Chapter 836

Spoiled by the President

Vickie’s mind was in complete disarray.

She had no idea if it was really as Dan said and Gregory had to leave because there was an issue.

Either that or he was just temporarily tied up and could not rush over right away.

Regardless, she would never play into his hands like that.

The thought passed her mind and she calmed herself.

"Dan, we've known each other for so long but you've never taught me how to play darts have you?"

His eyes narrowed and before he could respond, something whizzed toward him.

It was a dart.

Dan immediately scrambled to run and hide.

As for the darts, they followed him wherever he ran like homing missiles.

At the same time, Vickie took the chance and turned her wheelchair around, heading toward the door.

Dan coldly smiled when he noticed what she was up to. "Running away?"

He had already taken care of the darts and was headed straight for her.

Vickie panicked and lifted a leg to kick him but her leg was caught mid-air and she was pulled up.

In an instant, her body was lifted off the wheelchair and right into Dan's embrace.

With one hand holding onto her legs, one hand supporting her neck, and her forehead on his shoulder, Dan evilly said, "My oh my, this little one is so cruel. Had you kicked me, your poor senior would’ve lost his crown jewels. And you almost did it!"

Vickie scowled with ice in her voice.

"Dan Thinple! LET ME GO!

"Ah~ I already said that I was here to catch you. Why would I let go after I went through so much trouble to get you?"

He glanced outside.

"Oh no. You're still waiting for Gregory Graham, aren't you? Pity that he won't come. I ordered my men to rob his casino. He won't let billions of dollars just vanish in front of him. Quietly come back with me, little one. He won't come and you’ll understand why I did this."

Vickie hesitated and right at this moment, a clear voice rang from outside.

"Who says I won't come?"

The pair froze and turned their heads.

Gregory was standing at the door, his tall stature bathed in sunlight, shining radiantly.

Vickie's face lit up.

"Gregory!"

She thrashed around, struggling to get out of Dan's grasp.

Unfortunately, he had an iron grip on her neck and it was impossible to get free.

Dan's face hardened.

He was simultaneously surprised and disappointed.

He gritted his teeth and said, "Gregory Graham, you really came. Forty billion dollars for a woman. Won't your partners be disappointed in you?”

Gregory's face turned ice cold.

"Worry about yourself for a change! The moment you appeared, news of your betrayal toward the Vermilion Bird Organization could no longer be hidden. Hundreds of people who got involved back then will come and hunt you down. You should’ve known without me telling you. If you know any better, let her go, and I can still let you live.”

Dan roared with laughter.

It was as if he had heard a funny joke and stared at Gregory. "AMAZING! Looks like I underestimated you. I have nothing more to say."

He paused and lowered his head, whispering in her ears, "I'll be back for you, little one, wait for me okay?"

With that, he threw Vickie forward but instead of falling forward, she fell back.

Since her legs were still not stable, she almost got thrown to the ground.

Before she hit the ground, a pair of strong arms caught her.

She lifted her head to see Gregory's stoic face.

The weight that was stuck in her heart finally lifted.

She thought he was going to place her back in the wheelchair but instead, he lifted her in a princess carry and walked out.

Vickie's heart almost leaped out of her chest as she instinctively grabbed onto him.

"Gregory, you..."

He lowered his head to glance at her.

His steady gaze made Vickie's heart skip a beat.

The words that she wanted to say got caught in her throat and she could not say it.

Gregory carried her out.

The outside was surrounded by people and they were all his men. When Gregory reached the door, he looked toward one of his men. The man looked ashamed and lowered his head. "I'm sorry sir, he got away."

Vickie was taken aback.

The most surprising thing was that Gregory did not appear any different than usual. He did not even scold the man.

He just nodded and barked out an order, "Send some men to chase him down. The rest, follow me back."

"Yes, sir!"

The group got in the cars and drove out of town.

In the car.

No one said a word. Vickie sat beside Gregory while Harold drove.

He had not said anything. She turned to look at him, unable to keep silent anymore. “I heard from Dan that he caused trouble for you...”

“Mmnhmn.”

He did not deny that.

Still, concerned that she was going to worry, he lifted his hand and patted her on the head. "It was a small matter. Don't worry."

Vickie paused, pursed her lips, and nodded.

The car continued moving at a steady pace.

Soon, they had left the small town.

Vickie softly spoke, "I never expected him to still be alive... And looking at him now, it's like a world apart from the person I once knew. He came to look for me, saying all those things. The Dan I know would never say those things. So... I've been thinking, they either have been lurking in the Vermilion Birds and putting their plan in place the whole time or they were convinced to turn their backs. What do you think?

She looked up at Gregory.

His gaze also fell on her.

His eyes were muddled and dark, seemingly full of emotions she could not see.

He responded, "What if it was both?”

Vickie froze, her gaze became a bit frantic, "... How so?"

Gregory spoke in a low voice, "I looked into them. These people were all brought in by the same orphanage overseas: Happy Home Orphanage. Of course, this orphanage no longer exists, but we can make some guesses from that alone."

He paused and suddenly twisted the conversation, "If they really were plotting to destroy the Vermilion Birds from the very beginning, what would you do?"

Vickie froze.

Her gaze hardened.

Naturally, the possibility had never occurred to her.

Of course, if they were truly plotting it from the start...

That meant they also planned to come all the way here and approach her. It meant they would use her to accomplish their goal.
