
I shook my head. âYou have got to be kidding me. Youâre taking your business more seriously than your health?â
âWell, I got to do that.â
âHealth is wealth. Iâm sure youâre familiar with the saying.
âWealth is health. If you donât have money, how will you be able to buy drugs? How will you be able to get surgery done?â
âUhmm, I donât think thatâs how theâ¦â
âOkay, okay, no lectures concerning this health stuff. Youâre not the doctor here.â
âI donât have to be a doctor first to tell you that. Iâm just being concerned.â
âOh, youâre concerned?â Luke smirked. âI thought you wanted to make my life a living hell.â
I sighed. âWell, Iâm not thinking straight at the moment.â
Luke made a confused face. âYouâre not thinking straight? Like, you being concerned about me, youâre notâ¦â
âOkay, okay, thatâs not what I meant.â I cut him off. My tone softened, âI have to ask you a question.â
âAnd what is that?â
