Chapter 35

☾ 35: War ☾

Azure

I was sitting in bed trying to distract myself with a book. My mind kept going back to Katherine and whatever the important business was. I probably reread the same paragraph for the hundredth time when my door flung open. Speak of the devil.

"Get up! Hurry, we have to get out of here!" Katherine spoke frantically.

"Kat, what's going on?"

"I don't have time to explain right now. We have to go."

She didn't even give me time to get up. Instead, she lifted me up and ran using every ounce of her vampire speed.

I tried my best to focus on our passing surroundings. Then I realized we were headed straight for the portal.

"Wait! What about my mom? Shouldn't I tell her I'm leaving?"

"She'll be fine." She said as we sped through.

As soon as we entered the vampire world we were greeted with loud booms and I noticed Lance waiting for us. Kat placed me down and cupped my face.

"I need you to listen carefully, okay? Their army is ready to destroy you and they won't stop until you're dead. Your parents have an army of their own to help but it might not be enough. You and Lance are going to the human world he'll help protect you there just in case things here don't work out."

"What?! What about you?! You're coming too, right?!" I panicked.

"I have to fight for you." She paused as she wiped away the tears running down my cheeks. "I'll be fine but I need you to be safe first. They need me out here I'm stronger than 5 of these men combined."

"You never did tell me why you are so strong..." My voice wavered due to the overwhelming sense of worry and fear.

"Years of practice." She smiled as we shared a quick kiss. Then nodded at Lance. "Go both of you."

Before I had the chance to argue Lance had already brought us both to Earth.

I wiped the tears from my eyes as I gathered my thoughts.

"Lance, we have to go back and help!" I yelled.

There was no way I could just sit back and let everyone get themselves killed for me.

"No, we don't. I'm sorry but my job is to make sure you stay here and that you're safe. Kat can fend for herself."

"No, she can't! Did she not tell you that I literally just saved her ass?!"

"Yeah, she did."

"Well? I'm a lot stronger than I look okay? We have to go back and help! Shit if they want me they can have me as long as they don't touch her or my family!"

"You're not going anywhere." He said as he turned around. "Let's get going. I should probably fuel up on blood just in case."

Sorry, Lance but you're giving me no choice. I grabbed a nearby rock and hit him over the head.

"Ouch! What the f-!"

Oops, guess he's too durable for a rock. Thinking quickly I grabbed him and threw him into a tree causing the tree to fall. He seemed unconscious but I know it may not be for long.

Now I'm just left with the issue of getting back. I was told it was as easy as a thought. So, I shut my eyes and started to think.

Sure enough, I was back. Time either runs differently between the two worlds or things escalated very quickly.

The sky was red, and buildings were on fire and beaten down. This place no longer looked as beautiful as when I first arrived.

I needed to find Kat. She was my main concern right now.

While still in human form I sniffed her out. She was in a mob of many people fighting either to protect me or kill me.

I getting angry at the thought of these people hurting so many others when all they wanted was me. One life over so many... I don't understand how so many people could put their lives on the line for me. They no doubt have friends, families, and children worried about them...

I know I have a family now as well but that doesn't amount to all these people... It's a bit selfish to let all these people risk their lives for me. If they are going to fight it's only fair I do too.

I ran towards the fight, transforming, running at full speed snarling all the way. It wasn't difficult to tell who I should be targeting.

I first made my attack on a guy who was sneaking up behind Katherine, knocking him to the ground.

I was surprised at myself when I saw his head detach from his body due to my teeth.

"Cassy?! What are you going here?!" Katherine said while fighting.

It was different I could tell. She wasn't saying it out loud she was in my head like how Mason and I talk when we are wolves or don't want other people listening.

"There's no way in hell am I letting everyone else fight for me," I said as I choked a girl by pressing my paw against her neck.

"Cass, please go before you get killed!"

I ignored her and continued to fight. As well as I was doing I hadn't gone uninjured. They seemed to have a lot of those flowers turned into powder on hand. The fight seemed to be going on for hours. There was so much screaming, yelling, growling, and howling I struggled to hear myself think. Overall, we did seem to be winning which was good.

There was just one thing... One thing that pissed me off beyond imagination...

I had turned around to see Katherine on the floor with so much blood around her body... and two people... two of the few left ready to finish her off...

At that moment... my sanity snapped.

I didn't even get to attack the two who were about to kill her despite desperately wanting to. Instead, it seemed Lance and Mason beat me to it.

Disregarding everything, I ran towards Katherine. She looked even worse up close. She was drenched in blood, scratches, and bite marks could be found everywhere you looked.

I kept nudging her with my nose. "Come on Katherine! Please! Open your eyes!"

"Cassy, she.... seemed too far gone. I can't hear a heartbeat... I'm sorry." Mason said.

"No, no! She's not she can't be! She promised!"

I did the only thing I could think of doing. I bit my paw, letting the blood drip down into her throat, to help heal the injuries I couldn't see. I refuse to believe she's gone.

"Come on Kat. You have to help me out here..." I whined and began licking and nudging her hoping to see any sign that she would be okay.

I stayed there for a good half hour. Family and friends were behind me, watching. They knew just as much as I did... She was gone... but I wasn't going to accept that... I couldn't...

"If you go I do too."

I buried my head into her neck and the exact moment I did was when I faintly heard something... I slowly got up and stared at her face. Hoping, and praying for another hint of anything.

"It takes... a lot more than that... To get rid of me... Plus, I still need to make you mine..." My ears shot up as I heard the voice in my head. Kat still didn't seem to be moving but I swear... That had to be her!

"Kat?..." I listened closely and sure enough, I heard a single soft thump. Then another, and another ever so slowly picking up speed. Then her eyes began to flutter open but... something was different...

When her eyes shot open... they were purple.

A/N: I want to thank all of you who enjoy this story and even decided to reread it as I fixed a lot of grammar and overall plot errors! I did cringe myself redoing all this but I'm still glad people enjoyed it :). Despite fixing a few things I decided to leave the overall plot the same as I didn't want to completely rewrite this whole book.

There is still a sequel to this book and It's called Amethyst! I will also work on rewriting that one in the near future as well but if you feel like reading it before I get the chance to feel free! Again, thank you all.
