Chapter 228
The Love From Vengeance
228: A LOT TO HANDLE ARIELâS POV âDid you kill Lukel?â I asked Luke.
He let out a deep sigh. âWell, I think Iâve told you this a billion times. Iâm not the one who killed your son. You never listened to me, and even when you did, you never believed me.â
I crossed my arms, sniffling and looking away. âWell, I still donât know if I should believe you.â
âTell me something, Ariel.â
I looked at him. âWhat is that?â
âWho is this person that filled your mind with such a lie?
I sighed. âI donât know her, but I thought⦠Nevermind. Itâs all my fault.â
âSo, you now have a change of mind?â
I looked at him immediately. âSomething like that.â
âDo you believe me now?â He asked, looking into my eyes.
I averted my gaze. âLook, Iâm sorry for being rude to you; Iâm just sorry for everything, the accusations and all that.â
âNo, Ariel. Iâm the one who should be apologizing. Iâve done a lot of terrible things to you, and I totally understand your point here.â
âWe did have some great moments, Luke. And to be honest, I really liked them.â
âWe can make more then.â
âUhmm, excuse me?â
âI love you, Ariel. Iâve really missed you. You have been a great person, honestly. All these years, I didnât realize that. But now, I finally know who you are. You are the one for me.â
âOkay, Luke. You need to get some rest.â I stood up and started walking to the door.
âYouâre leaving now? Seriously, Ariel? Youâre just going to end our conversation like that?â
âThe doctor made it clear to us that you shouldnât stress yourself. This discussion might affect you in some way.
âDonât worry about me; Iâm totally fine. This is just a little wound; I donât know why youâre taking it too seriously.â
âJust take care of yourself, Luke.â
âYouâre going now?â
228 A LOT TO HANDLE I refused to give him an answer. I made my way to the door, and he called my name as I was about to open it. I paused, not glancing back at him.
âSo that you know, Mason is the one who killed Lukel.â
And by the mentioning of his name, I shed tears after I had slowly closed my eyes. I didnât give Luke a response; I just looked left the room.
At that moment, I burst into tears and went to take a seat on the cold metal bench outside the hospital room.
Janice sat next to me and looked into my eyes with her cute, innocent face. âMommy, why are you crying? Whatâs wrong?â
I tried to hold back my tears, but they kept flowing. I couldnât hide it, hold it, thinking about my son and the times we spent with each other, having the knowledge that heâs no longer with me, was just so painful.
I took a deep breath and tried to compose myself. âJanice, mommy is just feeling sad,â
âWell, donât be a sad mommy.â
I looked at her, and my heart broke. My little girl didnât deserve any of this. She had already lost her brother, and now she was seeing her mother in tears. I wiped away my tears and pulled her into a hug.
âItâs just a lot to handle, sweetheart. Mommy is just trying to be strong,â I said, trying to reassure her.
âBut why? Did anything terrible happen? Is Uncle Andre dead?â
âNo, heâs not. Itâs just that I miss your brother so much. Heâs no longer here with us. Heâs in heaven.â
âI know that, mommy. And I miss him.â
I miss him too, baby. I miss him too.â
âYou donât have to think too much, mommy. Lukel will be smiling at you right now in Heaven. And we will both join him there one day.â
I glanced at her. âYou really think so?â
âI know so.â
âI hope so cause right now, Iâm about to find this person who killed him.â
Janice pulled away from the hug. âWell, mommy, Iâll tell you who did it. I donât want you to be sad anymore.
â
I smiled at her, impressed with her words. I hugged her again, grateful to have such a wonderful angel by my side. âThank you, Janice. Mommy loves you so much.â
But then I processed her words, what she just told me. âHold on, did you just say youâre going to tell me who killed Lukel?â
228: A LOT TO HANDLE âYes, itâs Uncle Mason. Heâs the one who also kidnapped me.â
âHow did you know that? Who told you?â
âHe said it himself. So, Mommy, are you going to make him pay?â
âJust give me a minute, okay?â I told her, and she nodded. I stood up, walking away to make a phone call.
LUKEâS POV I just lay there, staring at the white ceiling, thinking about my recent conversation with Ariel. I didnât even know what was going on now. What was going to happen after I got out of there? I could just brace myself for whatever was going to take place. And I hoped Ariel would finally let us get back together.
All these thoughts kept crawling into my head, and then suddenly, the door to my room opened, and in walked a little girl, Janice, with an innocent face, lovely eyes, and a wonderful voice. She walked closer to me, her steps hesitant and unsure.
âHi,â she said softly, looking up at me with a smile.
I didnât respond. I was still silent, looking in another direction. I just felt weak following Arielâs actions.
âI just wanted to come and say thank you,â Janice continued, her voice filled with gratitude. âYou saved my life.â
I was suspended after that but still didnât utter a word.
Janiceâs smile widened. âMy mommy told me everything.
I gave her a curious look. âWhat did she tell you tell you?â
She raised an eyebrow. âYou can guess.
â1 I let out a deep sigh and turned my face away. What the hell was wrong with me?
âShe told me that youâre my father.â
I looked at her once again.â She did?â
âYes, but can you please tell me what happened between the both of you? Why did the two of you separate?â
I hesitated, not sure how to answer. Did I really want to tell my daughter I did no know she existed?
That her mother and I had a messy and complicated past? But then Janiceâs innocent and curious eyes were looking at me, waiting for an answer.
âItâs kind of a long story,â I finally said, my voice barely above a whisper. âBut Iâm glad she finally told you about me.â
Janice smiled again and reached out to hold my hand. âMe too. Iâve always wanted a daddy.â
228 A LOT TO HANDLE I couldnât hold back the tears that were filling my eyes. I had missed out on so many years with my daughter, but here she was, sitting by my side, without even knowing the full story. She was indeed a sweet soul, just like her mother.
âThank you for coming to check up on me, Janice.â
Janice squeezed my hand. âOf course, daddy. Iâll come and visit you every day until you get better.â
I laughed. âYou donât have to do that.â
âWhy?â
âBecause Iâll be leaving here anytime soon.
Janice laughed as well. âYou must really strong.â
The door opened immediately, and Ariel stepped foot inside. âWeâre not safe.â
