Chapter 143
Spoiled by the President
The sight of the child sleeping peacefully warmed Nellâs heart.
She cautiously retrieved her arm to reposition the child comfortably on the bed. The child grabbed onto her arm subconsciously and mumbled, âMommy!â
Nell froze. Her heart ached.
The child in front of her was overly affectionate. She sat down on the bed again to pat the girl gently on the back. Nell finally retrieved her arm after the little girl fell into deep sleep, not forgetting to turn off the lights before leaving the room.
Old Madam Quinton was standing by the door. She grinned immediately when the woman came walking out.
âDonât worry, Lizzyâs already asleep. You should have an early rest too.â
The old lady nodded. âYouâre a good person, young lady.â
Nell appeared shocked but quickly smoothed away the surprise with a smile.
A good person? She did not agree.
It was true that she felt naturally close to this child. Perhaps it was because the child had been exceptionally enthusiastic toward her on their first encounter!
Nell brushed it off. She went back to her own room after saying goodnight to the old lady.
Over in the master bedroom upstairs, Gideon was crafting a message to the old lady.
Gideon: [What on earth are you doing!]
Old Madam Quinton: [Rascal, keep your mouth shut! Iâll teach you a lesson if you dare say a word!]
Gideon: [Grandma, you couldâve come over casually if you wished to meet Nelly. Why beat around the bush and even bring Lizzy with you? And you actually told Lizzy to lie?]
Old Madam Quinton: [You donât know anything. Would I have come all the way to test the woman if I trust your judgement? Hmph! How dare you take my kindness with such ill intention! Youâre just as heartless as your Dad!]
Gideon: [......]
Why bring up his father all of a sudden?
Gideon: [Well, can you rest assured now that youâve met her?]
Old Madam Quinton sent a smiley emoji.
Old Madam Quinton: [Yes, completely assured. Iâll tell you this, Nelly is a good lady and donât you dare bully her. Iâll give you a lashing if I learn about your mistreating her!]
Gideon: [......You better think about how you should explain yourself to her!]
No more messages came from Gideon after that.
The old lady put her phone away as well. She felt somewhat diffident upon thinking of Gideonâs last text.
Nelly was such a tender, understanding, and considerate person. It seemed unlikely that she would blame her!
She felt more anxious the more she tried to convince herself.
Lizzy did not sleep well. She woke up, still in a bit of daze, and extended her little hand toward the old lady who was standing by the door with anxiousness written all over her face.
âGreat Nana.â
âEh? Whyâs Lizzy awake?â
Lizzy scanned around the room and pouted when Nell was nowhere in sight. âWhereâs Mommy?â
âMommyâs left to accompany Daddy. Go to sleep. Great Nana will stay here with you, alright?â
Lizzy blinked back.
âAre Mommy and Daddy making a little brother for me?â
âYes, thatâs right. Youâll have a little brother soon.â
âOkay, for the sake of my little brother, I wonât go looking for Mommy.â
Lizzy fell asleep again within minutes. The old lady finally heaved a sigh of relief. She quickly retrieved her phone to deliver another message to Gideon.
âLook, both of you are not young anymore. Try for another baby soon! Lizzyâs always alone by herself. She needs a playmate.â
The other person did not reply.
The next day.
Early in the morning, Nell received a phone call from work. One of the artists encountered an emergency that needed to be dealt with urgently.
She had initially planned to arrange the departure of Lizzy and her great nana. However, she was left with no alternative but to call that off. She first had to leave to solve the thorny issue at work.
Old Madam Quinton grinned at her before she left the house.
âDonât worry. You can help us out after youâre done with work.â
Although Nell thought the old ladyâs attitude was rather strange, she did not think twice and took her leave after nodding quickly at the latter.
Gideon intentionally delayed his time at home this morning. He waited until Nelly left before declaring sternly to the other two. âHead back to the capital by yourself or Iâll arrange for someone to do so. Your choice!â
The old lady, who was visibly annoyed, pouted at his indifference.
âIâve just met my great granddaughter-in-law and I want to stay here longer! Iâm not leaving.â
The little dumpling tagged along and nodded frantically. âYes! I want to stay with Mommy too!â
Gideon smiled sarcastically at their reaction. âSure, Iâll get her to come home now and tell her the truth. You better think of a good way to argue your defense!â
Frustration rocked through the old lady upon seeing the man fishing out his phone. She quickly stopped him from doing so.
âAlright, alright, weâll go. Happy now?â
She rolled her eyes with bitter resentment.
âTo think that Iâve gone through all the hardships in raising you since young. Now that youâve turned into the great man that you are, you canât even tolerate living under the same roof with your grandma. Ha! Heartless ingrate. I wouldâve abandoned you by the road side if Iâd known better.â
Gideonâs face darkened.
However, he could not be asked to argue with the old lady. He turned around to instruct Matthew. âDrop Old Madam and Little Miss at the airport.â
Matthew nodded and quickly returned with the car. He was all smiles when he opened the car door.
âOld Madam, Little Miss, please!â
The old lady glared resentfully at Gideon one last time and gave a snort of contempt before entering the car reluctantly with Lizzy.
Nell received a message from the old lady not long after she arrived at the office.
It explained that they had contacted their family. She told her that they were now on the way to the airport, getting ready to go home.
This caught Nell by surprise but she thought things should be fine since they had contacted family.
They exchanged a few words over the phone. Lizzy promised to visit again by the end of the phone call.
Over in the airport, the old and the young people were just leaving the convenience store when two familiar figures entered their sight.
Lizzy was the first to react. âGrand Aunt!â She shouted before dashing forward in excitement.
Jean turned her head in surprise to find a little pink dumpling running toward herself at the speed of a bolt of lightning.
Shocked, she opened her arms subconsciously to receive the incoming thing. Her eyes widened in astonishment when she finally realized it was Lizzy.
âLizzy, Mom, why are you here?â
Stephanie, who was standing to the side, also smiled politely. âHello, Old Madam.â
Old Madam Quinton was also stunned to bump into them. She nodded slightly before shifting her attention back to Jean. âWhy are you here? Didnât you say youâre going abroad for the fashion show? Why are you here in Jincheng?â
Feeling somewhat diffident, Jean struggled to come up with a reply.
