Chapter 273
Spoiled by the President
Old Madam Griffin frowned at the words.
âDidnât they give up searching back then? Why are they searching again now?â
Old Madam Quinton waved her hand.
âForget it. I think Old Garrett doesnât have much time left and just donât want to leave while having regrets.â
The heavy topic made everyone silent for a moment.
In the end, it was Nell who broke the atmosphere.
âIt seems like dinner is about to be served. Grandma, Iâll go check with the kitchen.â
Old Madam Quinton nodded.
At lunchtime, the Garrett family had heard that Old Master Griffin and his wife had returned, and had brought people over as well.
It was naturally inconvenient for Old Master Garrett to come over since he was in poor health, so Joseph Garrett simply brought over a few juniors to give their greetings. As the only girl from the younger generation, Stephanie Garrett naturally came as well.
Besides them, Jean Leith, who rarely returned to the Leith residence, too came back.
The moment she entered, she loudly pulled Stephanie Garrett and Old Madam Griffin over to chat.
Old Madam Quinton only gave birth to a pair of children. However, because her son had died young, she had to take part in her own childâs funeral.
She should have been kinder to her only daughter, but she did not really like her daughterâs character, so she was not too enthusiastic about her.
Naturally, everyone stayed for lunch.
The food was prepared lavishly with all kinds of dishes, and Jean served everyone on behalf of the Old Madam.
When choosing seats, no one knew whether it was intentional or not, but she pulled Stephanie Garrett to sit beside Gideon.
âDeon, you havenât been back to the capital for a long time. All of us, including Stephanie, miss you. Youâve been so busy with work, but since you guys are old friends, it has been so long since you both have sat down together to catch up with each other. Today, Iâll give you the chance to have a good chat. Nelly, you wouldnât mind, right?â
She looked provocatively at Nell while saying that.
Everyone else at the table was dying of embarrassment.
Nell was about to speak when the Old Madam said unhappily, âJean, what are you arranging blindly there? If Stephanie sits there, then where will Nelly sit?â
Jean gave a fake and smarmy smile.
âNelly can sit next to me. It just so happens that I havenât talked to Nelly in a long time.â
âNonsense!â
The Old Madam looked like she was about to get angry. Taking into account that there were other members from the Garrett family present and that the Garretts and the Leiths were longtime friends, it would not be good to break their harmony apart over such a small matter.
Nell smiled. âGrandma, itâs okay. I heard that Miss Garrett and Deon are high school classmates, so itâll be nice for them to sit together and catch up.
Isnât there still a seat here? Iâll just sit here.â
Then, she sat on Gideonâs left.
At this, the Old Madamâs anger subsided slightly.
Mrs. Garrett felt awkward but ultimately did not stop her. Instead, she just laughed in embarrassment.
âOld Madam, look. This child is too ignorant.â
Old Madam Quinton did not say anything. All she could do was give a polite smile.
âItâs fine. Theyâre classmates. Itâs only right to have a good relationship.â
With that, the matter was put to rest and the feast began.
During the meal, under Jeanâs signal, Stephanie kept trying to engage in conversation with Gideon despite feeling shy.
Although Gideon had always been somewhat indifferent, he could not stand Stephanieâs clinginess.
When he dropped a topic, she would bring up another one.
Along the way, Jean and Mrs. Garrett also stepped in to assist.
Nevermind Gideon, even bystanders understood what was going on.
Old Madam Quinton was frowning so hard but Old Man Leith did not notice anything. After all, he was a grown man and had never paid much attention to these little matters. However, he did feel that the atmosphere between the several younglings today were a bit strange but did not think much about it.
As for Old Madam Griffin, she grew slightly indignant in her heart.
âThis little Leith boy, why is he like this?
âHe has such a beautiful wife by his side yet he doesnât dote on her and instead womanizes with another outside.
âAs for the Garretts, where did their discipline go?
âThey come to someone elseâs home for a meal but dare to act so intimately with the master of the house in front of his wife. Do they have any upbringing at all?
âSigh, itâs all my fault for being late in finding my grandson.
âIf I had been quicker, it might have been possible to catch Nell earlier. That way, Nell wouldnât have to suffer like this now.â
Old Madam Griffin comforted Nell in distress.
âHere, Nelly, eat this. Not only is this fish delicious, but it also beautifies and nourishes you.â
Nell quickly accepted with a smile. âGrandma Griffin is too courteous. I should be the one helping you, but thank you.â
âDonât mention it. Iâve been best friends with Old Quinton for decades and have long regarded this place as my own home. Iâll be happy as long as you donât take offense.â
âOf course I wonât.â
After the polite exchange, Nell looked over again and saw Stephanie saying something to Gideon.
The two sat closely together, and Stephanieâs upper body was almost tilted towards him.
Spoiled by the President Her v-neck sweater revealed her faintly discernable and delicate collarbones. If an outsider looked over, they would feel that the pair were a perfect match.
As if noticing Nellâs gaze, Stephanie smiled at her. âMs. Jennings, I heard that you like to eat sea squirt. You should eat more tonight.â
Then, she took a sea squirt from the plate and placed it in Nellâs plate.
Nell raised her eyebrows with an unchanging expression.
She did not know where Stephanie had heard that she liked to eat sea squirts, because she was allergic to seafood and never ate them.
Just as she was about to refuse, Jean who sat opposite her smiled. âGo on, eat! I heard that you grew up in Jincheng? Although that place isnât far from the sea, itâs still considered inland and you donât get to eat such great sea squirt. You have to try some today.â
âThatâs right, these were brought over by Stephanie! Try it out! If you like it, then you can ask Stephanie to get some for you every now and then in the future. She has plenty of ways of procuring it.â
The corners of Nellâs mouth tugged lightly. She suddenly did not want to say the words of refusal.
Her beautiful eyes glanced over and she said gently, âOkay.â
Then, she put the plate with the sea squirt aside and said, âThank you, Miss Garrett. Iâll eat it after it has cooled.â
Stephanie did not say anything else. She simply turned to continue her chat with Gideon.
Although it was a âchatâ, she was the one carrying the conversation as Gideon did not respond to her besides an occasional hum.
âBy the way, did you know that my brother also came back today?â
This time, Gideon finally reacted and looked at her. âI know.â
âHe should have contacted you, right? Thatâs right. Since you two are so close, heâd have definitely told you when he came back.â
Stephanie thought about it and said, âHeâs going to Dijin with Simon Wilburn tonight. He called before I came here and told me to go over later. Why donât we go together?â
