chapter 136 Thirty-Four
Sinful Mates 1-3
Evelyn's POV
It was finally Monday, Orion, Thaddeus, and Ryland left Sunday night to go god knows where
and I didn't ask knowing I could escape this place for a few hours. Thaddeus said they would be
back Tuesday from wherever they were going. Getting up early, I quickly get dressed before
heading to the garage. I managed to find Thaddeus car keys in his car. Like seriously that's just
asking for it to be stolen, not that anyone would find this place anyway, I only know which direction
to drive, knowing that eventually I would come across a sign telling me which way to continue. I
know Leven is halfway because we stopped there for petrol on the way here from his parentsâ
house.
Getting in the car I carefully reverse it out, groaning when I see the tyre marks. I will definitely
have to rake the grass when I get home, I know they won't miss that with the eagle eyes.
The drive took over an hour and half, pulling into the first service station I came to. I put gas in
it, took me ten minutes to figure out how to pop the fuel cap but eventually I figured it out before
heading to the park. When I got there, I was early, and I couldn't help watching the time on my
phone. Spotting April's Volkswagen pulling in, I got up and walked over to her car opening the
passenger door for Lana. Lana squealed excitedly wrapping her arms around me and hugging me
tight and I hugged her back.
April got out; she looks tired but smiled softly to me which I thought was a little odd
considering her parting words last time I spoke to her. She walked over wrapping an arm around my
shoulder and I figured she was just playing nice because Lana was present.
âI'm sorry about last time Evelyn, I shouldn't have said what I said. I was tired and hadn't been
sleeping well. I know the fire wasn't your faultâ she said, and I nodded before Lana started pulling
me toward the swings. We both sat on the swings and April sat over at the table and chairs reading
a book while keeping a close eye on us. We spoke about her new school, her grades. Lana had even
got an after-school job at the local deli for a few hours a day.
Around lunch time, I was going to suggest we go to a café I drove past on the way to the park
when April told me she actually made a picnic basket. We sat on the grass on a rug eating for a bit.
âSo where are you living now Evelyn?â Asked April.
âNot far from here I don't know the name of the suburbâ I answered vaguely, remembering
what Ryland said about not telling anyone. April nodded realising I wasn't going to answer.
âHow is work, obviously you're not working at Parse hospital anymore?â
âYeah, we moved for work. I work at a doctor's surgery now," she answers.
âYou will have to come visit the new house; you will love it. Right near a reserve so peaceful out
there,â she states giving me a warm smile.
âSo those men you were with, who are they? They look familiarâ Asks Lana. I didn't like this line
of questioning, but I didn't get a chance to answer when their eyes darted behind me.
âHer matesâ His deep voice said directly behind me and I felt the blood drain from my face. His
words sounded normal, yet I could hear the anger they were laced with having grown accustomed
to their different tones.
âHi, I am Ryland,â he says holding out his hand for April to shake. She nervously shook his hand,
and I could see the terror in her eyes. Ryland was a very intimidating man even if they weren't my
mates, I would run at first sight of them. April looks to Lana and smiles, but I noticed the tremble of
her bottom lip.
âWell, we better be off, you will have to come visit soon Evelyn. I have an early shift in the
morning need to get back before darkâ she says. I help her pack everything up, delaying when I
have to deal with Rylandâs wrath that I could feel festering through the bond.
Walking Lana to the car, I could feel Ryland's eyes watching my every move. Dread filling me.
How did they know where I went, and why were they home early?
âOh, Evelyn I tried ringing you earlier, is something wrong with your phone?â Lana asks when
she winds the window down.
âSometimes I don't get receptionâ I tell her. April leans across Lana to speak to me.
âWe can come see you next Friday if you like. We can meet here again I have next Friday offâ
she tells me, and I nod.
âOkay sounds goodâ
âI will ring youâ Lana states before eyeing Ryland behind me.
âNice to meet you" he says waving to her, and she smiles nervously and waves back. I watch as
they pull out and drive off. Nausea rolling over me as I turn to face Ryland. His expression alone
making me want to run.
âYou're back early?â I announce. He glares at me taking a step forward and I take two back,
almost about to run but as soon as I turned to run, he pounced on me. His arms wrapping around
my waist and ripping me toward him.
âDo you have any idea how much trouble you are in when we get home?â he growls, his voice
sending goosebumps all over me
Ryland reaches into my back pocket pulling out Thaddeus keys before letting me go.
âGet in the fucking car Evelynâ He yells at me making me flinch.
âNo, I am not going anywhere with you when you are this angryâ I stutter out stepping away
from him. His eyes turning pitch black before he steps forward and grabs my arm roughly walking
me to the passenger side. He rips the door open before pushing me in and slamming the door and
walking to the drives side.
Ryland gets in starting the car and tearing out of the car park driving alarmingly fast. So fast he
was passing other cars like they were standing still.
âI can't believe you would be so stupid to leave without telling us and you actually thought you
would get away with it?â he says taking his eyes off the road and looking at me.
âI didn't tell them where you lived okay, geez I don't see what the big deal is, and April was
niceâ I tell him. He growls loudly and I could feel it vibrate through every cell in my body.
âYou are lucky I was able to talk Thaddeus out of coming to get you, this would have ended
badly if he cameâ Ryland says speeding up even more.
âPlease slow down" I tell him when he hits a bump and I nearly smack my head on the roof.
Ryland chuckles darkly before going faster.
âPlease Ryland you're scaring meâ I tell him gripping the seat petrified as he zipped between
cars on the highway.
âScaring you, I am scaring you? Now you know how we felt when we returned to find you
goneâ he says not slowing down. With Ryland driving the trip took less than half the time. I was
beginning to feel car sick when I saw the hidden turn off. Ryland not even slowing down as he
turned the car sharply making it skid along the driveway and making me slam into the door. His
hand reaching over and gripping the front of my shirt and pulling me back onto the seat. He
slammed the breaks on as he pulled up and I put my hands out to stop from hitting the dash,
jarring my hands before being thrown back wards in the seat, my hands tingling painfully.
I managed to get my seatbelt off, my hands shaking violently as I open the car door before
puking everywhere narrowly missing the side of the car.
When I hear the front door slam open against the outside of the house, I look up and see
Thaddeus. His glare making a shiver run up my spine and my blood run cold. I panic, taking off
heading toward the forest surrounding the property.
I know they warned me about running from him, warned me so many times, but I wasn't
thinking straight. Fear making adrenaline pump through me and flight or fight took over. I knew I
could never fight them off and I also knew I would never be able to outrun them but that didn't
stop my body from acting as any sane person would by running for their life.
I hear a feral growl rip through the air, birds taking off from the trees as it echoed and bounced
of them. I didn't even get ten metres before I felt my feet leave the ground before being slammed
onto the grass knocking the air out of my lungs. Thaddeus black eyes staring down at me as he pins
me down. I hear Orion scream out to him when suddenly the grass catches on fire forming a circle
around us. I watch the flames get closer moving in around us.
His entire body is shaking in rage. I feel it through the bond making my blood run cold as ice.
Thaddeus rips my arms above my head and leans down his nose going to the crook of my neck as
he inhales my scent.
âYou're scared,â he states. His words cold and I feel tears start to brim. âYou should be,â he says,
and I struggle against his grip, feel the flames moving in closer licking at my fingers and I cry out at
the pain.
Next second, I feel his fangs sink into my neck making me scream, pain radiating everywhere
before I finally pass out.
