Celine bit her lip and shook her head firmly.

“No, it was all my fault. If I hadn’t met the wrong people and had known about Dad’s and Grandma’s matters earlier, the outcome would have been different. Although I’ve returned to the Garrett family, I know full well that anyone thinks my past is an unerasable stain.

“I have embarrassed you, Grandpa. So why should I bring trouble to someone else? It’s fair enough if Young Master Graham does mind, but he doesn’t and he’s so kind-hearted. As Celine spoke, she covered her face and sobbed.

Old Master Garrett was so furious that his expression hardened and the entire atmosphere in the room tensed up.

After a while, he roared, “Rubbish! Who’s the murderer’s daughter? You were adopted by them! Your real mother is the daughter of the Jackman family and is completely unrelated to the Jennings family! What do the evils of the Jennings family have to do with you?”

Halfway through his words, Old Master Garrett coughed violently as he was too emotional.

At once, Celine comforted him by handing him water and patting his back. After a while, the Old Master recovered.

When Jim stepped out, he saw Harriet holding Joseph by his arm and they were walking towards him.

Noticing how peeved he seemed, Harriet greeted him cheerily, “Elder Brother, it’s so late! Haven’t you retired to bed?”

Jim scoffed, “I’m not the only one who isn’t asleep yet, am I? I see that the two of you are in good health. It’s already 2:00 am, yet you’re here strolling about like you’re not afraid of the cold.”

Joseph smiled calmly. “We’re worried about Dad, so we wanted to sleep a bit later.”

Jim jeered, “Fine, don’t you think I don’t know what you’re up to? You’re just worried that you won’t get any inheritance or get a lesser share if Dad dies suddenly. Stop fooling me. I know what you are thinking.”

Joseph immediately looked upset.

“Elder Brother, I can’t help it if you think of us this way, but you shouldn’t judge the benevolence of others based on your own narrow-minded perspective. You might have your eye on Dad’s inheritance, but that doesn’t mean others think the same way as you.”

Jim gritted his teeth. “Enough! You, a benevolent man? Why would you find a low-life to manipulate Dad? If you’re benevolent, you wouldn’t have let her dupe Dad for 15% worth of shares! Let me tell you, these shares belong to the Garretts. Everyone in our family deserves part of it, so don’t pocket everything on your own! Else, I won’t stand for it, come hell or high water!”

Joseph frowned.

“Elder Brother, the shares were given to Celine by Dad and it has nothing to do with us.”

“Ha!” Jim reacted as if he had heard a big joke. “Celine Jennings? Her? Who is she? Dad listened to you and now he thinks that she’s Juli’s child, that’s why he gave it to her. Once he knows that she isn’t Juli’s child, who do you think will get the shares?”

Joseph’s expression sank.

“Elder Brother, stop it with the nonsense!”

“Am I talking nonsense, or do you feel guilty?! I knew about this all along. I just kept it a secret so that Dad feels happy, but you’re a fool to assume I’m clueless! I’ll tell you this, nobody is going to stop you from doing whatever you want, but I won’t let you have all of the shares. If you don’t believe me, we shall see who wins in the end!”

Then, he stormed off.

With a crease between her brows, Harriet held Joseph’s arm and said softly, “Joseph, will Elder Brother reveal Celine’s identity to Dad?”

Joseph shook his head.

“No, Dad hasn’t announced his will. Revealing her identity at this time won’t do him any good. Assuming he does want to start a fight, he’ll wait until Dad announces the details of the will.”

Harriet let out a sigh of relief.

“We did all of this just so Dad can hang on for a little longer. Didn’t you notice that ever since Celine returned, Dad is healthier and more energetic?

He got sick this time because of the accident.”

Joseph nodded.
