Chapter 15 ~ And I am Losing

Kendrick’s POV ~

Alexander dials Blaze and he answers right away “Dad, we have decided to comb through all the information you have accumulated over the years on Bella’s kidnapping.. We’re thinking maybe fresh eyes will pick up on something.”

Blake sighs “Your mother and I will be home in a few days.. it will be easier to get it for you.. then telling you where to find it” That sounded a little cryptic to me.. but it’s their parents and I won’t interfere.

I hear Alexander say yeah..thanks dad then he hung up. Bella grins “We aren’t waiting, are we?” He shakes his head and I get a glimpse of what a handful these two must have been as children. They must have driven their family nuts!

They stand, as Bella takes my hand and she says “To the office we go!” Once there, they start emptying the file cabinets.. and we all grabbed anything with the kids names on it. We read them.. and reread them.. but there was nothing pertaining to the abduction.. or the immediate time of their lives after that.

Their infant information.. through their first birthday… and nothing until their third birthdays.. that’s where it picks up again. That is again…a little odd to me. I ask “Where would your parents hide some they didn’t want anyone to see? Is there a false bottomed drawer in the desk? A secret compartment in the safe? Hell, I don’t know? A loose panel on a wall? What about a loose floorboard in their closet?”

Jaxson laughs “Where is my Alpha, Ken?? You sound like Nancy Drew!” I snap “Just throwing ideas out there, ya prick! You’re not funny!” Causing Baron to laugh “He’s kinda funny!”

Bella looks at Alexander “The attic! The locked trunk, maybe?” And they both ran out the door. Jake asks “Those two… I bet they were hell on wheels growing up!” Chuckling, I agree “To be honest, Bella seems like the instigator. She’s precocious.. even now” Baron shakes his head “You have no idea. We got in so much trouble. All of us being the same age.. we were the three musketeers. She could talk us into anything! That’s not to say Alexander and I were angels. We weren’t! But our Bells.. she and her Big magic! And! She isn’t even at her full potential until she mates you! Good luck with that, dude!” And I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little scared!

Jake looks up from where he had been searching the web for anything.. “I have some information here.. being the crowned princess had the spotlight on her from day one! The King announced Alexis was the heir to the throne, as a white wolf. When the twins were born, Charles, the King’s Beta, made an innocuous statement to a reporter, probably without even thinking.. he was accosted outside a restaurant and was asked about the twins’ births.. and he remarked ‘the legacy continues to the next generation’ . While he didn’t actually say a new white wolf was born.. his statement alluded to it”

That could have very well been the one thing that put Bella in someone’s crosshairs! “Fuck! Keep digging! The kidnapping of the princess could not have been just swept under the rug… reporters ferret out information from under rocks! Somebody had to have questioned it!”

Alex and Bella walk back in.. pushing and shoving each other.. she laughingly says “It was a doll, Alex! Just an old doll! Freaking out and breaking a lamp over its head was overkill!” He sneers “You didn’t see how that thing looked at me, with its one dead eye! What the fuck is wrong with our parents? Keeping a dirty one eyed doll just hanging around waiting to attack!?” She couldn’t stop laughing at him “Attack? It didn’t attack you! It Fell! Off a shelf.. above your head.. and you caused it when you hit the wall with the trunk! Ya big sissy!” He growls “Shut Up! Your hair is full of cobwebs!”

Baron asks “I’m taking it you two found nothing useful?” Alexander shakes his head “Just a trunk… with some really dumb shit in it. Some crystals.. runes.. a spell book for beginners. And some really old clothes. There was a really cool amulet and dagger, though. Don’t know what those are for. Apparently, our parents like keeping secrets!”

I asked if they checked for a false bottom in the trunk and Jax laughed “Dude! Yo, Nancy! Stop with all the hidden compartments!” We laughed.. but I still think it’s plausible!

Jake excitedly tells us “Found something.. a newspaper article “It has come to the attention of this reporter, the daughter of Blake and Alexis Sterling is missing. The family has refused an interview, at this time. And are staying with the No Comment scenario. But, it perplexes this reporter why the King hasn’t made a press release.. or asked for help from the public!” So, they didn’t want it to be made public. That, in itself, is suspicious.. but the whole coverup thing, is perplexing, as hell!”

Bella looks puzzled “You’re right, Jake! Why would they not ask for help? Or even acknowledge the fact I had been abducted? Alexander. I will be packing and moving to Harvest Moon with Kendrick. I need a few days before I confront your parents. The betrayal I’m feeling is making my magic wonky.. and I need to think”

Alexander walks over and wraps her in his arms.. “I understand, sweet sissy. Take a few days. Our parents may have our best interests at heart.. but the way they have handled all this is wrong! I’m pissed.. and want answers. But stop giving them to me when they upset you! They’re your parents, too!”

I laughed because I caught her referencing them as his parents, too. It seems to be a pattern, then! My heart is pounding.. she’s moving in with me and Brutus’s tail is wagging so hard my eyeballs are bouncing!

I followed her up to our room.. she was mumbling up a blue streak… but I wasn’t certain I should respond.. it seemed to be a conversation between her wolf and herself. I smothered the laugh because it seemed an intense one. She turned around and said “Go ahead! Laugh! Yes! I am arguing with this horndog of a wolf! And I am losing!”

That did it! I didn’t try to stop the laugh!
