Chapter forty four

“What happened?” Lucian said, worry on his toned face. This is not the time to admire your annoying soulmate, Raina. I looked away from him. If he had not talked like that I wouldn't have needed to run and I would definitely not have met and killed the hunter, Sophia. If that is even her real name.

“Don’t act like you care, please” My voice was low and weak. I wanted to care but I will not let him see how much his actions were affecting me. He held my hand and whispered.

“I do care about you Raina. Much more than you can imagine” He explains.

“Why didn't you stand up for me when I needed you,” I asked trying not to let my tears fall. Why does he switch up like this? This minute he wants to make effort next minute I'm some stranger in his pack he can't trust. He does not trust me, that's the problem.

“I’m sorry it seemed that way to you Raina”

“You’re not sorry you didn't stand up for me instead you are sorry I think that way? What is wrong with you Lucian? Do you want me here?” I couldn't help but ask because it does not seem that way to me. I looked up at him. He sighed.

“I sent Lucy to bring you back and apologize for her behaviour” He defended talking about the search incident. I scoffed at his explanation. I have settled things with Lucy but he has find a way to make it up to me.

“You know what she did to bring me here right?” I asked bringing my hopes up. Hoping he would see some reason for my explanation.

“She found you knocked out and brought you to the pack” He answered.

“No disrespect but how are you this powerful and so well known yet you have no judgement of character?” I inquired from him.

“She is my beta female” He argued.

“And I am your Luna. For whatever this is to work out you have to trust me” I explained.

“I need water please,” I asked. He stood up and poured me a glass of water. I took one large gulp to finish the water and asked for more. Lucian came back with the whole jug of water and I drank it all. I smiled at him.

“I am sorry I haven't been the best partner. I'm walking on being a better person for us both, I promise Raina. I really want this to work” He sounded desperate.

“Then why don't you want to trust me?” I asked.

“I do want to trust you but it's really hard when_” He started.

“When what? When you have to believe your beta female over me?” I finished for him.

“Yea but don't put it that way,” He said.

“There is no other way to put this. You don't trust me because your beta female does not trust me. How does it sound Lucian?”

“Stupid when you put it that way. I should have given you a chance especially when I was the one who brought you here”

“Yes. You should have” I agreed with him.

“Do you want to start over? Again?” He quickly added. I chuckled when I realised why he said ‘again’

“Only if you don't treat me like I am nobody. Next time you treat me like nobody I'm going to leave and not even Lucy will stop me” I threatened.

“I promise to treat you better, just like a queen you are” He promised.

“You want to talk about you and Lucy?” He asked.

“You didn't have to ask” I smiled at him.

“Where do I begin?” I teased.

“From the beginning” He answered.

“Wait this feels oddly familiar” I quickly said before I started, a feeling of de ja vú hitting me.

“What did you say?” He asked. I quickly nodded.

“It’s nothing” I replied. I remember! I had this dream a few days ago! When I badly hoped it was really Lucian begging to do better and it turned out to be a dream. I pinched myself to be sure I was not in another dream.

“Why are you doing that to yourself?” He asked holding my hands so I will stop pinching myself repeatedly.

“Nothing” I mumbled shaking my head. Real or not I really wanted to talk.

“So Lucy hates me because I am that girl in her childhood” I started.

“That explains a lot” He smirked.

“A lot. She made me remember her this day I had a bad dream and I wanted to come to you she dragged me into the library and made me remember her. She made noises so you would come out and she left before you got to the library leaving me alone in the library” I explained.

“And then I wanted to tell you, you did not listen. You told me to go to bed that we will talk the next day which made me angry but before I left I took the book about the feud. The next day when you took me to swim and I thought you were going to listen to me but as soon as Lucy came you disregarded me in a second. I was angry hence I shifted and then I met this vampire, he promised to give me back my friend if I brought Lucy to him. I hated Lucy then so I agreed. I knew how competitive she was so I challenged her to a race. I got there and then realised that the vampire lied to me. He brought Megan's dead body. Lucy was quick to get us both out of there before he could do anything”

I left out the part of her almost killing me in my dream because I will lead to questions I might not when have answers to.

“I am deeply sorry for my behaviour. I am not here because Henrietta asked me to, I want to be here and make it work”

“You said that the last time and you changed in the split of a minute” I reminded him.

“You were the one who changed. You suddenly became bitter and constantly argued with Lucy leaving me confused on who to believe”

“You weren't so confused when defending her” I mumbled making sure he was not going to hear me. I did not want to start another argument.

“What was that?” He asked.

“I said I guess I'll just have to give you the benefit of the doubt” I lied.

“I do not deserve it but I promise not to make you regret it” He promised.

“Don’t make promises you are going to break” I warned.

“I won’t break my promise. I never got to finish it seven days trial” He smirked.

“I think we were on day five?” I tried remembering. He nodded in agreement.

“We were definitely on day five. How do you feel?” He asked?.

“Fine surprisingly” I answered.

“How about I make tonight day six?” He asked.

“Fine by me” I agreed. If it did not work out this time I'll know I gave it my best.

“Wear something that will keep you warm,” He said leaving a kiss on my cheeks before leaving.
