Chapter 26
Winning Her Heart Back
Chapter 26 William Cares About Emelle
The three women sat in the backseat while William ant in the front passenger seat.
Emelie had no choice but to cancel her taxi booking.
They had reluctantly accepted Daphneâs offer to drop them off, yet they couldnât shake off the discomfort during the car ride.
Daphne had intended to flaunt her status to Emelie, assuming she would never agree to join their ride.
But who knew Daphneâs plan would fail?
Daphne couldnât shake the satisfaction of knowing that Emelle only ended up in their car because she
had asked William to offer them a ride.
As the car drove on, Daphne snuck a peek at the rearview mirror when she recalled William and Emelieâs relationship. She heaved a small sigh of relief when she saw William wasnât looking back. Instead, he had
his eyes closed, intending to shut everyone out
Mona was the first to break the silence in the car. She hated William, but the hatred she had for Daphne was a different level altogether. To Mona, Daphne was the mistress who interfered in Emelie and
Williamâs relationship. So Mona was adamant about showing Daphne who was boss.
When Mona noticed the crochet charm hanging from the rearview mirror, she said, âThat charm looks familiar, Emelie. Was it the one you made yourself?â
Emelie had indeed made the charm, but she wasnât going to admit it. âI bought it.â
Mona immediately exposed her friend. âYou made it yourself! I remember you looking through tutorial videos and learning how to make it. Here I was, wondering where youâd hung it upon completion. It turns
out to be in this car.â
Williamâs brows furrowed. He opened his eyes and glanced at the charm.
Mona wasnât finished. She patted her seat and said, âI recall that you were the one who bought these seat covers, too. You even asked for my opinion on the colors.â
Daphne was looking a little tense.
Cars could be said to be oneâs second home, so since Emelle had decorated everything in the interior of
Williamâs car, it was equivalent to decorating his âhomeâ. Daphne found the existence of such intimacy.
hard to swallow.
Mona felt loads better after seeing Daphne uncomfortable.
Emelie naturally knew what Móna was thinking. She shot Mona an exasperated glance but said nothing. There wasnât much to say. Cold sweat was breaking out all over her body even though cold air blasted through the carâs AC vents.
Emelieâs leg injury wasnât hurting as much anymore. But right now, it was, and it was likely due to her fast- paced movements throughout the club earlier. Her stomach felt terrible, too. Emelie felt discomfort all
over.
Just then, Daphne noticed that the car was bending for her neighborhood. Daphne immediately said, âWhy donât we drop Emelle home first, Mr. Middleton?â
Daphine feared that if she were the first to exit the car, something might happen between Emelie and William Though this was unlikely, given Monn and the driver were present, Daphne still felt like dropping Emelie cft first would better show that Daphne was the boss here.
The driver turned to look at William just after arriving at Daphneâs neighborhood. William nodded, which made the driver tum and drive back out.
Emelie was marveling at how obedient William was. It was a rare sight. She could feel how uneasy Daphne was, too.
Emelie snickered internally, finding Daphne silly.
But maybe that was just a trait of women in love. As Daphne got to know William better, she realized how accommodating he was to her requests.
Emelieâs brows furrowed as her stomach churned violently. Unable to hold back anymore, she patted on the driverâs seat. âPlease pull over.â
The driver needed Williamâs permission. When William stayed motionless, Emelie shouted, âStop the car! Iâm going to vomit!â
Only then did William speak for the first time throughout this whole car ride. âPull over.â
The driver pulled over to the side of the road. Emelie then ran out of the car and hurled the contents of her stomach out into a nearby trash can. She immediately felt better afterward.
Someone handed her a bottle of water. Emelie thought it was Mona and so reached out to take the bottle. But when she accidentally brushed her hand against that person. It dawned on her that the personâs hand was big and more solid. It wasnât Mona.
Emelie turned around to find William standing there.
Her eyes shifted before she took the water and rinsed out her mouth.
William felt the clamminess of Emelieâs palm when she touched his hand. Under the streetlight, he noticed Emelieâs back was soaked in sweat. Reaching out to grab her arm, he confirmed her clothes were
cold to the touch.
William said, âWhy didnât you say you were feeling unwell?â
Mona and Daphne saw this exchange from where they were in the car. Daphne looked upset. Meanwhile, Mona looked like the cat that ate the canary.
âMr. Middleton cares about Emelie so much!â
