Chapter 45
Back to the Past: Breaking the Love Spell
Before he had confirmation about whether Carlisle got into any university, Gordon only invited some of
his old friends.
Rory was a wellârespected businessman at Rainville. What would he have thought if he had been
invited even though Carlisle hadnât qualified for university?
âItâs true that Iâm quite busy today. I only managed to get here after turning down a client. Yet, I still
ended up being late! Sean will be having his college admission celebration in two days. Letâs drink
together then!â
Rory opened a pack of Sobranie and handed Gordan a cigarette. That was an 18âdollar cigarette.
Normally, Gordon could only look at it at the shops,
âSure. Thatâs for sure!â He smiled and accepted the cigarette.
After some small talk, Rory took Sean away. Gordon, on the other hand, carried Carlisle on his back
and
headed home.
It was already the next day when Carlisle woke up.
He glanced at his phone and noted that it was already 12:00 pm the next day.
He was about to get out of bed to get a glass of water when he noticed the flashing MSN messenger
notification.
He opened his messenger app and saw that he had notifications from over 20 classmates.
Good heavens. Normally, no one initiated conversations with him. On the contrary, there were so many
of
them at a time like this.
Perhaps this was reality. When he was useless and incapable, no one was willing to interact with him.
He tapped on each notification. Most of the messages were congratulatory ones, so Carlisle thanked
them one by one.
Lastly, he tapped on Sarahâs icon.
âCarlisle, my college entrance party is happening on July 5th. You have to come!â
âOkay. Send me the address!â Carlisle typed and replied.
Sarah had attended his own party, Naturally, he had to reciprocate the gesture. This was basic
manners.
Carlisle attended various classmatesâ college entrance parties for the foreseeable future.
But there was a little hiccup in between.
Sarah was unhappy because, Carlisleâs congratulatory money was too little. Her family was also
pointing their fingers at him. His phone cost more than 4000 dollars, but he only gave her 100 dollars?
Carlisle was speechless. Sarah had given him 50 dollars while he had given her double that amount.
How could they still be unhappy about that?
On July 10th, Carlisle was taking his afternoon nap when he was suddenly woken up by the sound of
Gordonâs and Hildaâs laughter.
He put on his slippers and went to the living room.
Instantly, Hilda walked over to him with the admission letter in her hands. She wiped her tears in
excitement and said, âSon, look at this!â
âItâs just an admission letter. Do you have to react like that?â Carlisle laughed.
âOf course. Of course, I have to. This is our pride!â
âHayley was right next to me when I opened the letter. Her eyes almost popped when she saw it!â Hilda
was smiling ear to ear. She was pleased and proud.
Not too long ago, she had her fair share of criticisms from Hayley over Carlisleâs results.
Now, Carlisleâs results had silenced Hayley. So, Hilda was feeling exceptionally thrilled these two days.
âCome and eat. I will bring you out in the afternoon to get your bank account sorted. I will deposit the
20 thousand dollars that you gave us. You can use it when you head to university!â Gordon prompted.
There was a hint of regret in his voice.
He hadnât saved enough for Carlisle to go to university. In fact, Carlisle had to even use his own hard-
earned money for it.
âKeep that money for yourselves. I can settle my own university expenses.â Carlisle picked up his glass
to get some water.
âBut you donât have money to go to university,â Gordon commented in surprise.
âI sold some more equipment a few days ago. I have over 10 thousand dollars with me right now!â
Carlisle replied with a perfunctory excuse.
Previously, he sold the Heavenly Sword for 80 thousand dollars. He gave Sean and his parents 20
thousand dollars, respectively. His phone cost 12 thousand dollars. Recently, he spent almost a
thousand dollars on food and online expenses. Thus, he still had approximately 27 thousand with him.
âThat is money that you earned. I need to return the 20 thousand dollars to you! You wonât be so lucky
all the time. Four years of university is going to cost quite a bit! Try not to play games that much. You
might become addicted to them!â Gordon said.
His tone became increasingly stem. He was worried that Carlisle would be too engrossed in his games
and neglect his university studies
âThatâs enough. Carl is a college student now. Do you think that he knows less than you do?â
Hilda glared at Gordon angrily
Gordon took out a cigarette. He was about to light it when Carlisle snatched it away from him. He
laughed and asked, âHave you forgotten about our bet, Dad?â
