Chapter 44
Back to the Past: Breaking the Love Spell
Kelly started crying. âHe got Into Riverland University.
Everyone in the room was flabbergasted.
Riverland University? Carlisle got into Riverland University? This was unimaginable!
Kellyâs score of 1225 could
Kellyâs score of 1225 could only get her into Tier 2 universities.
Yet, Carlisle was able to get into a Tier 1 university? What was his score then?
Mariaâs face became twisted. âAre you trying to trick us, Kelly?â
Kelly shook her head in tears. âRiverland TV station even came to interview him!â
Upon hearing that, Gerard turned on the color TV in the hall and switched to Riverland TV Stationâs
channel. The scene in which Carlisle was interviewed was shown.
âCarlisleâs college admission party is about to begin. We wonât take up too much of his time. This will be
all for todayâs interview!
âWhen we have time, we will have an exclusive interview with Carlisleâs parents to better understand
the kind of family thatâs able to bring up such an outstanding child!â
Gerard stared at the television blankly. Waves of emotions surged within him, and he couldnât calm
himself down even after a long time.
Maria looked as if she had lost her soul. âThatâs impossible⦠Thereâs no way that Carlisle got into
Riverland University. He must have cheated!â
He scored 1400 even though he handed in his papers within 30 minutes? Who would believe that?
âGerard, Iâve also received Gordonâs invitation. Iâll go over to give him some money to congratulate
him!â
âOh, right. I received his invite, too. Please bring 50 dollars over on my behalf. Weâre a family. Even if
Iâm not going over, I should at least deliver my wishes!â
âIâll head over to have a look too!â
The villagers of Helios Village spoke up one by one.
Riverland University was way more prestigious than the Tier 2 universities that Kelly got into. They had
to forge good connections with Gordonâs family.
Naturally, Gerard wasnât able to hold them back. He simply sat in his seat and smoked his cigarette.
A moment later, the lively hall became much quieter.
However, soon enough, the villagers returned because there werenât enough seats at Sunago
Restaurant.
Even though there were more than ten tables of quests, all the tables were full. The villagers were also
tactful enough to avoid mentioning Carlisleâs family.
Even so, Gerard and his family couldnât bring themselves to smile. They had also lost their appetites.
Xander Zahn was chewing on some ham hock and had its grease all over his mouth. âDad, is Riverland
University that great?â
There was a loud smack. Kelly had landed a slap on Xanderâs face.
âShut upâ¦
Right now, it made her apnoyed to hear those two wordsâRiverland University.
Xander started bawling immediately.
âHey! How could you hit your brother? Maria reprimanded Kelly and glared at her.
In her heart, both Xander and Kelly were precious to her. However, Maria doted on Xander more.
Gerard also glared at Kelly unhappily. âYou were the one who didnât get a good result. Yet, youâre
venting on your brother?â
âIâm doneâ¦â
Kelly slammed her cutleries on the table and ran out the door.
After the party, Gerard didnât meet with Gordon. Instead, he returned to the county with Xander and
Kelly
in tow.
A group of Carlisleâs male schoolmates forced him to drink a fair amount of alcohol. As Carlisleâs close
friend, Sean had helped to drink a lot on his behalf. He got drunk before Carlisle did.
Seanâs father, Rory Woodsen, drove to the front of Sunago Restaurant in an old model of a â96
Santana. When he found Gordon, he took out 500 dollars from his bag. âHow could you do this to me,
Gordon? You didnât even tell me about Carlâs college entrance party!â
Gordon laughed awkwardly. âYouâre a busy man, Mr. Woodsen. I didnât want to get in the way of your
work!
