Chapter 43
Winning Her Heart Back
Chapter 43 The Final Week
Emelie went to Willians bedside, saying. Tl stay the right if youâd like me to keep an eye on the IV drip.â William typed some words on his phone and showed them to Emelie, âFeeling quilty?
Whethe: she was doing this out of guilt or fear of retribution, Emelie would treat it as returning the favor. After all, William did stay at the hospital the night she passed out from cramps.
Emelie brought a chair over and sat down. âItâs late. You should get some rest, Mr. Middletonâ
Williamâs throat was burning, and it hurt just to swallow his saliva. How on Earth could he possibly fall asleep?
He typed, âWere you meeting someone from Vertex Capital Holdings earlier tonight?â
Emelieâs heart lurched. Had William spotted her earlier?
William leaned back in the bed.
The hospital was very quiet at this hour of the night. Due to their abrupt arrival at the hospital, William had to spend the night in a ward with several other patients.
All the lights had been switched off save for a dim nightlight. Williamâs face was cast in shadow as he gazed silently at Emelie.
âAre you leaving Capebatt City?â William typed out.
Emelie stayed silent.
Even though William wasnât speaking, Emelie still seemed to be able to hear the cold tone of his voice saying those words out loud. Goosebumps erupted on her skin.
Her eye twitched as she responded, âI was meeting a friend.â
William grinned. He swiftly typed out, âYouâre on leave because of your injured leg, yet youâre able to go to the club, the birthday party, and even meet your friend. What a curious injury you have, Ms. Hoven.â
Emelie looked away silently.
William glanced at her one last time before setting his phone down.
He shut his eyes, wincing now and then due to the discomfort in his throat.
Emelie dimmed her phone screen and searched for some employment laws. She eased up after getting a brief picture of what would happen.
Emelie didnât know what William was feeling right now.
He had neither approved nor disapproved of Emelieâs resignation. According to the law, Emelie only needed to forward a 30âday notice to HR in order to resign. Her employment contract with Cloudex Corporation would terminate in a month, too.

William typed some words on his phone and showed them to Emolle, âFeeling guilty?â
Whether she was doing this out of guilt or fear of retribution, Emelle would treat it as returning the favor. After all, William did stay at the hospital the night she passed out from cramps.

He had neither approved nor disapproved of Emelieâs resignation. According to the law, Emelie only needed to forward a 30âday notice to HR in order to resign. Her employment contract with Cloudex Corporation would terminate in a month, too.
On all accounts, there was no reason Emelle couldnât resign.
But Williamâs âI get a say over who or when she marries for the rest of her life still haunted her deeply.
Emelle had just a week more to go. She couldnât mess up now.
She tucked her phone away and silently watched the IV drip, zoning out over time.
Williamâs throat was much better the next morning. He was swiftly discharged.
Emelie dropped him off at home at Eastbay, where he immediately went into the bathroom to wash up. He couldnât bear not showering. Furthermore, he had even stayed at the hospital for the whole night.
Meanwhile, Emelie arranged the medicine the doctor had prescribed William on the coffee table before leaving.
She hadnât even made it back home when she received a call from him.
âWhere are you?â William asked hoarsely.
âIâm heading home.â
âDid I say you could go yet?â
Emelie said coldly, âIâve already sorted out your medications, Just consume them as per the written dosage on the containers.â
William snorted before hanging up the call.
Five minutes later, Cloudex Corporationâs legal team dialed Emelieâs number.
They asked her about her leg injury, and when Emelie told them it still hadnât fully healed, they asked her to submit the latest medical report for her leg as proof. Otherwise, they had grounds to believe Emelie was lying about her injury.
Emelie was paid graciously at Cloudex. Sheâd be liable for fraud if she was found to have been lying.
After the call, Emelie dialed Williamâs number right away. âWhat is the meaning of this, Mr. Middleton ?â
