Chapter 419
Spoiled by the President
It was a message from Bailey and only contained a single sentence.
The corners of Gideonâs lips curled up in fury and his eyes turned ice-cold.
All this time, Nell had been drifting in and out of consciousness. One moment, she dreamt of Yvette passing the lotus flower to her and giving her an evil smile.
The next moment, she dreamt that a black-clad man was chasing after her as she ran for her life and in the end, she was tackled onto the ground by the man.
The man took out a knife and grinned at her maliciously. âYou know too much, die!â
Nell jolted awake in terror.
Opening her eyes, the first thing Nell saw was the intricate and beautiful ceiling above her head. The next thing she noticed was the gorgeous bedroom she was in.
Only a small orange lamp was lit inside the room. Gideon Leith was sitting against the bed frame, doing something on his laptop computer. When he saw Nell open her eyes, he asked softly, âAre you awake?â
Nell breathed a sigh of relief. She got up and wiped away the cold sweat that had formed on her forehead.
Gideonâs eyes flashed.
He put the laptop computer aside, got out of bed, and poured her a glass of water.
Nell accepted it and drank. The warm water seeped past her throat and into her stomach, banishing away some of the lingering fear inside her.
âI almost got into trouble today,â she said suddenly.
There was a dark glint in Gideonâs eyes. âWhat happened?â
Nell pursed her lips and took another sip of water to wet her throat. Then, she said, âWhen I was changing, I accidentally overheard the man named William Cabot talking to the daughter of the Griffin family, Scarlet Griffin. It sounded as though William Cabot gambled and lost one billion dollars and it was the companyâs money. They were discussing how to solve the problem.â
Nell was very certain that tonightâs event must be related to those two.
Otherwise, why did all this happen right after she had overheard their conversation?
In addition, Yvette was not a good person. The reason Nell felt drowsy was because of the lotus flower and it was given to her by Yvette. Therefore, they must be in cahoots with one another.
Nell was a person who knew her strength and limitations. Under ordinary circumstances, she could handle these kinds of people by herself, but the Griffin family had deep roots across Country F. If she did not tell Gideon Leith about this right now, she might not be able to escape certain death.
âI think itâs because I overheard their conversation, that theyâre trying to silence me.â
She paused and then continued. âThat Yvette isnât a good person either. She gave me a lotus flower. It was after I inhaled the fragrance on the flower that I turned drunk. Prior to that, I didnât drink much.â
Gideon did not say anything except staring at her with his deep, unfathomable eyes.
Nell noticed the look in his eyes and her heart shuddered.
âYou donât believe me?â Her heart sank slightly.
Gideonâs lips quirked indiscernibly. He caressed the top of her soft hair.
âHow can I not believe you when you showed so much trust in me when you were in danger?â
The moment Gideon saw Bailey bring Nell to him, he felt that something was wrong.
Although Nell indeed appeared like she was drunk, it was Baileyâs expression that gave it away.
It was not until he got into the car and saw the message from Bailey, that Gideon was sure that it was a deliberate act of malice.
The message from Bailey read, âWalls have ears, witnesses are silenced.â
When Nell saw that Gideon did not doubt her story, she felt relieved. She patted her chest to rid herself of the residual trauma. âI was really scared to death tonight. Fortunately, I bumped into Bailey, otherwise, I might have been killed.â
A hint of coldness flashed across Gideonâs eyes.
âOh yeah, they also mentioned Liam Jackman. Allegedly, if only Liam had not kicked William out, he wouldnât have ended up in this situation. I think I need to warn Janet. Although Iâm not fond of that b*stard Liam, heâs still the father of her children. Itâs better if nothing happens to him.â
As she spoke, she picked up her phone and began to text Janet.
Gideon watched Nellâs stern behavior, then suddenly asked her, âDo you know what kind of person is Yvette?â
Nell blurted out before thinking, âI thought sheâs Old Madam Griffinâs maternal granddaughter?â
It was only after she spoke that Nell paused to think about her answer.
She looked up at Gideon in disbelief.
âOld Madam Griffin only has one daughter, which is Scarlet Griffin. That means, her maternal granddaughter must be Scarletâs daughter. They are mother and daughter, itâs only natural that theyâd work together to protect their secret.â
Nell pursed her lips.
âWhy do I feel like Iâm a trouble-magnet? Wherever I go, I keep overhearing peopleâs secrets.â
Gideon was amused by her question. He patted her head. âEnough, stop thinking too much. Iâll handle this matter. You should rest now. Iâm going out to make a phone call.â
Nell nodded.
She watched Gideon walk toward the balcony but her heart still felt uneasy.
Moreover, Janet had not replied to her WeChat message. Just as Nell was deliberating whether to call her, she received a text message from Joel Foster.
âLittle sister-in-law, can I ask you a question? What do women like to receive as a gift?â
Nell was dumbstruck.
Why would Joel ask for her advice to buy a gift?
This was not right!
After all, Joel Foster was a veteran womanizer, the love expert himself! Why would he need guidance in such matters?
Nell felt surprised but after some thought, she decided to reply him.
âItâs different for each person. Everyone likes different things. However, jewelry, purses, and beautiful clothing are usually liked by most women.â
Joel sent her a grumpy emoji.
âWhat if the person doesnât like all of the above?â
Nell raised an eyebrow.
Her delicate fingers flew across the screen.
âMaybe sheâs just not that into you.â
Joel, â...â
Gideon had just finished his phone call and stepped back into the room when he saw Nell cradling her mobile phone and chatting with someone.
âWho is it?â He walked over.
âJoel Foster.â Nell looked up and waved the phone screen at him. âHe seems to be infatuated with someone and is trying to win her over. I guess that itâs Lucy.â
Gideonâs eyebrow twitched and sat down beside her. Reading the conversation on her phone, he said, âHeâs already sowing his wild oats everywhere, why does he need a girlfriend?â
Nell chuckled. âHe said that heâs tired of being single, he wants to find a stable relationship. Iâve always thought that he treated Lucy Katz differently from all the other women, what if my prediction is coming true?â
âHmph!â Gideon snorted lightly. He glanced at the clock.
It was 11:30 pm.
He considered it. Then suddenly, he snatched Nellâs mobile phone out of her hand, locked her in a tight embrace, and kissed her lips.
Nell felt a flash go off and then saw a picture of them kissing on the screen of her phone.
âSend this to him,â Gideon said.
Nell could feel cold sweat falling off her brows.

âThatâs precisely what I hope to achieve.â
As Gideon spoke, he saw that Nell did not move, so he picked up her phone and sent the picture himself.
