Chapter 835
Spoiled by the President
She was nothing more than a pawn to them from the very start.
A pawn used to deal with Gregory Graham, the original Vermilion Bird Organization, and maybe even the entire underground network.
Her eyes turned cold at the thought.
Dan seemed to not notice her inner turmoil and smiled blithely. "My little junior doesnât seem to be very happy to see me. Is there some misunderstanding we have?"
Vickie laughed coldly.
"You know very well if this is a misunderstanding or not!"
Dan raised his eyebrows.
If one were to ignore the distinctly evil atmosphere that was around the man, the gentle and warm face he had would have charmed the pants off a bunch of women.
Vickie was not within his demographic.
Dan let out an empty laugh, saying, "Judging by your tone of voice, little one, you seem to be pinning the blame on me for all the things that happened to you last time. Such unjustified accusations, I knew you had been released from jail so I came to reunite with you! Being met with such slanderous words fill me with much sorrow."
Vickie was livid at how carefree and laid-back he was acting.
She glared at him out of the corner of her narrowed eyes. "Spit it out. What do you want from me?"
Dan grinned. "What if I said I came to see you and catch up for old timeâs sake?"
Vickie blankly stated, "We have nothing to catch up on."
Dan gasped dramatically.
He then paused before showing a hint of a smile. "I can understand how you feel. Poor little Vickie believed that we lied to you and betrayed you. But if you think about it, little one, besides not telling you our true identity, did we hurt you in any other way?"
He paused as his eyes darkened. "We may have used you in the final showdown, but we have no other use for your life after that. A good little pawn knows that they're no longer needed on this earth after their time is up."
Dan's voice was level and even, but Vickie could hear the chill in every word he said.
Her eyes also turned cold, asking, "What. Do. You. Want?"
He smiled at her with hollow eyes.
"Come with me."
Without waiting for her to reply, he continued. "I know that Gregory Graham has someone tailing you. Perhaps the moment I step forward, a bunch of people will jump out to ambush catch me! But oh little one, Iâm sure youâre aware that I have other things up my sleeve since I still came despite knowing of the danger. So come quietly, and I promise I wonât hurt you. How about that?â
Vickie glared at him. Her expression remained unchanged but her mind was a whirlwind.
She knew Dan Thinple very well. Back in the days of the Vermillion Birds, he was the brains and the body of the entire organization.
He was swift and skilled at fighting, had a mind for strategy, and to top it off, he was extremely scheming.
She knew she was no match for him in both brains and brawn.
There was also one other important issue.
The people Gregory had sent to watch over her had been discreetly hovering nearby the entire time. She could sense them when she went to bed last night.
Now, they were gone. She could not sense them.
It was as if they had vanished into thin air.
Her stomach tied into knots. Vickie dared not think about what had happened outside. All she could do was stall for time.
âSo what, the body that was found in the river yesterday, that was your doing as well?â
It was unclear if he noticed what she was trying to do. Dan was in no hurry and he blandly responded, âNope.â
Vickie frowned.
Dan smirked.
âYes, she shouldâve died. But before I could stick my hand into it, someone else already finished the job for me. Well, thatâs fine too. Saved me the hassle and tied up loose ends for me.â
Vickie coldly asked, âWasnât she one of you?â
Dan grinned.
âHmm, I guess so. A young lass from a poor family is so easy to convince. Throw in some sweet talk and she willingly gave her life for me. Sadly, she got kicked out of the house before she could do anything. Tsk, I never shouldâve picked up garbage like her.â
He spoke without a hint of emotion in his voice and Vickie was seething.
She clenched her teeth. âShe died for you! Do you not have a shred of sympathy in you?!â
âSympathy?â
Dan gasped as if he had just heard the most shocking news in the world before a sly grin crept onto his face.
âOh little one, itâs been four years and my, my, how much youâve changed. The once bold, fearless, and ruthless Vickie now sympathizes with people?â
He paused, pursing his lips. His eyes suddenly hardened.
âHow could you still be so naive? People in our line of work have no sympathy!â
Vickie was stunned.
Only when she met Danâs frigid gaze did she realize that this was not the same Dan that she knew back then.
She wheeled herself back a step and shook her head as she proclaimed, âIâll never go with you! Give it up. Itâs like you said. I wasnât alone this time.
So if you want to talk, youâll behave. If not, don't blame me for skipping the formalities.â
Dan remained calm. His face showed no sign of panic.
He just stood there and observed her with great amusement.
Her heart raced.
Spoiled by the President ï¤Chapter 834 A Chess Piece Vickie pressed the button on the armrest of the wheelchair, but it was completely silent outside.
F*ck!
The button was something Gregory had given her as an emergency contact before she left.
It would be more convenient for her to send a signal to him if she was in danger and he could rush over when needed.
She had pressed the button several times.
There was still nothing but radio silence.
What... Happened?
Dan roared with laughter, seeing her face pale.
âOh dear Vickie. Dear, little, Vickie. To think that four years later youâre still so naive. Did you really think that that man would drop everything in his life for you? Even if the Dragon Regiment collapsed today, heâd still come for you?â
It felt like a bombshell had hit Vickie.
He glared at Dan in disbelief.
âWhat. Did. You. Do?â
Dan shook his head nonchalantly.
âAbsolutely nothing. Well, except maybe order some people to cause a little trouble on his turf. Believe me when I say that itâs a teensy weeny bit of trouble. For him, it was probably nothing more than a small loss of some turf and maybe a few men. Most certainly not enough to cripple him.
âBut now, open your eyes. Itâs come to this. He chose to abandon you to save those pawns. Vickie, think about it. Are you still not able to see that this man isnât worth your care?â
As he said this, he stood up and walked over to her, one step at a time.
