Chapter 1066

Spoiled by the President

Nell raised her head, only to find her gaze fell flat on Gideon’s firm jaw.

The corner of her eyes welled up. She was not sure if it was because of the emotions she had for him ten years ago, or if it was just simply because she was frightened at that moment.

She reached out her hand towards him. In a hoarse voice, she said, “Mr. Leith...”

His whole body stiffened.

As she spoke, Nell realized that she had been crying.

What followed closely was the man’s calm voice. “Don’t be afraid.”

The sound of fighting could be heard from a distance as the men bellowed in rage.

Someone yelled out, “Gideon Leith! We’ll never leave you alone as long as you mean harm to our boss! Even after death, we’ll come back as ghosts and haunt you until the day you die.”

After that, a series of explosions could be heard.

Nell was so frightened that she could not move. Gideon, on the other hand, did not pay much attention to what was happening afar because he knew that his men had already gotten the situation under control.

With a swift move, he carried Nell into his arms and placed her at the passenger’s seat. Never looking back, he drove away, only stopping when they reached a flight of condos.

She had never stepped foot out of the condo after this incident.

As they were still on a break, the school was still closed. With no place to go to, Gideon had somehow allowed her to remain there in the condo, checking on her wellbeing once in a while, if not all the time.

Nell felt that the man was a rather peculiar person. She knew nothing about him, yet somehow he was being so nice to her. She did not understand the reasons behind his actions.

All was calm and Nell waited for her holiday to end. Just when she thought that the worse had passed, she found herself staring back at a man’s silhouette in the dead of the night.

It was not just any man. It was Jeff Flinders, the man whom she had saved a while ago. Their meetup was a rather unusual one and was the total opposite of a normal reunion.

Nell hid in her room as Jeff slipped quietly into her unit. Rummaging through her belongings, she noticed that he was looking for something.

Fear gripped through her heart. Although she was still unsure of what had actually transpired between them, she could tell from the time spent together with Gideon that Jeff was not a good person. Rather than friends, they were terrible foes.

That was why Gideon had been so furious with her when he realized that she had saved Jeff.

Thinking about this, she silently grabbed a metal pole as she crept up to him. In that split second, she seemed to forget who Jeff was.

If she could not defeat him years ago, what made her think that she could tackle him this time? After all, she was no master when it came to fighting.

As an experienced fighter, Jeff instantly knew that Nell was behind him. Letting out a grin, he turned and instinctively grabbed the metal pole just as she was about to strike. He narrowed his eyes at Nell. “So, he brought you back after all.”

“Tsk, tsk, tsk,” he continued, “Had I been half as passionate as Gideon had been, my life would have probably ended up on a different course today.”

Upon saying this, his hands curled into fists as he grabbed the collar of her shirt, lifting her into the air as he threw her against the wall.

“Don’t blame me for doing this since you started it first. If you’re worried I might hurt you, don’t. I won’t do that, not until he brings me what I want.”

A sharp pain erupted at the back of her neck, and that was the last thing she heard as she felt herself black out.

She woke up to find herself lying again on the same ship.

Jeff seemed to adore this cruise ship a lot, probably because it was surrounded by nothing by the openness of the ocean. Perhaps, it made him feel safe. That was probably why he chose this as a location to meet up for the transaction.

Although she did not know about the details of the transaction, she could narrowly make up a few words through the gap under the door.

They were talking about something called the Arcane...Jade?

The Arcane Jade!

Yes, she was affirmative that she had not heard it wrongly.

Nell immediately came to her senses. Of course, she knew what that was. In fact, it took her ten years to know of the origins of the Arcane Jade.

Even if her memory had failed her, their conversation made what she needed to know about the Arcane Jade clear enough.

Immediately, the door was swung open and two men dragged her out. With Gideon standing opposite him, Nell was pushed forward as Jeff raised his hand and grabbed her by her neck.

If Jeff flexed his muscles, there was no doubt that he would snap her neck into half.

“Hand over the Arcane Jade and I’ll let her go. How does that sound?” Jeff threatened.

Gideon was expressionless. “Do you think I care about her life?”

“Why would you have come if you didn’t?”

“Hah!” Gideon let out a cold laugh as he steadily took a seat. “I’m just here to see how you break your oath and kill another in front of me.”

The color on Jeff’s face drained. “How did you know...”

Jeff suddenly roared with laughter. “Spare my life? Do you think I’m afraid to die after all these years? Don’t you know how much I want to die? That way, I can finally escape from all these shackles tying me down.”

Upon saying this, he glanced at Nell.

As the man standing opposite Jeff narrowed his eyes, a glint of light shone dangerously through them.

“Unlike you, I want no part in such desires. You’re a capable man, Mr. Flinders, but you lost yourself because of love. On the other hand, I am just a normal man. I won’t repeat your mistakes and fall in love before I finish my priorities in life.”

Jeff choked in anger.

At this moment, the sound of gunfire rose.

The two men looked shocked as a boat approached theirs, and the driver cackled with evil laughter, “You’ve been surrounded, Jeff Flinders! Free the hostage, or else, we’ll resort to force!”

Gideon creased his forehead.

It was not his men. D*mnit! His superiors must not have trusted him enough to do this. Why must they ruin everything when he almost had it done?

Nell clung tightly onto Gideon’s shirt, still in shock. Just at this moment, a loud bang tore through the commotion.

Fired from afar, a bullet passed through both Nell and Gideon’s body.
