Chapter 264
The Love From Vengeance
264: A VISIT ARIELâS POV Andre opened his eyes and stared at me. He looked kind of energized, but he sat on the bed, and I moved closer to him.
âAndre, Iâm so glad youâre awake.â I hugged him.
âOuchh, take it easy,â he told me.
âOh, sorry.â I let go of him.
âIâm glad you came to see me. I thought you werenât coming back after leaving me at this hospital.â
âNo, why would you think like that?â
âBecause you didnât show up yesterday,â he replied.
âWell, I had some plans yesterday,â I replied, and he gave me a skeptical expression. âFine, Iâm sorry.
âThereâs no need for you to apologize; Iâm not mad at you.â
âStill, I should have come to see you yesterday. Iâm really sorry.â
âBut you came today. So you see, itâs all okay.â
âOh really? Youâre sure about that?â
âDuh, do you want me to be a grumpy ass like Squidward Tentacles? Hell no!â He rolled his eyes in a silly way.
I couldnât help but laugh at Andreâs joke, He always had a way of making me smile, even in the most difficult of times. âWell, Iâm glad youâre feeling well enough to make jokes,â I said, still giggling.
Just then, a nurse walked into the room with a hospital food tray. Andreâs face fell, and he let out a dramatic groan. âOh no, no, not hospital food,â he said, pretending to be horrified.
âGood morning, miss. I brought breakfast for the patient,â the nurse told Elizabeth.
âWell, thank you.
âSeriously? Isnât there any other stuff I can eat apart from those guys?â
The nurse chuckled. âIâm sorry, itâs all we have for now. But I promise, itâs not that bad,â she said with a smile. âIâll leave it here for you.â
As soon as the nurse left, Andre turned to me with a mischievous glint in his eyes. âI know you like me, Ariel.â
I glanced at him immediately, and he said right away, âAs a friend, as a friend.â
I shook my head, laughing. âSilly.â
He continued, âBut I didnât know you liked me enough to bring me hospital food,â he joked.
âHey, donât blame me. I wasnât the one who brought it.â
âOh really?â
âYeah,â I rolled my eyes playfully. And please, I wouldnât torture you like that,â I replied as Elizabeth walked closer to us and handed me the tray. I took it from her with a smile before returning to Andre.
âYou two can continue with your conversation; Iâll be going now,â she told us.
âYouâre leaving?â André asked.
âYes, son.â
âBut come on, stay a little bit longer.â
She laughed. âAriel is here for you; sheâll keep you company. And besides, I have some things to take care of.â
âThings like what?â Andre quizzed her, arching an eyebrow.
âBusiness, of course.â
âRight, great,â he said lowly, turning his face away. He didnât look quite happy hearing that.
âI promise to come back, Andre.â
âYeah, itâs okay, itâs okay,â he uttered, still looking in a different direction.
âAriel, take good care of him, okay?â Elizabeth fixed her hand on my shoulder.
I nodded. âI sure will.â
âWhat about Janice? Is she with you? Itâs been quite long since I heard from her.â
âYes, sheâs with me.â
âIâm guessing she must be more beautiful than you right now.â
I laughed softly. âSheâs always beautiful.â
âNo lie about that. Just the way you are.â Elizabeth held my chin, still smiling at me. She let go anyway.
âBy the way, Iâm sorry for your sonâs death.â
âI know, itâs really painful. But God knows why some things happen.â
âYes, he sure does,â Elizabeth whispered, looking at me. She could feel the sadness in my eyes at the mention of my son. Okay, Iâll be going now. You both take care and take good care of André, alright?â
âYes, alright,â I responded while she left the room. After that, I turned to Andre. âOkay, sir. Itâs time for you to eat.â
âEat what? That?â He gave the tray an irritating look.
âYes, anything wrong with this?â
âAriel, youâre not new to hospitals. You do know what hospital food tastes like.â
âIt tastes great.â I smiled widely at him, and he quickly turned his face away.
âHere we go,â he muttered.
âCome on, André. You have to eat.â
âIâll eat, but not that. Iâd really love it if you got me some real food, please.â
I chuckled. âYou are going to eat this.â
Andre laughed. âYou know, you reminded me of the time when I was still a kid, going back to school back then. And my mom would tell me to eat this, but I found the food horrible and was like, âHell no.â
But then she would make sure I ate it.â
âExactly, and thatâs what Iâm about to do here.â
âYouâre kidding, right?â
I shook my head, giving him a playful smile. âOh no, Iâm goddamn serious.â
âI can just grab that tray now and toss it to the ground.â
âI know you, André. Youâre such a gentleman and a sweet soul. Thereâs no way youâre going to do that.
âOh wow, you think I canât do that?â
âI know you canât,â I smirked.
He suspired. âFine, you win. Now come give me that food.
I snapped my fingers. âThatâs the spirit.â I transposed the tray closer to him.
âThanks, Ariel. But I think Iâm going to need your help. I canât move my arms,â he said, giving me a helpless look.
My face changed immediately. âYou canât what now?â
âI donât know; I just canât feel anything.â
âSince when?â
âRecently, I think it should have been about five minutes.â
âWhy havenât you informed the doctor about this?â I asked him, looking worried. âThey shot your belly.
How did⦠Ughh nevermind. I need to call a doctor.â
The moment I stood up, Andre burst into laughter. I slowly turned around, giving him a confused face.
âWhy are you laughing?â
âBecause I was just joking with you. Nothingâs wrong with my arms.â
âAre you sure?â
âYes, Ariel. I was just kidding. I wanted to see your reaction.â
âYou almost gave me a heart attack.â
âWell, youâre right here at a hospital,â
I couldnât help but laugh, âOh, thatâs it. Youâre eating this food, and your devoted friend will have to feed you.
âHospital food?â
âYes, sir. Hospital food.â
Andre gave me a mock glare. He stated, âYouâre enjoying this way too inuch,â although he was clearly attempting to conceal his grin.
âYes, 1 am.â I grabbed a spoon and fixed it to the food. Now, itâs time for you to open your mouth.
âNo way Iâm doing that.â
âStop being so stubborn and open, will you?â
âFine,â he said inaudibly, and I opened his mouth and fed him a spoonful of food.
âMmm, this is kind of good. Itâs not as bad as I thought.â
âThe nurse told you it wasnât that bad.â
âI canât believe a nurse tells you.â
I looked at him, quiet for a moment. âI literally have no idea what youâre saying. But Iâm just going to keep quiet on this one.â
âYeah, right. So, howâs Luke? Heâs doing okay, right?â
