Chapter 400
Spoiled by the President
Nell was completely shocked and embarrassed.
She really could not figure out why Old Master Garrettâs attitude towards her had suddenly changed.
Beside her, Joel was also confused and could not react to what was going on until Old Master Garrett and Joseph left.
He turned to look at Gideon. âSecond Elder Brother, what are they doing? Why do I feel like the Old Masterâs attitude towards little sister-in-law is somewhat strange?â
Nell did not say anything because other than Joel, Nell also felt the same.
The look in Gideonâs eyes deepened.
However, he did not continue the topic and simply said, âAlright, itâs getting late. Letâs go.â
Then, he pulled Nell along to leave.
On the way home, Nell asked curiously, âWhat could Grandpa Garrett and Second Uncle have to tell me?â
Gideon looked at her. âWho knows?â
Nell nodded.
âYouâll know if you go there tomorrow.â
âHuh?â Nell revealed a disappointed expression. âI thought that you already know. If I have to go to the Garrett family to find out, then Iâd rather not know.â
The man smiled at her disappointed face and his gaze grew deeper.
âNelly, can you tell me why you reject the Garrett family so much?â
Nell was stunned. âRejecting the Garrett family? Me?â
âYes.â
The man answered with absolute certainty.
Nell snorted. âItâs probably because our eight characters donât match. Iâve always felt that there was something weird about the Garrett family, but I just canât tell what. In any case, I just donât like them.â
Gideon mused, âIs it because of your impression of Jim Garrett and Celine Jennings?â
Nell frowned and looked at him suspiciously.
âWhy are you always defending them? Is there something youâre not telling me?â
Surprised, the man quickly said, âNo.â
Nell looked at him. âReally?â
Gideon nodded. âCross my heart.â
The truth was that he was not sure about his guess. He could not help but think about that after seeing Old Master Garrett and Joseph Garrettâs attitude.
âTo be honest, Second Uncle Garrett isnât bad. Heâs a good person and I donât dislike him, but as for Old Master Garrett... Hm, Iâve always felt like heâs a crafty man, so Iâll keep my reservations.â
Gideon chuckled. âIf you are able to tell this, then that means Grandpa Garrett hasnât been up to par these decades.â
Nell blushed at his praise.
âAlright, letâs not talk about them anymore. It feels like weâre saying bad things about them behind their backs.â
âHm, okay.â
The two stopped continuing the topic.
The next day, Nell naturally did not go. Although Old Master Garrett was disappointed, there was nothing he could do about it. He was just about to tell her the truth directly but he was stopped by Joseph.
Joseph meant that because of the previous incident, Nell already had certain opinions of the Garrett family. If they were to rashly tell her the truth now, she might not be willing to accept this identity and acknowledge him as her grandfather.
After all, Nellâs character was clear to them after this period of time.
She had clear likes and dislikes, and was not a social climber. Furthermore, she was the Young Madam of the Leith family now, so she might not be interested in the identity of a granddaughter of the Garrett family.
Old Master Garrett was not happy with Josephâs opinion, but the facts told him that what Joseph said might really be true. Nell did not care about climbing into the Garrett family at all.
This was evident from the fact that she had turned down todayâs family dinner.
If this invitation had been extended to any other girl, they would definitely flock here. However, Nell did not care and she even rejected them.
The Old Master had to admit that she really did not like the Garrett family at all.
What should he do?
As the afternoon sun spilled in through the window, the old man gazed out at the greenery, deep in thought.
At this moment, a voice broke his thoughts.
âOld Master, a gentleman surnamed Shelby has asked for an audience.â
Coming back to his senses, Old Master Garrett turned to look at the butler. âWhat did you say? Who wants to see me?â
âMr. Shelby. This is his name card.â
The butler respectfully handed him a silvery-white gold-emblazoned card. The card was simple, with a purple Bauhinia logo and a nameâ Gale Shelby.
The Old Masterâs eyes widened in shock.
âWhere is he?â
âDownstairs, in the living room.â
The Old Masterâs face tensed and his eyes darkened. He said coldly, âTake me down.â
His illness started to act up today and his knees hurt, so he could only sit in his wheelchair.
When the butler wheeled him into the living room, it was obvious that the Old Masterâs body was trembling slightly.
The man in the living room stood up.
Old Master Garrett waved off the butler and other maids, leaving only the two of them in the large living room.
âMr. Shelby, itâs been a long time.â
The old manâs tone was cold.
Gale Shelby looked at him with the same calm and relaxed look on his face. âOld Master Garrett, how have you been these years?â
Old Master Garrett snorted, âStill alive, thanks to you!â
Gale smiled slightly. âIt seems like you still havenât let go of your preconceptions about me.â
Old Master Garrett immediately grew furious. âYou still have the nerve to mention that to me? The one who died wasnât your daughter, so of course, youâll be able to let go that easily! Gale Shelby, Iâm telling you, Iâll never let go of what I think about your Shelby family!â
Having spoken too quickly, the Old Master became so worked up that he fell back into the wheelchair, red-faced and panting.
Gale looked at him and advised, âYour physical condition looks very bad. I suggest that you keep a calm mind.â
The Old Master sneered but said nothing.
However, he was secretly trying to calm his emotions.
Gale suddenly said, âYouâve always blamed us for your daughterâs death, but you seem to have forgotten that I lost my eldest brother too. If you really want to argue about it, Iâm afraid that none of us would win!â
The Old Master bit his cheek and glared at him.
âHe only had himself to blame! He deserved it! My daughter only ended up like that because she was tricked by him!â
Gale seemed to have no intention of arguing with him. After all, it had been more than ten years. The dead could not come back to life, so there was no point in arguing any further.
He said in a deep voice, âNone of us are qualified to judge what happened between them. Iâve come back to China this time to only ask you one thing. Where is that child?â
Old Master Garrettâs face changed.

âThe child that Ms. Garrett gave birth to â my eldest brotherâs daughter. You told me the child was lost more than twenty years ago, and weâve been searching for the past twenty years, but thereâs been no clue. However, I heard some time ago that the granddaughter of the Garrett family was found, so I felt I should come back to take a look at her. Old Master Garrett, please hand her over!â
