Chapter 353
The Love From Vengeance
353: NEW PATH FORWARD ARIELâS POW âLarry, wait!â His motherâs voice cut through the tense atmosphere, her tone pleading as she stepped forward, reaching out to her husband. âHarold, please, you canât do this. Heâs Our Son.â
Mr. Kingstonâs expression remained stoic, unmoved by his wifeâs plea. âHeâs made his choice, Martha.
âHeâs chosen to defy me and undermine everything weâve worked for.â
âBut disowning him? Is that really necessary?â Mrs. Kingston implored. âHeâs just young and idealistic.
He doesnât understand the consequences of his actions.â
âHe needs to learn, Martha,â Mr. Kingston replied sternly. âHe needs to understand that there are repercussions for going against the family.â
âBut heâs your son,â she insisted, desperation creeping into her voice. âYou canât just cast him aside like this.âWeâll lose him forever.â
Mr. Kingston sighed heavily, his features softening ever so slightly at the sight of his wifeâs distress.
âMartha, you know how important it is for us to maintain control. We canât afford to shc weakness, especially not now.â
âBut at what cost, Harold?â Mrs. Kingston pleaded, her eyes searching for any sign of empathy. âIs our pride worth more than our own flesh and blood?â
Larry stood silently, his eyes darting between his parents, his face a mask of conflicted emotions. I could see the turmoil raging within him, torn between loyalty to his family and standing up for what he believed was right.
âPlease, Harold,â Mrs. Kingston continued. âThink about what youâre doing. Is this really the legacy you want to leave behind?â
For a moment, there was silence as father and son locked eyes, a silent battle of wills playing out between them. Then, with a heavy sigh, Mr. Kingston relented, his shoulders slumping in defeat.
âFine,â he muttered grudgingly. âBut heâs on his own. He canât expect any support from this family if he chooses to walk this path.â
Mrs. Kingston let out a breath she seemed to have been holding, relief washing over her features as she stepped forward to embrace her son. âThank you, Harold.â
Larry returned his motherâs embrace. âThank you, Mom. But I cannot follow through with 16 NEW PATH FORWARD this.â
His mother let go of him at that very moment, giving him a surprised face. âWhat? What do you mean by that?â
âYou wronged Ariel and her family, and if you donât decide to change things back to the way they were, Iâm not stepping foot in this house.â
âSee, I told you. Heâs an idiot,â Simon mocked him.
âShut up, Simon.â Larry silenced him. âYou have no right to be talking here since youâre the cause of everything.â
âOh, shut up,â Simon spat back..
âSilence!â Mr. Kingston said harshly, then turned to Larry with a hard glare. âLarry, is this what you want?â
âYou know what I want, father.
âIf youâre talking about this whole Walker thing, youâll only be fooling yourself. Because here is no way Iâm changing things; the deed has already been done.â
ee, then. You just have to know something, Father,â Larry said inaudibly, moving his face closer. âI wonât rest until The Walker Company rises again.â
Wout bastard,â Mr. Kingston said bitterly. âIs this how you hate me? Defying me out of spite?â
âHeâs not defying you out of spite but out of a sense of justice and integrity,â I chimed in.
Enough of this nonsense.
Mr. Kingstonâs eyes narrowed as he turned his attention to me, his expression one of disdain. âAnd who the hell gave you the right to talk, huh? âA mere outsider meddling in family affairs?â
âUhmm, it seems like youâre forgetting the cause of this whole argument,â I retorted. âAnd I may not be part of your family, but I care deeply for Larry.âI wonât stand by while you belittle him for having the courage to do whatâs right.â
âYouâre nothing but a naive girl, thinking you can change anything. Youâre just as foolish as my son.â
âMaybe itâs time for someone to shake up your narrowâminded perspective, Mr. Kingston. Larry is a great man, ten times better than your useless son. He deserves better than to be ridiculed by his own father.â
353: NEW PATH FORWARD Mr. Kingstonâs face contorted with rage, but Larry spoke up with a calm yet resolute voice before he could unleash another barrage of insults.
âEnough, Father. I wonât tolerate any more disrespect towards Ariel or myself. If you canât put an end to your vile acts, then goodbye.â
With that, Larry took my hand and angrily walked away, leaving his family brimming with rage as if they were just staring at us.
We got into my car, and the two of us settled there in silence, no one saying anything. Then I let out a deep breath.
âIâm sorry that had to happen,â I said, breaking the silence between us.
Larry turned to me. âWhat had to happen?â
âYou and your family.âBecause of me, you had to go through all of this. Because of me, your relationship with them is ruined.â
His expression softened as he let out a sigh. âAriel, none of this is your fault. You didnât you for cause any of this. My familyâs actions are their own, and I wonât let them blame them.â
âBut still, I canât help but feel responsible. I never wanted to come between you and your family âYou didnât,â Larry reassured me. âIf anything, youâve shown me what true courage and integrity look like. And Iâll stand by you, no matter what.â
I gave him a warm smile. âThank you, Larry.â
âYou donât have to worry, Ariel. Weâll get through this together. Iâm going to make sure your familyâs business is as stable as it used to be.â
âBut I have to ask you something.â
âWhat is that?â
âWhy did you save me all of a sudden? I mean, we know each other, but we barely talk.â
âAre you seriously asking me that?â Larry raised his brow, looking at me.
âI donât know; Iâm just curious. Thatâs all.â
âWell, Ariel. Thereâs just something special about you,â he told me with a smile.
I looked at him for seconds before I finally said, âUhmm, excuse me?â
353: NEW PATH FORWARD He chuckled softly. âI mean it. You have this way of standing up for whatâs right, even when itâs difficult.
âAnd I admire that about you.â
I felt my cheeks flush at his words, a mixture of surprise and gratitude washing over me.â Thank you, Larry. That means a lot to me.â
âYouâre welcome, Ariel. And if standing up for you means defying my family, then so be it. Youâre worth it.â
Touched by his sincerity, I couldnât help but smile. âI have to say, Iâm grateful to have you on my side.
He returned my smile, his gaze holding mine for a moment longer before turning back to the road ahead.
He knew about me the whole time, and it was as if he didnât. We met a couple of times, and we barely had a conversation. But when he just stood up for me, I had this monumental feeling towards him, like we had been comrades for years.
âSo, where will you be living from now on?â I asked him, being concerned.
You donât have to worry about that.
âYou can live with me if you want,â I suggested.
âThanks, but I have somewhere else in mind.â
âOkay,â I nodded, deciding not to ask further.
