Chapter 1068
Spoiled by the President
He shook his head and let out a sigh. âHe lied to all of you from the beginning. He used you and never took you as someone he loved. You, Gregory, and Vickie were nothing but chess pieces in his game.â
As Jeff tried to lure her on, Nell could not help but feel her heart sink. As her face turned pale, she mustered all her strength and denied the allegations, âNo, stop lying to me. I wonât believe a single word that you said.â
Upon saying this, she stood up. âIâm going to find Gideon and demand for the truth!â
Barely able to walk properly, Nellâs body swayed unsteadily as she tried to make her way out. When he realized what he said had taken an effect on her, the corners of Jeffâs mouth lifted into a smirk.
âWhy donât we make a bet, Nell?â
Nell paused. Turning around, she looked at him and said, âWhat bet?â
âTen years ago, you were shot because Gideon refused to trade you for the Arcane Jade. Itâs understandable back then because you two were total strangers. Why would he have cared about a strangerâs life? Things have changed significantly now that youâre his wife. If he loved you, heâd do anything he can to save you. Will he make the same choice ten years later? Do you wanna bet what he will do?â
Nell was completely frozen in her tracks. She could not deny that Jeff did raise a very tempting offer. The more you care about someone, the more you want to know about that person.
Nell supposed that if another person were in her shoes, they would not be able to resist that temptation too.
She was no god. She was just a normal human being who had desires too. In this case, it was her desire to find out about the truth.
A tiny voice rose from the back of her mind, telling her to give in to that temptation. It was no secret that Jeff was desperate to obtain the Arcane Jade.
Moreover, it did not matter if she agreed to his devious bet or not. With Vickieâs life on the line, he would definitely retrieve the Arcane Jades in no time. Either way, he would get the Arcane Jade anyway. Therefore, it would not matter if she agreed to the bet, would it?
At this moment, Jeff placed a phone on the table.
âIf you agree to our bet, Iâll call Gideon straight away and tell him to meet us here. By then, you can finally find out if he cares about you or not.â
Nell bit her lip and clenched her fingers hard on the edge of the table and released them again. She continued to do this numerous times as thoughts clouded her mind. She could not make up her mind.
Jeff was not in a rush. Staring at her like a predator, he waited patiently for her to give him an answer.
A while had passed before a tiny voice rose. âOkay,â she replied.
Jeffâs mouth spread into a wide grin. âIâll call him now.â
Gideon answered the call after a few dial tones.
After Jeff notified him about their location, Gideon immediately ordered the pilot to change the course as they sailed in the said direction.
Gregory stared into the empty ocean, his eyebrows pressed into a frown. âI have a bad feeling about this,â he said.
Vickie asked, âWhatâs wrong?â
âJeff went through tough measures to kidnap Nell, but he didnât name his price on the phone just now. I know he wants to trade Nell with something, but with what? Why now, after so long? Doesnât this seem fishy to you?â
Gideonâs face was expressionless as he stared into the bottomless ocean. He lowered his voice and said, âWe still have to go no matter what he wants. We have to save Nell.â
Vickie nodded her head in agreement. âYeah. We have to get Nelly back no matter what, and the only way to find out what he wants is for him to tell us when we meet him there.â
Gregory nodded.
Soon, they noticed a shiny object floating on the ocean upfront.
Vickie exclaimed in surprise, âWeâre almost there! Thatâs their cruise ship ahead!â
Gideon fished his phone out and gave Jeff a call. âWeâre here. Can you tell us now what you want from us?â
The man at the opposite responded in a sleazy tone, âWhatâs the hurry? We can talk when you board my ship, but let me warn you. I donât want to see anyone other than Gregory and Vickie. If not Iâll...â
âI donât need anyone else to deal with you,â he replied in a low growl.
âHa! Letâs see if youâll still say that later.â
Jeff ended the call.
Sitting next to him, a puzzled look was pasted on Nellâs face. âIâm sure you knew each other for some time.â
A dull wave of emotions rushed over him as he locked eyes with Nell.
Nell grew silent. It seemed that this feud had been going on for quite some time. What a fool she had been not to notice all this.
She was lost in thought when Jeff broke the silence. âTheyâre here. Letâs go.â
Nell nodded as she followed him out of the cabin.
The sun was raging along with the wind.
Although it was already winter, it did not affect the weather much due to the geographical location they were in.
A gust of wind blew from the north so strongly that Nell found it hard to stand on her feet. As she slowly made her way to the deck, she could see another cruise ship stop from afar.
A small boat was lowered onto the ocean as three people sailed in their direction.
Anxiety suddenly overtook Nell. She did not know if what she had done was correct.
All she knew was that she would bear all the consequences that stemmed from her decision.
The small boat soon arrived. Naturally, the crew was there to lift the boat onto Jeffâs cruise ship.
As Gideon, Gregory, and Vickie approached them, Nell could hear her heart pounding against her chest.
Jeff subsequently ordered his men to lead the small group to the deck.
By this time, the group had arrived and were standing together on one corner of the deck while Nell and Jeff stood on another. A sense of intimidation arose in the air.
Gideon lowered his voice and said, âNow that weâre here, tell me what do I need to do for you to let Nelly go?â
A faint smile was plastered across Jeffâs face. âNow, now, thereâs no rush. How do I know if youâve got what I want?â

Laughing, Jeff replied, âItâs time to stop beating around the bush, Gideon. Whatâs the point of dragging it out anyway? You should know by now what it is that I want.â
