Chapter 237
The Love From Vengeance
237: PANICKING?
ARIELâS POV 1 frantically looked around the parking lot, my heart racing in fear. âJanice? Janiceâ I called out, hoping she would answer. But there was no sign of her.
1 ran up to a couple getting into their car, âExcuse me, have you seen a little girl around here? She was wearing a pink dress.â
They shook their heads, âNo, we havenât. Sorry.â
I felt a lump form in my throat. Where could she have gone? I turned to another person, an old man walking towards his car, âExcuse me, sir. Did you see a little girl around here?â
He gave me a sympathetic look, âIâm sorry, I havenât seen anyone like that.â
âOkay, thank you,â I told him, and he nodded before walking away.
I felt tears welling up in my eyes. Where could my daughter have gone? I ran back to my car, my heart pounding in my chest. Why did Janice have to act like this now? It wasnât nice, wasnât cool, wasnât fun either.
She might be with Luke right now. Yes, she must probably be with him. But I didnât think Luke would still be around. Even so, I decided to go check.
I rushed to that location, and I spotted Luke about to enter his car. I didnât waste any time running to him. âLuke! Have you seen Janice? Is she with you?â
âNo, she isnât,â he replied.
âBut have you seen her?â
He looked at me with concern, âNo, I havenât. Whatâs wrong? Is she missing?â
âI canât find her. She was right here, and then she disappeared.â I felt my voice break as I could feel myself about to burst into tears.
âOkay, you mean she just vanished?â
âYes, she left, and I have no idea where she is right now.â
âWhy would you let her move like that?â
âItâs not my fault, okay? I was searching for my keys which fell in my car.â
âOkay, great. Itâs not your fault. The whose fault is it?â
âI canât find my daughter here. Iâm in no mood to joke right now.â
Your signâin rewat. Come to claim your free coins. C âWho said I was jok âPlease, no jokes, alright?â
Luke chuckled, âIâm not joking, Iâm just trying to lighten the mood. Letâs think logically, where could she have gone?â
I sighed, âI donât know. Maybe she ran off to the ice cream truck.â
âOh no, not the ice cream truck!â Luke exclaimed, mockingly. âWe better call the FBI, she must have been abducted by the ice cream man.â
I rolled my eyes, âVery funny, Luke. This is not the time for jokes.â
âYou told me that already, and you think Iâm cracking jokes right now?â
âIf youâre not cracking jokes, what are you doing, huh?â
âItâs simple, Iâm just trying to lighten your mood. You worry too much, Ariel.â
âI worry too much? Itâs my daughter weâre talking about here.â
âUhmm, you think I donât know that?â
âYou know what? I donât have time for this. I just need to focus on finding my daughter.â
âOur daughter,â Luke told me and I glared at him slowly. âWhat? I didnât say anything wrong, did I?â
I let out a sigh, not giving a fuck about him. âNow, where could Janice be?â âMaybe she went back to the car?â He suggested.
âNah, sheâs not there,â I replied, not glancing at him.
âWhy do you feel so?â
âDonât ask me that, okay? Sheâs not there!â
âTake it easy, Ariel. No need to tell like that.â
âWhat? I wasnât even screaming.â
âOh, is that what you think?â
âLuke, please. No more jokes.â
âDo I look like Iâm joking?â
âOh gosh,â I spoke underneath my breath. âFor the love of God, do not ask me that.â
âYou remind me of someone right now,â he said.
Who exactly?â I asked, giving him a curious look.
âOh, youâre that eager to know? I thought the only thing on your mind right now is finding your Oh sorry, our daughter.
âAre you even thinking straight right now? Your daughter is nowhere to be four and youâre just here, talking nonsense. Youâre not even concerned about âDonât say that, Ariel. I am concerned about Janice. But you want to know why Iâm not freaking out? Itâs because I believe that my daughter is in safe hands. Nothing bad is v happen to her.â
âI hope so,â I said lowly.
âOkay, okay. Letâs think. Where would Janice go if she got lost?â Luke asked.
âKnowing her, probably to the nearest candy store.â
âCandy store? She loves candy that much?â
âOh you have no idea. She loves candy, books, chocolate and so many stuff. Oh sheâs just so wonderful.â
âAnd she loves me too.â He grinned.
I gave him a face that made it seem like he was crazy. âPlease donât.â
âYeah, yeah, whatever. Letâs go check the nearest candy store then.â
âRight,â I said and we both began to make our way to the candy store.
âDonât worry, Ariel. Weâll ind her. And then you can ground her for giving you a heart attack,â Luke joked while weâre both walking along the road.
âGrounding her wonât be enough. Iâm thinking about sending her to military school,â I joked back.
âThere there, thatâs the spirit!â
âOh my gosh.â I covered my mouth immediately.
Luke laughed. âCome on now. You have to smile. Janice is okay, sheâs in safe hands.â
âHow are you so sure about that?â
âIâm just being optimistic, just the way I am in all of my business projects.â
I shook my head, deciding not to say anything. We arrived at the candy shop, and we got in, but didnât see Janice anywhere.
âGreat, sheâs not here.â
Luke looked at me. âI thought you said she was at the candy store.â
âExcuse me sir, that was not what I said.â
âOh yeah, I totally remember,â he responded, looking around. âWhere could she be now?â
âI genuinely have no idea. What if sheâs been kidnapped?â I whispered, my voice trembling.
âCome on, Ariel. Donât jump into conclusions. You worry too much.â
âSheâs my daughter. I have every right to be worried about her.â
âWhat about me? Isnât she also my daughter? But do you see me being worried or saying negative things?â
âOh gosh, this girl is going to give me a heart attack,â I uttered lowly.
âFollow me to my car.
Luke left the store. I turned around and my eyes caught the cashier. She was just staring at me.
âCan I help you?â She asked, chewing a gum.
âNo,â I replied, faking a smile. I left the store forthwith. I spotted Luke a little bit far from me. How was he that fast?
âHey, hold on! Wait for me!â
I managed to reach him, he did slow down, but he didnât stop walking. The both of us advanced towards his car and he opened the door for me.
I looked at him in surprise. âOhâ¦.thank you.â
I entered and then he shut the door before bursting in as well. We both put on our seatbelts.
âYou want to know something, Ariel?â
âWhat?â
He let out a sigh. âNevermind.â
I gave him a ridiculous look and then he started the car. He drove slowly, as the both of us were looking through the windows. Going further, I saw some people gathered along the road, not too far from us.
âWhatâs that?â My eyes were still fixed on the crowd. And my words caused Luke 238: DONâT DO THAT LUKEâS POV With my hands fixed on the steering wheel, I had my eyes on the people around. I was really curious to know why there was a crowd around there. I knew we shouldnât be distracted in our search for Janice, but my mind was telling me to go and check out what was happening around there.
âWhat do you think is going on out there?â I asked Ariel who was as curious as I was.
âI donât know,â she answered.
âDonât you think we should go check it out?â I suggested, although that was the feat going on in my mind. It was something I was going to follow through with anyway. Arielâs opinion didnât matter in this one.
âWe have to find Janice. We canât waste any more time.â
I laughed softly. âI knew you were going to say that. Donât worry, okay? We will find Janice.â
She took her eyes off me, setting them back on the road.
âRight after Iâm done checking that out,â I added and drove in that direction, where the people were.
I got out of my car and these folks were close to a threeâstory building, which stood tall and proud, its brick facade shining in the warm sunlight. It was at striking sight, with its height reaching up to about to sixty feet, Iâd say. It was extremely tell and on top of that building was a familiar face. A person that I would hate and love at the same time. It was my mother.
She stood at the edge of the building, looking ready to end her life. People were pleading with her to come down, but it was like everywhere was mute to her. No oneâs words were going through her ears.
âAriel stood close to me, not taking her eyes off the scene as well. âLuke, isnât thatâ¦â
âMy mother? Yeah, I know,â I cut her off.
âIs she trying to kill herself?â
âThatâs what weâre seeing right now.â
âI think you should go and stop her,â Ariel suggested. I glanced at her immediately. âWhatâs with that face, huh? Sheâs your mother.â
