Chapter 34

☾ 34: Powerless ☾

Azure

I entered the living room and saw Laine sitting on the couch.

"Hey..." I said awkwardly.

"Hi." She seemed to be fine.

"Listen-."

"Cassy, you don't-."

"Yes, I do." I went and sat beside her. "Laine you were my first love..."

"Yes, first not last." She said as she looked me in the eyes. "So you're completely over me?"

I was a bit surprised by her question.

"I-I mean I did want to ask you out before but so much was going on. I didn't think you liked me and things became a lot more complicated when Heather began showing up more often. I just don't think life was in our favor."

"You're the one that would always run off and leave me out of everything. I tried getting closer to you." She replied.

Despite the truth behind her words, I had always assumed she just couldn't handle it. Either that or she'd end up getting hurt which was stupid for me to think about because she's a lot stronger and understanding than I gave her credit for.

"You didn't answer my question... I just want to hear you say it."

"Yes... I'm over you."

Before anything else was said I left. I didn't want to deal with the awkward atmosphere anymore and this was usually the time I met up with Katherine anyway. We agreed on secretly meeting at the same place from the night before.

-------------------------------------------------

If Kat called this fashionably late it's so beyond that point. I had no idea where she was and there were no signs of her being here either. I looked around for the hundredth time and noticed a tree shake in the distance. Me, being the curious person I was, went to go check it out. As I got closer I heard fighting. Using one of the trees to hide I looked to see who it was.

To my surprise, it was Katherine and two werewolves. It was even more surprising to me that they were beating her up pretty good. Even though she seemed extremely weak, every time the wolves were aiming to leave, she kept drawing them back in for more. I couldn't possibly understand why until the thought of them looking for me came to mind. I felt guilty knowing Kat was getting hurt for my sake.

Anger began swirling up inside me as they continued to beat her and knock her to the ground. So I did the only logical thing for me to do, I attacked. I turned into my wolf form and charged them with anger increasingly fueling my strength. They obviously didn't expect me and they actually looked scared. I growled and snarled as I ripped into their flesh. It was like a demon had taken over me. I knew I couldn't fight them both but something inside me told me otherwise. They were in bad shape as they managed to run away.

I then focused my attention on Katherine. I ran over to her glad to see she wasn't unconscious.

"What... do you think you're... doing?" She struggled to say as she tried to get up.

I just gently pushed her down with my giant paw in response. She dared to ask me that when she was about to get herself killed?

"You're going.... to get yourself... killed," she said. I just licked her face causing her to faintly laugh. "Gross." She smiled.

I nudged her hand to signal her that I could carry her back to my house.

She laughed. "In case you forgot I'm a vampire just... give me a minute it will heal."

I didn't want to give her a minute. I wanted to get her out of here. Considering those two wolves got away they will probably tell others about Kat's presence here.

I growled to prove my stubbornness. Katherine just rolled her eyes as she struggled to get onto my back. When we arrived at my house Katherine opened to door. Just my luck no one was around when I took her to my room. I went to my bathroom to change and when I came out Kat was peacefully laying on my bed.

"Me being killed?! What about you? What happened out there?" I began the bomb of questions.

She sighed and sat up, she wasn't completely healed but it was enough to where she could move without much pain. "I'm pretty sure I've told you before that I will always protect you. Even if it puts my own life at risk."

I walked over and sat in front of her.

"As for what happened... I could've taken them. All four of them... Well, if they didn't have a witch on their side. They must have had a spell on them constricting me of my vampire powers."

"Four? There were only two guys."

"No there were four, two of them stayed to fight me off the other two went to look for you. Did they not find you?"

"No. Unless they were stalking me."

"That's good yet strange." Everything was silent for a moment until she got up. "I should get going before someone finds me."

"Woah, wait. What do you mean? I'm sure those wolves probably spread the news you're here."

"Even more of a reason for me to go hide before they come after me, thus putting you in even more danger."

"Kat, I'm not letting you leave."

She came close to me and pecked me on the cheek. "Suit yourself."

I knew what she was up to so before she could back away I flipped her over onto the bed.

"Cass, come on." She tried to get me off her but she was in no state to outmatch me. I was kneeling over her, my knees between her legs, pinning her hands up over her head.

"I can stay like this all day," I said.

After a short while, she relaxed.

"So can I." Kat put her legs around me pushing my body closer to hers. At that moment I had let go of her hands to keep myself elevated.

She used that opportunity to wrap her arms around my neck, pulling me in slightly. Kat smiled probably noticing how red my face was getting.

"It's cute how after all this time you're still nervous around me." She teased.

"I-I'm not nervous..." I stuttered.

She flipped me over so now she was on top. We stared into each other's eyes as her's seemed to grow serious.

"Cass?"

"Y-yeah?"

She seemed very nervous for a second but something seemed to change and she had a straight face. "I... Umm... I love you."

I lay there under her in shock by her confession. I felt butterflies in my stomach, my heart was racing, and I blushed upon hearing her words. I grinned.

"I love you too," I replied.

She seemed relieved and smiled. I wrapped my arms around her neck and pulled her in for a kiss. Katherine pulled apart as her phone buzzed.

"Sorry, love. I have to go." She said standing up.

"What do you mean? Why?"

"Listen, I'll explain later but this is important."

"You're not putting yourself in danger are you?"

She smiled. "Please, I live for danger, but don't worry I would never leave you. In fact, how about I take you out sometime?"

"Why, Katherine. Are you asking me out on a date?" I raised my eyebrow teasingly.

She blushed, climbed back on top of me, and leaned into my ear.

"Of course, I have to make you mine before someone else does. Who wouldn't fall for you?" She whispered as she trailed soft kisses down my neck.

The action gave me chills.

"The more you do this... the more..."

She stopped lips returning to my ear.

"The more what?" She purred seductively.

I swallowed the lump in my throat remembering she had something important to attend to.

"Um... never mind... you probably need to get going."

Katherine seemed hesitant at first but soon got up. "To be continued then, yeah?" She smirked.

Before I got the chance to reply she was gone.
