Chapter 394
Spoiled by the President
Was he not at home?
Nell glanced at the time. It was already 5:30 pm and he was definitely not at the company at this hour.
Then where was he?
Honestly, Nell was a bit uneasy after confessing her past to her husband, so she felt somewhat disappointed to find Gideon missing when she woke up.
Still, she was a reasonable person. She thought that he could have had some business to settle and might have gone out at the last minute.
Thus, she shook her head and let out a chuckle.
As Aunt Joyce and the maids were on leave, she decided to make her own dinner.
Nell headed for the kitchen to make a meal.
At the same time, the entrance to the kitchen, which had been closed, was opened.
After that, she saw Gideon standing there with an apron on and a wok spatula in one hand while he brandished a dish of stir-fried eggs and tomatoes on the other hand.
âWoken up? Wash your hands, itâs time for dinner.â
Nell was dumbfounded. âHavenât you left?â
Gideon cast her a strange look. âLeft? Where am I supposed to go?â
Nell stood still and saw how homely he looked in his usual shirt and an apron. Suddenly, her eyes were filled with tears.
She rushed towards him and wrapped her arms tightly around his body.
She buried her face affectionately into his chest and murmured, âI thought you were angry.â
The anxiety and insecurity she felt when she was alone were revealed at once.
The man curved his lips into a subtle smile as he observed his wifeâs unusual adoration for him. He beamed with joy and whispered, âDonât you want to find out how Old K died? Letâs eat first. Iâll take leave for a few days to help you investigate.â
âReally?â Nell lifted her head in surprise.
âMm.â
Gideon wanted to hug and kiss her, but it was inconvenient as he had a wok spatula in one hand and a dish in another.
âWonât that disrupt your work?â Nell knew how busy he was.
âNo, I happen to be quite free recently.â
âOh, alright then!â
âGood girl, go wash your hands now. We can eat once the soup is ready.â
âOkay.â
After Nell washed her friends, she realized that three dishes had been placed on the dining table. They were her favorites, stir-fried eggs and tomatoes, braised fish in soy sauce, and sour and spicy lotus roots.
Gideon was still preparing the soup in the kitchen. Nell approached him curiously and asked, âYou havenât cooked before, have you? Did you make these on your own?â
Gideon nodded and pointed at the recipe book next to him.
âI found this on the bookshelf this afternoon, so I learned to cook. Care for a taste?â
With a nod, Nell headed to the dining table. She picked up a pair of chopsticks and tasted the stir-fried eggs and tomatoes.
She did not expect it to taste like the work of a master chef, but it was perfect for a beginner cook.
Nell exclaimed, âDelicious!â
She ate a piece of the braised fish.
She was even more surprised.
Then, she tasted a lotus root.
Mmmmm...
âGideon, instead of doing business, why donât you be a cook? I think you have a talent for cooking and your food tastes so good!â
The man smiled as he held a bowl of soup. âIs that so?â
âYes, try it if you donât believe me!â
âAlright.â
Nell picked up a piece of lotus root and was about to pass it to his mouth when Gideon ignored her hand and leaned forward to bite the lotus root in her mouth.
She was caught off guard and in a daze. Meanwhile, he had bitten the piece of lotus root and chewed it before he grinned. âHey, not bad.â
Nell blushed.
She glared at him but her true emotions eventually slipped out of her.
Her lips curved into a slight smile and she felt happy.
Noticing her reaction, Gideon knew she had completely opened herself to him, and hence this elevated his mood.
He embraced her and savored the sweet sensation of her lips.
This time, his kiss was particularly tender. It spoke of infinite devotion and longing, as he kissed her lips, nose, eyebrows, eyes, forehead, and finally, the delicate back of her hand.
âNelly, I love you.â
Nellâs heart skipped a beat.
Men were often said to be deep creatures who hardly expressed their feelings. Usually, it was hard for them to express their love verbally, and those who said it out loud were often insincere.
Yet why did she feel so touched now?
Was it because it was Gideon who said he loved her?
No, it was not that.
It was because he was stronger and calmer than any other man she had met. Yet, when faced with her, he could not control his emotions and would do things he usually would not do or say things he tended not to say.
There were no fancy embellishments on the three words he uttered. The way he expressed them was honest and moving.
Nell smiled through her tears. She replied earnestly as she hugged him, âMe too.â
At the end of the meal, she wondered how they had finished them all.
The two of them spent two hours at the dining table, teasing and flirting with each other aside from eating.
After dinner, Nell insisted on washing the dishes.
After all, Gideon could not do all the work. Although he was willing to clean up, she was certain that she should do something in return, so it was fair and square.
Her husband did not stop her, but the look he cast on her was much more loving.
At that moment, Nellâs phone rang.
She could not answer it now, so she called out, âCan you answer that for me?â
Gideon headed to the living room and picked up her phone. He looked at the screen and saw that the call was from Joel.
He twitched his brows in surprise.
When Nell learned it was Joel, she let Gideon answer it and turned on the loudspeaker.
âAnything?â
âItâs you, sis-in-law. Iâm looking for Second Elder Brother, is he around?â
Huh?
Nell was puzzled as she looked at Gideon.
âWhy did you call me if youâre looking for him?â
âHehe, his phone isnât turned on.â

âWhatâs the matter?â
Joel told him everything.
Apparently, the auction held every four years by the Forbidden Consortium would take place the following night at the International Hall. Joel asked Gideon whether he would be attending it.
Auctions organized by the Forbidden Consortium differed from other auctions. The auctioned items were national artifacts and they were eventually returned to the government, while part of the collected proceeds would be donated to the International Red Cross.
The so-called auction was more like a charity sale.
The Forbidden Consortium was known to be an organization shrouded in mystery.
Last time, Nell had come across this name too. She only knew that it was one of the worldâs Three Major Clans in which its influence spread across the globe and its history dated hundreds of years to the past.
She had also heard that this clan had deep-seated origins in China, but she was unsure of the details.
The attendees of this yearâs auction consisted of important figures in the nation. Therefore, not everyone was allowed to attend the event.
