Chapter 441
Spoiled by the President
His face was grim, he said without much of a hint of expression, âItâs only natural for the ones up top to keep his underlings under control this way.â
âIs that so? Then why did he not even tell you about it when he entrusted a major task like assassinating Gideon to Evelyn? You should be more qualified for the task than her!â
Carlâs expression changed a little.
âYou will be simply cast aside after everything in you has been exhausted and youâve served your purpose! Iâm just giving you a fair reminder here while youâre still managing the Tigerâs Den. Say, if one day these secrets are exposed, considering Scarfaceâs ruthless methods and your past scuffles with Evelyn, how do you think it will end for you?â
âEnough!â
Carl suddenly violently slammed the table and shot up, he glared down at her viciously.
âYou are trying to tear us apart from the inside! Do you think that I will be simply misled by you into betraying my master? How very naïve!â
Nell did not speak, she stared at him silently.
Deep down inside she knew, Carlâs was wavering!
If he had calmly listened to her dissection and agreed to discuss the terms of their agreement, then it would be her instead who would have to consider her next steps. Carlâs overly exaggerated reaction had proven her suspicions correct, his confidence was wavering, and he was merely trying to cover it up!
She hit him right where it hurt most!
Nell smiled easily, âYou are looking too much into it, of course Iâm not trying to get you to betray your master. Still, all things considered, you should look out for your family at the very least. It wouldnât hurt to give yourself something to fall back on!â
As she finished, she took out a recording pen and placed it on top of the table.
âNo need to be so eager to refuse, why donât you decide after listening to this.â
There was a faint glare in Carlâs eyes, he still ended up sitting down after a while. He picked up the recording pen and opened it.
A familiar voice came from the recording pen.
It was Evelynâs voice!
In truth, everything she knew about Carl had come from Evelyn when she had someone deliver the message for her last night.
She did not know what compelled Evelyn to tell her all these things, she figured that she probably had her motives for doing so.
At that point, Evelyn had no reason to lie to her, so she decided to take a leap this one time.
This recording pen was also one of the items Evelyn had someone hand to her the night before.
The details within were nothing short of astounding. Even Nell and Gideon were utterly shocked when they had heard it.
As expected, by the time Carl had finished listening to the contents, the term shock could no longer do his expression any justice.
âHow do you feel about this recording?â
Carl was briefly started, he looked at Nell with what was a mixture of countless expressions without saying a word.
Nell smiled. Her dark eyes gleamed with a bewitching glow.
She placed the recording pen on the table and said softly, âGive this to Scarface. Believe me, once Scarface listened to this recording, it will be smooth sailing for you from here on out, you will no longer have to serve others!â
Carlâs lips trembled, his face paled slightly.
After some time, he settled into a solemn expression again. He mustered the calmest expression he could at the moment and turned to Nell.
âYouâre giving me a lot here, what do you get out of this?â
When Nell saw that he was so quick to make a decision, a touch of joy gleamed past her eyes.
She answered, âI want you to introduce me to Scar, tell him I want to meet him.â
Carl raised an eyebrow, âWho in the world are you? What are you trying to achieve with all this?â
âNow thatâs none of your business!â
Nell took a pen from the table, wrote down her name on a slip of paper, and handed it to him.
âCall me if thereâs anything at all.â
She got up and left after that.
--
When Nell walked out of the Tigerâs Den, she took a glance at her wristwatch. It was four-thirty in the evening.
She heaved a sigh of relief.
Fortunately, things went well.
Matthew drove over, the two of them got into the car. Together, the three of them returned to the hospital.
When they arrived at the hospital, they saw the old butler of the Griffin family standing outside the patient room.
She was slightly surprised. She raised an eyebrow and walked over.
âMrs. Leith, youâve returned!â
Nell nodded and asked, âMr. John, why are you here?â
Mr. John smiled in response, âI came here to see you on behalf of the old madam. I havenât even had a chance to go in yet before I saw you return.â
Nell curled her brows a little, she glanced at the door shut tightly and took another glance at Mr. John. She knew better than to call him out.
She smiled gently, âIn that case, come right in.â
As she spoke, she pushed open the door.
However, Mr. John quickly shook his hands.
âOh no, no. The reason I came was to deliver a message from the old madam.â
âWhat message?â
âToday is Young Master Aidenâs birthday. The old madam hopes that everyone would make an appearance.â
Aiden Griffin, he is Justin Griffinâs youngest son. He was no more than eight years old, as the youngest child, he was the darling of the Griffin family.
His birthday was today?
Nell considered it for a moment and nodded.
âAlright, I got it! Iâll get changed in my room and head over.â
Mr. John nodded in response and continued, âPlease do invite Mr. Leith to go with you.â
Nell nodded and did not provide any further response. She had Matthew escort Mr. John before going in.
Inside the patient room, Gideon waved at her when he saw her returning.
Nell went over and told him everything that had happened today and how it was concluded. Gideon silently let her finish before holding her hand and raised a question, âYou met Mr. John outside just now?â
Nell paused for a moment, she suddenly remembered.
She nodded. âHm, right. Heâs probably been standing outside for the better part of the day, why did you not let him in?â
Gideon answered dully, âHe did not knock, probably feels guilty. Who am I to intrude on that?â
Nell, â...â
She chuckled. âYouâre still mad?â
âNo.â
Even though Scarletâs actions had defied his bottom line, William was now dead, so it no longer mattered.
Nell said with a smile, âIf youâre not mad, then do you want to go together tonight?â
Gideon stared at her intently.
He remained that way for a while, he did not turn her down but gently tapped the tip of her nose.
âYouâve never been one to hold a grudge.â
Nell smiled, they did not continue dwelling on this topic.
At 6:00 pm, the two of them got changed and headed over.

And so, the two of them rode to the Griffin family house.
They passed by a toy store on the way there. Nell considered for a moment and decided to go inside to buy a birthday present.
After all, it was a gesture of courtesy!
After twenty minutes, the car arrived at the Griffin family villa.
When Nell entered the house, she saw that everyone had already arrived. The old madam sat on the couch with Aiden on her lap, chatting away happily with everyone else.
The moment she stepped in with Gideon, everyone stopped what they were doing and turned to look at her.
âNelly and Gideon came?â
The old madam was the first to speak, she patted the spot right beside her and smiled, âQuickly now, take a seat. Everyone else is here, youâre the only ones remaining.â
Nell smiled faintly. She headed over and gave Aiden Griffin the present.
âHappy Birthday!â
