Chapter 295
Spoiled by the President
Gideon had expected that Jean would give in.
He made an appointment with her to visit the Leith Residence at night.
Nell would head there first to comfort the Old Madam and give Gideon and Nell some time to brace themselves.
That night, the three of them arrived at the Leith Residence.
When the Old Madam got wind of this issue, she was naturally pissed.
Before Jean came over, she threw a huge fit and smashed a few teacups.
Nell consoled her, âLuckily, Auntie told us all about this matter, so it isnât too late to salvage the situation. Donât be angry, Grandma. Ultimately, this issue occurred out of spite. We mustnât act impulsively and make matters worse. Itâs crucial to take a step back and analyze the situation.â
The Old Madam sighed.
âI understand, donât worry. I have emotional outbursts too, and itâs not like I can do anything about her. I promise I wonât scold her once she arrives.â
It was just a verbal promise. When Jean arrived, the Old Madam could not stop herself from berating her.
Jean knew she was in the wrong and kept quiet while the Old Madam raged on.
Once she was done, the Old Madam felt a little bit better and began to listen to Jeanâs side of the story.
Simply put, it was a simple matter.
Any sane person could see that Jean had been set up and swindled.
Unfortunately, she was oblivious to this fact and did not leave any evidence. Moreover, she purchased each raw stone on her own.
Unless desperate measures were utilized, it was difficult to prove that that man had been cheating her.
The Leith family had a lot of tactics up their sleeves, but it was a desperate time now. Besides, they could get themselves a lot of unwanted attention if they did anything drastic.
If Steven Palmer could achieve success by organizing stone-betting events in the capital city, it meant that he had someone powerful backing him up.
Based on Matthewâs findings, Steven had ties to the Graham family, so his backbone could most likely be the Grahams.
No one dared to act hastily when both the Leith and Graham families were involved.
Gideon thought and suggested, âI can send someone to settle this issue but youâd better not make your presence known in the capital, Auntie, in case things get complicated.â
Jean was opposed to this.
âDeon, are you trying to get rid of me? Iâm not going anywhere. I want to stay in the capital!â
The Old Madam yelled, âStop whining! Weâre trying to clean up your mess here! Do you think anyone is willing to take care of this issue for you?â
Jean lowered her head when she got yelled at.
After that, she whimpered. âAlright, Iâll head to Country F.â
âNo!â
The Old Madam roared and glared at her.
âDonât even think about it! Tomorrow, book a flight to Country M and go to your Aunt Starks. Iâll send someone to watch over you and donât you dare get around! As long as this issue isnât settled, you arenât allowed to go anywhere else.â
Jean shouted angrily.
âMom, Iâm already in my thirties and no longer a three-year-old. Are you going to treat me like a child?â
The Old Madam scoffed.
âJudging by your IQ, youâre no different from a three-year-old.â
Jean was speechless.
Since the Old Madam had made a decision, no one opposed her.
In the end, the family meeting ended on the Old Madamâs call.
Gideon and Nell wanted to return to Fengqiao Villa.
The Old Madam was worried that Jean would stir up trouble again, so she forbade her from leaving and made her stay at the Leith Residence.
Tomorrow morning, she would board the plane and leave.
As the couple went out, Jean called Nell.
She looked at Gideon and smiled. âDeon, I have a few words to say to Nelly. Could you leave us alone for a moment?â
Gideon frowned and glanced at Nell.
Nell assured him by nodding.
âWait for me in the car! Iâll join you soon.â
Gideon nodded and left.
After he was gone, Jeanâs wide grin vanished immediately.
âNell, are you happy now? Feel smug? As soon as you get me out of the capital, no one will spy on you and control you anymore. You can twist Deon around your little finger and make him obey your every command.â
A slight crease appeared between Nellâs brows, but it relaxed again.
She regarded Jean in a wan yet sarcastic manner.
âDid you call me just to tell me this, Auntie?â
Jean straightened her back.
âWhy? Arenât I allowed to say so? Donât you think that I donât know your dirty tricks? You act like you want to help me, but in fact, you want to humiliate me!
âVery well, your wish has come true. My reputation in the Leith family has gone down the drain. The Old Master and the Old Madam are sorely disappointed in me and wonât listen to me ever again. Iâm sure youâre happy now!â
Nell shook her head.
âIâve never harbored such thoughts.â
âHa, who are you lying to? Simply put, you donât like the fact that I donât approve of your relationship with Deon. Iâve always thought that Deon and Stephanie would make a better couple. I bet you feel uncomfortable, donât you?
âAnd did you know that Deon and Stephanie used to be lovers? They grew up together and knew each other since they were children, so they had a really close bond. Look at you, butting in between them. Whatâs the meaning of it?â
Nell took in a deep breath.
She felt rather annoyed.
It was fine if you were told about something for the first time.
However, when you were repeatedly told about the same issue, it was irritating and you would lack the patience to listen to it again.
She eyed Jean and lowered her voice, âSince you say so, Auntie, let me ask you something. If they had such a close bond, why did Deon marry me instead of her?â
Jean was caught off guard.
Nell sniggered.
âAuntie, I donât understand why you dislike me so much. Iâm perfectly aware that Iâve never shown you any animosity. When I was impolite toward you, it was because you started it first.
âI know you treat Gideon well. When his parents were gone, you cared for him all these years. Iâve never doubted your relationship, but you should understand that, in the future, Iâm the one who will accompany him in his old age and not you.
âNo matter how close family members are to each other, theyâll become estranged over time as a result of disappointments and arguments. I donât want you to feel remorse when you have completely strained the bond between you and Gideon.
âTherefore, heed my advice, Auntie. If you want to have a better life ahead, stop what youâre doing and watch your actions! After all, Gideon will be the leader of the Leith family and as his wife, Iâll be the true mistress of the Leiths.â
When she finished speaking, she noticed the rage and resentment on Jeanâs face. She was so enraged that she was about to faint. Thus, Nell waved a hand to summon a maid.
âAuntie isnât feeling well. Please send her to her room.â
