Chapter 477
Spoiled by the President
After the ceremony, it was time for the banquet.
Although the ceremony had been relatively simple, the banquet reflected the sincerity of the Leith family.
Since it was not a grandiose wedding, their attention was invested in other aspects.
The banquet dishes were not only exquisite and beautiful but it also tasted delicious. One look at them would reveal that these were not ordinary dishes.
After some inquiries, they found out that Old Madam had specially hired a state banquet chef.
Of course, state banquets were prestigious events by nature. The fact that such a high-ranking chef would agree to cook for a small ceremony like theirs further reflected the immense effort.
Once the wedding celebrations were over, Old Madam escorted all the guests as they left.
Nell and Gideonâs honeymoon suite was none other than Fengqiao Villa.
After all, this place was surrounded by mountains and rivers, with breathtaking scenery all around them. The winding mountainous road outside effectively formed a natural protective circle around the villa, so it was very secure.
Most importantly, it was near the company.
For Nell and Gideon, the wedding ceremony was just a symbolic ritual, so it did not matter where their honeymoon suite was located. All that mattered was that it was convenient for them.
The two of them walked out together. Matthew Starks was already waiting outside with the car, preparing to send them home.
However, just as they crossed the doorway, they bumped into an unexpected person. âNelly, we meet again.â
Nell let go of Gideonâs hand. Looking at Gale Shelby standing before them, the joyous expression on her face evaporated in an instant. âMr. Shelby.â
âI heard that youâre getting married today, so I prepared a special gift. Looks like I arrived late.â
As Gale spoke, he retrieved a gift box from his car.
Nell simply glanced at it and did not betray any expression on her face. âThank you for the thought.â
Her tone was cold, and the situation turned a little tense.
Today was supposed to be a day of celebration, so no one wanted the situation to turn sour.
Gideon glanced at Matthew meaningfully. The latter quickly moved forward to accept the gift.
Seeing that, Gale did not say anything but when he passed the gift to Matthew, he said to Nell, âI know you donât want to see me, but you are still my brotherâs child. At the end of the day, I should be here for your wedding.â
Nell pursed her lips. âI see.â
âOh my, isnât this Mr. Shelby?â
There was a jeer from behind. All of them turned around and saw Old Master Leith walking out with the help of the butler.
Gale Shelby curled his lips. âI havenât seen you in a while, Old Master Leith. It looks like your body is getting better.â
Old Master Leith smiled at him. âItâs all thanks to the Shelby family, for giving me such a wonderful granddaughter-in-law. Of course, Iâm happy. When Iâm happy, even my bones feel well.â
Old Master Leithâs words contained a hint of boastfulness, which caused Nellâs mouth to twitch unwittingly.
âGrandfather, itâs windy outside, you should get in the car quickly!â
âNo hurry, no hurry. Mr. Shelby, since youâre already here, why donât you come to my house for a while? We are old acquaintances anyway! Why donât we take a bite and reminisce about old times?â
Gale smiled and said, âSince Old Master invited me so kindly, it would be disrespectful if I were to turn it down.â
Old Master Leith nodded and glanced at Nell.
His gaze immediately softened.
âNelly, why donât you and Deon also come and eat with us before going back?â
Nell turned to look at Gideon. After he nodded in agreement, she acquiesced.
All of them returned to the old residence.
The group sat in the living room. Naturally, they were served tea by some servants.
âOh yeah! Mr. Shelby came today to give Nelly a wedding gift, right? What did he bring? Come, show it to this old man.â
It was obvious to everyone that Old Master Leith intended to tease Gale Shelby.
Nell felt embarrassed for Galeâs behalf, but everyone else seemed unperturbed. Even Gale, the person who was being mocked, appeared calm.
âI have passed the gift to Nelly. Even if Old Master wants to see it, I canât show it to you now.â
Gale had smoothly passed the ball to Nell.
Old Master Leith turned to look at Nell.
âNelly, what did he gift to you? Show it to grandpa. If itâs inferior, throw it into the dumpster. After all, we donât need his alms.â
Nell was terribly amused by Old Master Leith, so she turned to look at Gideon for help.
Gideon motioned to Matthew who went out immediately.
Before long, Matthew walked back in with a gift box.
The gift box was not very big, just about as tall as half an arm. Matthew placed the box on the table and stepped back respectfully.
Old Master Leith snorted coldly, âNelly, open it!â
Nell had no choice but to walk over and open the box.
Opening the red gift box, she saw an intricate glossy black box inside.
The box was made out of wood, but she did not know what kind of wood it was. The color of the box was also quite strange because it did not look like it was spray painted, but it was a natural color.
Moreover, the wooden box exuded a mesmerizing scent that smelled a little bit like sandalwood, but not really.
Nell could not help but crease her forehead. She was now a little intrigued by the item inside the box.
Gale Shelby, who was watching from the side, smiled.
Her slender fingers untied the knot on top of the box.
Nestled inside the box was a pale white jade plate. Its center had been hollowed out and carved into a combination of dragon and phoenix. The artwork looked lifelike and exquisite.
Nell was dumbstruck. She could not help but stretch out her fingers to touch it. However, as soon as her fingertips touched the jade plate, she sensed a cold wisp passing through her fingertips and spread all over her body.
Nell was so shocked that she stumbled backward.
Gideonâs expression changed as he quickly stepped forward to support her and asked concernedly, âWhatâs the matter?â
Nell shook her head, her expression still enraptured.
After a while, she finally recovered her wits and turned to look at Gale Shelby, who was giving her an unreadable smile.
Galeâs gaze was as bright as a torch, staring at her with a tinge of amusement.
The atmosphere inside the room turned heavy. When Old Master Leith saw that everyone was quiet, he was puzzled.
âWhatâs wrong? Nelly, what did he give to you? Why arenât you speaking?â
Nell pursed her lips and shook herself. She spoke to Old Master Leith, âGrandpa, Mr. Shelbyâs gift is too precious, I cannot accept it.â
Old Master Leith was stunned, while Galeâs eyebrows arched into a frown.
âWhat is so precious that you cannot accept?â
Old Master Leith walked up in curiosity. When he saw the jade plate inside the box, his eyes lit up.
âThis, this... This is...â
The Old Master stepped forward sprightly, astonished beyond words.
Gale hooked his lips. âOld Master, donât get too excited, you might harm your health.â
The tone of his words was definitely taunting.
Nevertheless, at this time, Old Master Leith was no longer paying attention to their verbal sparring. His eyes were glued to the jade plate inside the box.
