Chapter 14 ~ Or We ask Dad

Alexander looked at me.. and I thought I had won.. until an evil grin swept his face. Damn it! Here it comes.. and I braced for it.

“When our little spitfire over there was seven.. she was so impatient. So convinced that she was smarter than Momma. Helena or Grandmom that she didn’t listen when they taught her a new task.. Start slowly.. Feel the magic.. Practice slowly.. small whirlpools.. Learn slowly.. start small..and gradually into bigger! Nope! Those words meant nothing after they showed her the skill.”

I stood up and said “Would you look at the time? Shouldn’t we been in conference?” And my own mate betrayed me! Pulled me down into his lap..trapping me.. while nodding at my brother! Crap!

Alex smirks “ Her task that day.. was water manipulation. I sat beside my baby sister.. watching her twirl the water in a little whirlpool.. she raises the whirlpool a little up.. out of the river. She turns to me saying I can do this. She spun the whirlpool in the air.. higher and higher.. apparently not realizing water that high.. attracts other water. Before we knew it.. clouds had joined the whirlpool. The static from the centrifugal force, caused lightning.. and now we have a full blown thunderstorm with a waterspout spinning down the river. Twenty minutes and 23 houses later.. it was over. The wind and water damage to all the houses had to be repaired by Momma and Grandmom.”

I said “It was one time! Once! And I was seven! And besides, you were there! You never said it looked like a bad idea! Never opened your mouth! Just clapped! So, of course, I felt encouraged!” He laughed “Hell no! I wasn’t about to stop you! I was too excited! Besides.. I was reveling in the fact I wasn’t going to be in trouble! For a change!”

We all needed a good laugh.. the girls were much more relaxed and we moved into the conference room. The girls asked me to sit with them. I sat between them and they each held a hand. Granddad asked “What pack are you from, girls” Anna told him RedClaw pack in Nevada. And Granddad asked “Is Alpha William Gray still in charge?” They both nod.. then Anna says “His son Ethan can’t be Alpha until he takes a mate. He tried to claim Ella.. over and over..as roughly as possible.., but he wanted her to consent. He gave her an ultimatum and she chose to be killed. So his father made him send her back home and take me instead. If he thought Ella was difficult.. he was in for a helluva ride with me! Our parents refused..and they were given three days to comply. My parents tried sneaking us out that night.. and the rest you know.”

I never turned loose of their hands… even if I held Emma’s a little snugger. Alexander held her other hand… rubbing little circles with his thumb to keep her calm. Granddad stood and said “Boys! We ride!” And I never saw a whole roomful of men leap to their feet so fast! I stood and said “I’m gearing up.” Walking to my room. I am so angry at that pack! I want recompense for what the twins lost!

I walked downstairs and said “Why don’t we have Grandmom join me and we make a portal?” And Alexander snapped “No! That would mean Ella or Anna has to go.. since they are the only ones who can visualize.” Anna stepped forward “I’ll do it! I want to see them pay!”

Granddad had already had Grandmom on standby.. we each grabbed a hand of Anna’s and looked into her mind’s eye. Seeing the front door of a pack house.. Grandmom and I opened the portal. The men went through by twos. Then we stepped through.

Alexander went to the door and knocked yelling “Open! By Order of the King!” And I giggled.. pretentious ass! I would have kicked the door in… but my brother is the consummate diplomat! The door opened.. and there stood a girl who looked alarmingly like the twins.

Granddad said “Bring your Alpha, girl! He has business with the King!” As soon as William appeared Granddad punched him! At least, he didn’t snap his neck.. That’s usually his go-to move! He says “William… you’ve been a bad Alpha! Forcing marks is a crime! One punishable by death! Get your son down here!”

We had formed a semicircle around Granddad..and the Alphas.. closing them against a wall barrier, so no one can get behind them. And then the neck snapping I referenced earlier…happened. He looked out over the pack and commanded anyone who supported forced mating to step forward. Only two stepped forward and died for it. Then he pointed to the Beta “John.. right? You’re the new Alpha! See that you don’t fuck up!”

Kendrick had been wrapped around me from behind whispered “The King don’t play!” I shake my head “Nope. He nearly died being the King of the people.. he won’t let anyone diminish that.” We opened the portal.. and just like that we are back in the conference room.

Ella ran to Alexander and it brought a smile to my face. The grandparents went home and we all settled in to talk about the mysterious man who has fixated on me.

I look at Kendrick.. then Alexander “If we operate on the assumption this guy in the shadows is behind the rogue attacks.. and the same guy that kidnapped me as an infant is the same man… then we have to ask… why me? What about me is this guy’s driving force? We know he calls himself a Rogue Alpha… while we know there is no such a thing. So, what’s he playing at?”

Kendrick says “Going with that scenario… He has unfinished business with you. We know the witch was draining your power.. but was he trying to find something else out from your weakened state? There’s too many questions.. too much time has passed”

Alexander said “It would be like looking for a needle in a haystack!” Everyone is quiet.. thinking when Ella says “Maybe not! If it was investigated as thoroughly as you said your parents conducted.. there is record of it. Probably files of investigative information just begging for new eyes to look at it!”

Kendrick looks at Jaxson and Jake.. “Get on it! Find everything you can..there has to be a digital record somewhere.” I asked Alexander “Should we check the office files to see if we can find any hard copy in them?”

Alexander grins saying “Or we ask Dad?”
