Chapter 285
Spoiled by the President
Nancy widened her eyes in surprise.
âYou can tell?â
Nell hummed in acknowledgment.
âThen why did you let her join you? Arenât you jumping right into the trap that sheâs setting you up for?â
Nell grinned.
âIs it a trap, though? She needs a job and sees no way out of it. It just so happens I need a capable assistant that Iâm familiar with. Isnât it a win-win situation and itâll kill two birds with one stone if she comes over? What kind of trap is this?â
Nancy remained silent.
After a while, she threw Nell a bitter look.
âAlright then. If you feel sheâs worth the trust, weâll give her one more chance. Donât you worry though, I will keep an eye on her and wonât allow any possibility for her to act up.â
Nell wanted to laugh at Nancyâs overly wary face.
Nancy was the classic all brawn and no brain type of person.
She could never trust someone who had once committed betrayal.
However, little did she know, there were many situations in life where one would be left without an alternative.
With her hand on her heart, Nell would make the same choice as Kylie between a sick mother and an unrelated stranger if she were in the latterâs shoes.
Refusing to dwell on the topic further, Nell got out of the car and headed straight to Fengqiao Villa.
By the time she was home, it was 9:00 p.m.
Gideon had transferred Aunt Joyce back here from Jincheng and she was now living in Fengqiao Villa, assisting Nell in housekeeping.
Meanwhile, Lizzy was residing in the Leith Residence due to her poor health as well as her need to get to school and see a doctor every now and then. Both Nell and Gideon were occupied with work so they were unable to keep her company all the time.
As long as Nell or Gideon had the time during the weekend, they would bring Lizzy over to play together.
Nell and Nancy got down the car and were near the entrance when their keen senses picked up on the intensity in the air.
The villa was brightly lit and a group of maids in the same splash of color stood in the living room. Standing in the forefront, Aunt Joyce caught a glimpse of Nell and Nancy approaching by the corner of her eye, and she immediately tipped Nell the wink.
Taking the cue, Nell raised a brow.
She took a few steps inside and was welcomed by a womanâs harsh and cold tone.
âThis is the capital, not a rural village like Jincheng. You should know who youâre working for. We Leiths have our own set of rules. Donât let the rural commoner run the place with her down-at-heel antics.â
Right in the middle of the sofa, Jean sat cross-legged while swirling a teacup leisurely in her hand as she berated.
Hearing her words, Nancy could immediately tell who was the receiving end of the criticism. Her face darkened as she was about to lose her temper.
Nell was quick to stop her. Erecting a finger to her lips, Nell motioned for Nancy to stay quiet.
With that, Nancy stuck it out and took a step back.
Unaware that Nell was back, Jean took a sip of tea and continued. âThe Leith family are rich and powerful aristocrats dated back a century ago. The house, including things like these glasses, coffee tables, and decors, reflects on the familyâs dignity. Of course, only the best will suffice.
âTake a look, what are you people displaying? Donât give me phrases like âthe missus likes it that wayâ or âitâs the missusâ tasteâ.
âYour missus came from a small place and doesnât know whatâs good for her but all of you are different. Youâve been working for influential families in the capital from the start.
âPrior to taking up employment with the Leiths, you must have had a lot of experience working with other families. You should know what things look great and what things donât.
âEven if you have never done it before, itâs not like you donât have firsthand experience. Whatâs more, Fengqiao Villa was designed by an internationally renowned architect. Every single plant and flower was laid out through meticulous planning.
âLook what the place has become. It doesnât look like it comes from the hands of a noble missus. It looks like a shabby hole in the outskirts.
âI donât blame you people. I know, you canât stop her but Iâm here now. You should move these things to their original places, just as they were.â
With that, she was ready to order the maid to rearrange the house.
Nell smirked.
Unable to bear it anymore, she took strides ahead and yelled, âStop!â
Startled, the people turned around and finally noticed Nell who might have been back for some time.
Nell nodded as each and everyone one of them greeted her. Without looking at them, she fixed her gaze on Jean who was sitting on the sofa.
Jean, too, took quite the jump by the sound of Nellâs voice. However, she quickly regained her composure.
She was Gideonâs aunt and she had put in a lot of sweat, if not effort, in bringing Gideon up.
Blatantly putting it, she was basically half a mother to Gideon.
Prior to Nellâs arrival to the capital, she was free to come and go, and do as she pleased within the boundary of Fengqiao Villa.
Though it was not like this perk was retracted.
Jean took a seat once again at that thought.
She threw a faint glance at Nell.
Nell came forth and politely addressed Jean, âAunt.â
Letting out a soft snort, Jean answered in a passive-aggressive manner, âYouâre back? So you must have heard what I told them just now, right?â
Nell nodded. âYes, I did.â
âDonât blame me for getting into your business. I raised Gideon since he was a baby. Heâs like a son to me.
âI know he likes you and spoils you. Itâs a good fortune on your part and it is out of my hands even if it bothers me.
âNow that youâre part of our Leith family, there are a few things I need to let you in on.

âItâs best to start early on learning how to become a woman worthy of your status before you become a laughing stock.â
Nell scoffed coldly.
âI wonder, what have I done to become a laughing stock? If you know, perhaps you could enlighten me?â
Frowning, Jean snorted coldly. âYou donât even realize what you have done? Shame on you for asking. Take a look at yourself.â
She then pointed at the display unit by the living room.
âIf my memory serves me right, there should be a few expensive antique vases in there. Why are these on display instead? Donât you know just how much money was spent to design and decorate Fengqiao Villa?
âEvery inch of the place was meticulously furnished. Did you ask for Gideonâs opinion before you moved anything? Did you even ask for my opinion?â
Nell sneered.
âAunt, I really canât put my head around this. This is Gideon and my house. I only changed a few furnishings, why do I need your opinion?â
âYou!â
Jean blew a fuse.
âWell, I gifted those antique vases to Gideon. Furthermore, Iâm Gideonâs aunt...â
âI know.â
