Chapter 391
The Almighty Dragon General
This money was supposed to be used as capital for her companyâs recovery.
âThatâs right, she received this money from someone else. It never actually belonged to her in the first
place. Youâre not just going to sit back and watch your family get extorted by loan sharks, right?â David
blurted desperately.
âIf the loan sharks donât end up killing you, I will!â Infuriated at her sonâs shamelessness, Gladys
continued hitting David with the broom. âThea, please. Iâm your only brother.â
âPlease, Thea⦠Save Davie. Heâs learned his lesson! He wonât repeat this mistake ever again.â The
couple knelt at Theaâs feet and continued to plead. After giving David a beating, Gladys looked at Thea.
âThea, you have money on your card, donât you? Why donât you help them pay off the debt? You can
earn back the money eventually, but if you lose your brother, heâll be gone forever.â
âMom â
Thea was put on the spot.
This was not just a paltry sum. It was over a billion dollars they were talking about here! âMom, the
loans arenât legitimate anyway. How about we contact the police?â

âD-Donât!â
David crawled toward Thea and prostrated himself in front of her, âMaximus has men all over the place.
If you call the police, he will take action. Our family will be done for!â ââ¦but 800 million of debt with a
600 million dollar interest is just too much!â
Thea was not willing to pay off their debt.
Besides, it was Davidâs fault anyway. Why did she have to be the one who paid for his mistakes?
âCall the police. Thereâs no way they can go against the police, it doesnât matter how influential they
are.â
Thea was steadfast in her resolve.
David knew what Maximus was capable of.
Maximus was a powerful man.
Calling the police would not solve anything. If they called the police, the only ones to suffer would be
the Callahans. âI beg you, Thea. Donât call the policeâ¦â
Thea ignored him. This matter was out of her hands.
She pulled out her phone and called. Dismayed, David murmured, âItâs over. Weâre done for.â
Gladys said nothing. She wholly believed that calling the police was a great idea. Meanwhile,
Benjamin, who was oblivious to everything, sat by the side and smoked his cigarette.
Soon, the police came.
After asking a few questions, they told Thea and the others theyâd see to the matter.
Then, they left after trying to reassure them with half-hearted platitudes.
At the same timeâ¦
Maximus was at a clubhouse with a chief from the police force.
âJackie Cohen⦠I promise that youâll receive some benefits after this is over.â
Jackie lightly waved him off and said, âMaximus, try not to let things get out of control. Cansingtonâs still
under the jurisdiction of the Blithe King, after all.â âItâs going to be fine.â
Maximus bragged with a smirk on his face. âIâve found out that Theaâs backer, the Black Dragon, made
enemies out of many powerful people. Theyâre all chomping at the bit to kill him. They wonât bat an eye
if anything happens to the Callahans.â He was not only a shrewd man but astute as well. With these
traits, Maximus was able to seize the opportunity and rise at the perfect time. Otherwise, he would bit
have waited for the bigwigs to go into hiding before he rose as the new king of the Cansingtonâs
underworld. At the Callahans, the whole family gathered. David talked listlessly, âI told you it wonât
work. The police left after a few simple questions. Maximus should have been notified by now. In time,
he will retaliate against our action.â Hearing this, Gladys was gripped with fear.
She pulled at Theaâs sleeve, âThea, these people are vicious and cold blooded. We shouldnât get
involved with them. Since you have money on your card, why donât you just pay them off? Thatâll settle
all their problems.â David chimed in, âThatâs right. Iâm begging you, please. We still have time. Just
withdraw the money!.â
Thea stood up and told them off, âDavid, you were the one who caused this. Why do I have to clean up
your mess?â
âMom â
David once again burst into tears. He headed for the window and prepared to jump again.
âItâs all my fault. I should just die.â
Alyssa pulled him back in time.
Though Gladys knew it was Davidâs fault, he was her only son. Since the damage had been done,
there was no use crying over spilled milk. She stood up and reprimanded Thea, âSomeone else gave
you the money in the first place. Why canât you just use it to save your brother? Heâs your only brother!
Are you really willing to watch him jump off the 8th floor?â âIâ¦â
âWould it take me throwing myself over the balcony too to make you fork out the money?â After she
said that, Gladys also made her way to the window. Benjamin intercepted her.
He turned and looked over at Thea, âThea, we canât offend these powerful people. Just pay up and itâll
all be dver.â
Everyone in Theaâs family was pressuring her to deal with this problem.
Thea cried out in exasperation, âFine! Fine! Iâll pay. Are you satisfied now?â
