Chapter 272

Spoiled by the President

The two elderly were definitely disappointed.

However, since Charles said that she was Gideon Leith’s wife, they naturally could not force it any further.

The Old Madam sighed in lament.

“Good girls like her either don’t like Lee or are already married. At this rate, when can Lee get married and give me a big and chubby grandson?”

Charles’s expression sank slightly at the words.

“Mom, you don’t have to be so anxious. Lee just returned to the Griffin daily, so we can’t push him too hard. If he doesn’t have the heart himself, then it’s useless no matter how anxious you are.”

The Old Madam also understood this reasoning, but she just could not help herself.

After thinking about it, she eventually sighed and did not continue this topic.

That night, after Nell returned, she told Gideon about the interesting old lady she met outside the stadium.

Gideon was not interested in these things, but seeing that she was in high spirits, he could not help but be happy for her as well.

Suddenly remembering the phone call she had with Janet during the day, Nell told Gideon excitedly, “Did you know? Janet is due soon.”

Gideon raised an eyebrow.

What did that have to do with him?

Nell counted with her fingers. “There’s still a month left. As the child’s godmother, I want to go to Country F to accompany her when the time comes, so you should come with me!”

Gideon frowned.

Without even thinking about it, he refused. “I’m not going.”

Nell naturally did not let him do as he pleased as she said bluntly, “No, you have to go!”

“Since I’m the godmother, you’re the godfather. How can you not go if I go?”

Gideon kept quiet.

Then, he smiled coolly.

“I don’t want to be a godfather. I’d rather be an actual father.”

Nell did not reply to him.

After being stunned for a few seconds, she finally understood what he meant.

Her face instantly turned red. She looked left and right to make sure that no one was around before hissing in embarrassment, “What nonsense are you saying?”

“How can you call that nonsense? We’re a married couple. Isn’t it natural to have a child?”

The man spoke while pulling her into his arms.

Nell could not help but blush even harder.

The two of them were hugging when a servant came over to report, “Young Master, Young Madam, a guest arrived. The Old Madam has asked you to come over.”

Nell jumped and quickly pushed Gideon away.

Turning around, she saw the servant with his head down as if he did not catch them being intimate. Only the slight curve of his lips withholding a smile betrayed his expression.

Nell’s face immediately went red again.

Nonchalant, Gideon waved his hand. “Alright. We’ll be right down.”

“Understood.”

After the servant had retreated, Nell sat up and complained, “It’s all your fault. It’s not nice to let people see.”

The man looked as usual as he straightened his clothes and smiled. “Why are you worried about things like that while at home?”

Nell did not want to dwell on this topic with him. “Fine. Grandmother has called us. Let’s go.”

The Leith family did not have many people. The direct line of descent only had Gideon in the younger generation, and since Gideon’s parents had passed away early, the family became even more desolate.

The Old Madam and the Old Master were both old, and the Old Master especially was in poor health. Gideon did not like to socialize and was usually busy with work all year round, so he spent very little time in the Leith residence. Therefore, the Old Madam would politely refuse guests most of the time, hence Gideon and Nell did not know who was visiting today.

With curiosity, Nell followed Gideon to the front hall.

The front hall was in a rare bustle today. A middle-aged man and an old lady with white hair were sitting on the luxurious sofa with their backs facing her.

The old lady’s hand was held affectionately by Old Madam Quinton. As they spoke, Old Madam Quinton’s face was full of emotion.

Several maids stood by, serving tea and waiting for orders. The Old Madam did not usually like this kind of behavior, but to hold such a grand reception today, it showed the weight of the guest in her heart.

Gideon pulled Nell along and walked over.

“Grandma.”

“Gideon and Nelly, you’re here?”

Old Madam Quinton greeted them with a smile and told them to sit down.

“Come here, let me introduce you. This is Grandma Griffin, whom I’ve mentioned many times before, and this is Uncle Charles Griffin. Grandpa Griffin is playing chess with your grandfather in the tea room!”

She pulled Gideon and Nell in to introduce them to Old Madam Griffin.

“This is my grandson, Gideon Leith, and this is my granddaughter-in-law, Nell Jennings.”

Old Madam Griffin and Nell stared at each other with wide eyes.

“Old Madam, it’s you?”

“Little missy, it’s you?”

Beside them, everyone was slightly dumbfounded at their actions.

Did they know each other before?

Nell finally reacted and she was caught between laughter and tears.

Gideon also came back to his senses and realized that the funny old lady Nell had told him about last night was most likely Old Madam Griffin.

This left Old Madam Quinton in the dark. She quickly asked upon seeing them laughing.

“What’s going on here? Nelly, have you met Grandma Griffin before?”

Nell nodded and told her what happened last night.

Old Madam Quinton could not help but laugh after listening to the story.

The two old ladies were best friends when they were young. A few decades ago, the Griffin family was considered a first-rate wealthy family in China, but Old Master Griffin had taken a fancy to the market overseas and moved his family abroad, so their reputation in China decreased.

However, that did not affect the relationship between the two ladies. Although they did not spend much time together over the years, every time Old Madam Quinton went to Country F, she would always get together with Old Madam Griffin.

This time was the first time the Griffin family returned to China after more than twenty years abroad.

Rumor had it that it was because of the Griffin family’s youngest grandson. Back then, Charles Griffin and his wife had divorced because of the breakdown of their relationship. Unexpectedly, his wife already had a child in her belly during the divorce, yet the Griffin family did not know at that time and had only found out after the divorce happened.

However, she had already left and the marriage was over. Although the Griffin family searched unceasingly for her, the other party continued to avoid them.

Later, under her deliberate avoidance, the two sides gradually lost contact.

Though more than half a year ago, Charles’s ex-wife grew terminally ill. On her deathbed, she told her child the truth and informed the people of the Griffin family too.

This time, the Griffin family came back to China to familiarize themselves with the environment where the child lived and grew up with plans to cultivate a good relationship with him.

Old Madam Quinton grew extremely emotional after hearing this.

“You guys are actually quite lucky. You managed to find the child and he’s even willing to acknowledge you. We haven’t gotten back the child at the Garrett family yet. I went to see Old Man Garrett yesterday and I really couldn’t bear to see him like that.”
