Chapter 22

☾ 22: Choices ☾

Azure

"Let me start by saying your parents' journal, the one that Mason gave you, wasn't written by your parents. Only your mother." Katherine said.

"So... that was only a partial lie," I replied.

I kind of grew a bit bored after her revelation. That was hardly a big secret.

"A pretty big partial lie if you ask me. You know that vampires and werewolves have a lot in common correct?"

I nodded in response.

"Well, you are unique in the way that could do more than what werewolves can."

"Why's that?"

"Let me first go over the similarities between the two. Both can bare their fangs except werewolves have four canines that pop out."

She opened her mouth showing me her fangs. "Vampires only have the two."

Katherine continued telling me the similarities. Insane amount of speed, paired with strength and super hearing. She demonstrated as we ran to the river in the forest in the blink of an eye.

"How were you stronger than Mason earlier? Shouldn't strength be matched?" I asked.

"Enhanced senses including strength, is dependent on age, at least for vampires.  Naturally, we are stronger than werewolves due to being able to survive much longer. The older you are the stronger you are, and I am much older than him." She said as she sat on the river's edge.

"So... how can I do more than the wolves?" I asked.

"Simple. Your mom is a werewolf obviously...but your dad... He's a vampire." She looked over at me as I sat down beside her.

"Isn't that like two different species having offspring? How would that even be possible."

Katherine laughed in amusement.

"A child is possible between the two just as it would be for two humans. However, werewolves and vampires having children is forbidden. Both sides hate each other due to things in the past. The only thing both agreed on was no hybrid monsters to ruin the somewhat now peace between the two species." She sighed. "Of course, your parents knew this but love couldn't keep them apart. Eventually, they had you 'the special one'. You being born is why you're here in this place."

I scoffed. "Nice, so I am an unwanted abomination."

She grabbed my arm softly.

"That's far from the truth. The reason they sent you away wasn't because they didn't want you. You'd have a giant target on your back if you had stayed." Katherine said with a kindness in her eyes I had yet to see.

I couldn't believe what was going on. It was shocking enough finding out I was a werewolf but a vampire too? Not to mention being sent away from home due to people wanting me dead.

"Your mom is the Alpha of the werewolves and your dad is the king of the vampires. It wouldn't have been easy for them to keep you safe had you stayed."

My mind was still processing this new information.

"I heard you had a taste of human blood." She continued.

"It was an accident."

She laughed. "It's never an accident. It's in your nature as a vampire, your instincts are kicking in. In fact, hold on. I'll be right back."

She had reappeared just as quickly as she had disappeared. "Here catch."

I stood up catching whatever she had thrown at me. When I realized what it was I dropped it in shock.

"A-A blood bag? I-I can't." I sputtered at her implication.

"Yes, you can. It's completely normal. If you don't drink any you'll get weak. It's what you've truly been craving not whatever it was Mason was giving you. So, drink up! It's either this or straight from a human."

She ripped off the tube from hers and started drinking. I noticed her eyes turn red just before I joined.

After, she told me the things only vampires could do. That included temporary flight, or high jumping really, and compelling. Of course, their eyes also often turn red at the thought or sight of blood.

"So, why did you come here?" I asked.

"Your father sent me to come to get you. He wants you to go back to the vampire world."

"Really?... Why?"

"You're his daughter, duh. Plus now that you're old enough and know what you are he wants you home."

"What about my mom? Or the people that want me dead?" I asked in confusion.

Katherine sighed. "Your mom also wants you back of course. It's your choice where you want to go first but the side you don't pick first will see you as a traitor. Even though your parents still love each other they are still forced to be separate. For now... Arrangements are being made but they can tell you about that themselves."

I stayed silent.

"If you ask me I would go to the vampire world first. I'm not just saying that because I am one but your mom did lie to you... I'd also like to see you around more often... I could show you the ropes you know? Anyway, it's your call." She shrugged feigning indifference.

"I can't..."

"Listen, I know it's a tough-."

"No, I can't leave." I interrupted.

"What do you mean? Of course, you can."

"No. I can't I- I'm finally starting a life of my own here..." I said with a lingering thought of Laine.

Katherine laughed unamused. "Oh, right! You have a little girlfriend here. Isn't that lovely." She rolled her eyes.

"She's not my girlfriend... How do you even know about her?"

"Sure she isn't and please. Do you really think your parents wouldn't have ways to check up on you secretly? You're their daughter they've basically been stalking you. They check on you once in a while through their helpers and me."

"Really?"

She nodded in response.

"Listen we can't be here together with the human it never works out. Many always end up dead. That's why we have our own worlds to rule." She examined her nails as she spoke.

"I don't care. I won't hurt her or anyone else for that matter. I'll be able to manage here just fine."

"I wasn't necessarily saying you were the threat here. Humans are known for ratting us out and getting us killed."

"Laine would never-."

"Cut the crap. I've heard it all before and you know exactly how it plays out? They say 'oh no our love is real she or he will never hurt me.' Well never once have I seen any of those relationships last. Not once and I've been around for a very long time."

There is absolutely no way Laine would ever do something like that to me... right? She saved me after all.

"If I were to go with you... when would we leave?" I asked.

"I was hoping for tomorrow. After all, the sooner the better. I can't leave here without you either so I'm stuck being tortured by walking blood bags." She spoke in annoyance.

"Yeah, I can't."

"Oh my God! I'll tell you what. Why don't we just go visit your dad? You can even go see your mom too. Then after you can decide where you'd like to stay."

I was about to say no but I did want to meet my parents.

"Fine." I agreed.

"One more thing." She smirked as she stepped closer. "You have to stay for 4 days each then the decision is yours."

I rolled my eyes at her. "Okay fine but we don't leave here until the day after tomorrow. I want to say my goodbyes."

"Alright, deal." She tapped the tip of my nose. "We meet here. Don't be late I don't like to wait."

After saying those words she was gone in a flash. It's already dark out by this point. Laine was going to kill me.
