Chapter 1069

Spoiled by the President

A deep-set fury illuminated underneath it as Gideon narrowed his eyes.

Not understanding what they had just heard, confusion filled Gregory and Vickie’s faces.

Nell read Gideon’s face and immediately understood it all. Her heart sank. It was obvious that he knew what Jeff was saying.

This also meant that Jeff had been telling her the truth earlier on. Gideon had been hiding things from her.

At this moment, Gideon knew that he could no longer keep this a secret. In a cold voice, he replied, “You mean the Arcane Jade?”

“Yes! Hand them over or I’ll kill her right in front of your eyes!” Jeff retorted. He consequently raised his hand and wrapped his palm around Nell’s neck.

Her delicate neck laid in the mercy of his grip. Thin and slender like white reeds, it looked as though he could snap it into half with just one move.

Squinting his eyes, Gideon instinctively shouted, “Don’t you touch her!”

Somehow, Nell started to feel bad. She shook her head and said, “Don’t care about me, Gideon. He won’t do anything to me, so just leave.”

Her sentence broke off into the air as Jeff tightened his grasp. Unable to breathe, her face became white as he continued to strangle her.

Seeing Nell this way made Gideon feel as if his heart was being squeezed tightly. He wanted to rush over to her side to free her from this torture and get her out of this place.

However, he perfectly knew what Jeff was capable of doing. He knew that if he rushed over this instance, he would not be able to save her and she might lose her life instead. He hated himself for not being able to do anything.

Gideon stood frozen in his tracks as he thought about this.

Seeing that he had finally threatened them, Jeff let out an evil smirk. He lowered his voice to say, “This is your last chance to hand over the four pieces of the Arcane Jade, Gideon. Do it now or I’ll kill her with my bare hands. Let’s see if your guns are faster than my fists.”

Gideon did not speak. On the other side, Gregory and Vickie were still shocked by this revelation.

Four pieces of the Arcane Jade? What was he talking about?

They had only retrieved one piece from their trip to Shennan.

Since when did they own four pieces?

Jeff stared anxiously into Gideon’s eyes. As he did that, so did Gregory and Vickie.

Lowering his voice, Gregory whispered, “What’s going on, Gideon? Are you hiding something from us?”

Gideon did not say anything as he locked his gaze on Nell. Looking into her eyes, he seemed to understand what she was thinking as despair filled his heart.

A while passed before he spoke. “The four pieces aren’t with me now, but if you release her, I’ll have it sent over to you immediately. You have my word.”

Jeff guffawed at what he said. “Do you take me as a fool, Gideon? As if you’ll give me the four pieces when I let her go. It took you ten years to get your hands on these pieces. Only a true idiot will believe you.”

As soon as he said that, a look of bewilderment flashed across Gregory and Vickie’s faces.

From the moment Jeff kidnapped Nell, Gideon knew that he could no longer keep things a secret. Moreover, Nell and Jeff had already met ten years ago.

Knowing Jeff’s character, he would definitely tell Nell the truth whenever he had the chance to do so. After all, it was the perfect opportunity to lead the lovers astray from one another.

It looked like everything had happened according to what he had predicted.

Regret overtook him for not explaining to Nell earlier. Initially, he had planned to let her know about the truth after sorting all of these out. From the way things were now, it seemed quite impossible to do so anymore.

It took him a while to muster all his strength and ask her a question in a deep voice, “You knew about this, didn’t you, Nelly?”

Her fragile neck lay between Jeff’s palms, so Nell did not reply.

She silently stared into Gideon’s eyes as a turbulence of emotions filled hers. There were traces of disappointment and anger but even more of sadness and reluctance. Perhaps, she was unwilling to bid him goodbye this way.

Gideon knew what she was curious about, yet he did not know how to explain the situation to her. The only thing he could say was, “Don’t overthink it, okay? There’s a reason behind all of this, and I’ll explain things out to you one day.”

While Nell remained silent, Jeff started to lose his patience and tightened his grip. “Gideon Sam Leith! Make up your d*mned mind, will you? I told you I’ll kill her before your eyes if you don’t give me what I want. I’ll kill the old woman inside too!”

Gideon gave a dry reply, “This has nothing to do with my Ma, Jeff Flinders. This is our business, not theirs. Let her go!”

Nell gritted her teeth. “Let my mother go and I’ll get you what you want.”

Jeff smiled coyly. “Forget about it. One should rely on no one but themselves. However, let me offer you a piece of advice. Don’t get too full of yourself and become overconfident in men. You’ll never know if you matter to him as much as he matters to you.

“While you have given your all, he might not think the same about you. You just never know.

Nell had never regretted her actions so much. She knew that Jeff was a lunatic who was capable of doing anything. He was never normal, to begin with. His views were bizarre, and even the way he presented himself had an air of abnormality around it.

How could she have been so dumb to comply with the plans of an evil man? What a terrible person she was!

She felt tears well up under her eyes as tears streamed down her face. Glancing at Gideon, she said, “Leave without me, Gideon, just go! Don’t give him what he wants!”
