Chapter 393
Spoiled by the President
The uneasiness in the atmosphere was intense.
Nell opened her mouth to say something, but she had no idea what to talk about.
She knew what bothered Gideon, but sometimes, she had no control over meeting Gregory.
Instead of agreeing to a promise that she might break, it would be better if she came clean to him.
Thus, she twitched her lips and said, âGideon, Iâm sorry. I know it bothers you, but I do have my woes. I promise you, once this incident blows over, Iâll tell you everything. Please wait for me, alright?â
Gideon frowned.
He gave her an icy, judgemental look.
After some time, he replied sarcastically.
âAs you wish.â
...
From that day onward, Nell and Gideon gave each other the cold shoulder.
They had been married for a year and a half. Normally, they stuck to each other like glue, but this time around, their fight was so huge that even Aunt Joyce and Lizzy could sense the tension between them.
Aunt Joyce was worried about them. She had witnessed how they got together and was aware of both partiesâ temperament and relationship with each other.
If not for that incident, this fight would not have happened.
Therefore, Aunt Joyce tried to talk some sense into them privately.
Unfortunately, both sides refused to explain what had happened. After all, she was an outsider to this issue and could not offer any advice as a result.
So, Aunt Joyce could only sigh helplessly. She secretly prayed for their reconciliation and wished that their current fight would not lead to a bigger one.
On the other hand, Nell knew that things could not go on this way.
She knew what kind of man he was. In fact, with his capabilities, he could investigate this matter on his own instead of asking her.
However, he did not do so. He respected her and allowed her to make her own decision.
Since he had done his part, Nell could not disappoint him.
After much consideration, Nell decided to tell him the truth.
She was not sure how Gideon would feel after learning about Dragon Regiment and Old K, but no matter how bad the outcome was, it would not be as bad as their current state.
Hence, Nell found an opportunity to come clean to Gideon.
Yet, the manâs reaction was totally unexpected.
He was neither surprised nor shocked. His calm demeanor made Nell question whether he had listened to her carefully.
Still, the man comprehended her.
Joy oozed out of his gaze as he asked, âWhy didnât you tell me earlier?â
Nell hesitated before responding, âI suffered from amnesia and during those months, I didnât know what happened to me, what I experienced, who I met, and what I did.
âWhen I woke up, I had been rescued by Gregory. In those years, he taught me martial arts and racing. He saved my life, so Iâm indebted to him, but thatâs all there is in my relationship with him. Do you believe me, Deon?â
Gideon eyed her and nodded. âI believe you.â
Nell let out a sigh of relief.
Gideon added, âThe Grahams arenât who you think they are. As an illegitimate son, Gregory spent much of his time overseas and must have been through a great deal. He must have his reasons for rebuilding the Dragon Regiment.â
Nell nodded.
âI have no plans of getting involved, but Old K is dead. He said the people who killed Old K might be the same gang who tried to kill me last time. I want to find out, Deon. I want to know what I have gone through during those months. Why do they want to kill me? I donât want to leave this world with this question unanswered. Do you understand?â
Disturbed, Gideon regarded her in consternation.
He said, âNelly, have you ever thought that sometimes, we donât have to know the whole truth. Ignorance has its benefits.â
Nell was stunned.
She looked at him in a puzzled manner.
Gideon heaved a sigh.
He caressed her hair lovingly and whispered, âDonât stress yourself.â
Nell smiled.
âAlright.â
âIf you need my help, just tell me.â
âMm.â
Once she confessed to him, Nell felt so much better.
That afternoon, Nell sent Aunt Joyce and the other maids away so she could have a proper conversation with her husband.
The two of them leaned on the sofa and chatted quietly.
Sometimes, things worked in mysterious ways. The truth that you so badly wanted to hide could gush out like water from a broken dam as soon as you reveal it.
It was as if there was no reason to hide it in the first place.
Following that, Nell told him all about the things that had occurred during the four years she spent overseas.
Gideon listened attentively without interrupting her. He merely acknowledged briefly when required.
Time trickled by slowly and later, Nell mentioned that she was tired. Perhaps it was the relief she felt coupled with her complete trust for her husband, she fell asleep in his arms.
It was a serene moment and life was good.
The woman laid in his arms peacefully. When the man lowered his head, he saw how beautiful and tranquil she looked during her sleep.
However, his gaze darkened.
His memories traveled rapidly to the past and stopped at that fateful night.
For so long, he thought that he had been through so much toil and trauma, and experienced so many distressing and dangerous encounters. He should have been emotionally detached and numb by now, but still, he was consumed by a plethora of indescribable emotions.
His large, rough palm was wrapped around her small, fragile hand, feeling the warmth on her skin. Yet, all he felt for her was pain and sorrow.
âNelly, Iâm sorry!â
She had revealed her past to him. She had told him about the places she had been to and the things she did before he found her.
Unfortunately, he could not come clean to her in the same way about that incident and... The memories he lost during those months.
The manâs gaze was pensive and his eyes were bloodshot.
The reddishness in his eyes intensified when he realized how much she had suffered on her own.
He got his phone and sent a text.
Then, he planted a soft kiss on her forehead and gently carried her into the bedroom.
Nell slept soundly.
When she awoke, it was twilight and the last rays of the setting sun seeped through the window, illuminating the room with a faint, golden glow.
She narrowed her eyes and stretched her body.
Maybe it was because she felt relieved after telling the truth, but she found her slumber to be especially relaxing. Now, she was well-rested and filled with vigor.

Where was Gideon?
Nell rubbed her eyes and got out of bed. When she came to the living room, she realized she was the only person in the entire house.
A gentle breeze swept open the pages of the book she left on the coffee table. The pages fluttered in the wind and it made Nell notice how empty the house was.
