Chapter 44
Winning Her Heart Back
Chapter 44 Back to Work
William had finished showering and was slowly buttoning up his shirt in front of the mirror.
Heâd set his phone on the nearby dresser. Emelie could only hear the rustling of Williamâs shirt as he tidied up.
The bad thing about being too familiar with someone was that you could picture what was going on just by listening to the sounds they made.
William preferred black shirts and pants as they helped him give off a cold, distant air. He would crease his collar and tie a Tindsor knot around his neck fit for his status as heir to his family. Next, he would then get out a watch from theâ¦
Emelie squeezed her eyes shut, her brow furrowed, as she forced herself to stop imagining.
William took up too much of her memories, often interfering with her thoughts when she least expected it.
Emelie took a deep breath before saying again, âMr. Middleton.â
William opened his wardrobe and chose a suit amongst his others. âCome back to Eastbay and get a car from the garage. Youâre going to meet a client with me.â
He put on his coat and went downstairs after getting his phone as he fixed his cuffs.
âStand strong in your last week, Ms. Hoven.â
Emelieâs eyes flashed. Was William saying that heâd let her off once she finished working this week? She decided to check with him. âAre you saying I could resign in a week, Mr. Middleton?â
âYouâd better show up in 15 minutes,â responded William.
Setting most things aside, William wasnât that unruly in action.
Emelie felt more at ease. It was just one week. She just needed to hold on a little longer and not cause any trouble.
William chuckled. âAre you that eager to leave? Given your motherâs condition, I thought youâd want a high- paying job.â
Emelie was stunned.
Her motherâs condition? What happened to her mother?
Emelie had stopped contacting her family ever since they tried using her to pay off their debt three years
ago. She tried calling home two months ago, but her calls didnât go through. She wasnât sure if it was because theyâd changed their numbers or if theyâd blocked her.
Emelie hadnât truly wanted to reconnect with them anyway, so she didnât pursue the matter.
Williamâs sudden mention of her family threw her off, making her feel uneasy.
Emelie tapped the driverâs shoulder. âSorry, but could you drive back to Eastbay, please?â
Chapter 44 Back to Work
William had a private garage that housed his luxury cars. For convenience, heâd kept all the keys in a safe in the garage.
Emelie entered the password on the safe and retrieved a set of keys before starting Williamâs Continental. GT. When she drove to his house, he walked out and got into the car.
Emelie glanced at him through the rearview mirror. âAre you still in contact with my family, Mr. Middleton?
âDonât mix personal and business affairs during working hours, Ms. Hoven. Where are your professional ethics?â William retorted, tossing her a bundle of documents.
Emelie stayed silent, forcing herself to hold on a little longer. One more week!
She skimmed through the documents, quickly understanding what was going on.
Jeremy Ramsey didnât have a big company. However, what he had was the connections Cloudex Corporation desperately needed. Since Jeremyâs company was the only one to have this, they were demanding a lot in return.
William naturally wouldnât allow himself to be manipulated like that, so he was now in a stalemate with Jeremy.
Emelie returned to being meticulous, given this was a work matter. She asked, âWhatâs your lowest offered price, Mr. Middleton?â
William massaged his temples, voice ras
