Chapter 1214
The Untouchable Ex-Wife
âDo you sleepwalk?â âI did when I was a kid, but I havenât done it in years.â Renee sleepwalked when she was young, and it scared her parents out of their wits. Her whole family did not even dare to take a deeper breath for fear of frightening her.
Renee recalled her past and explained, âMy parents tried everything to cure my sleepwalking. They tried both traditional and modern medical treatments on me. Well, to be honest⦠My mom even found a traditional trick to cure me.â
âTraditional trick?â
âYes, itâs called spiritual calling. She found an expert on it who came to my house to call my spirit in four different directions⦠The expert claimed that my energy was too weak, so I was attacked by something evil. That was why I started to sleepwalk.â
âThatâs pure superstition.â Stefan was full of disdain.
âYes, it is, but I never sleepwalked again after that. I donât know why I started to do it again recently. Could it be⦠Was I attacked by something evil again?â
âOf course not!â Stefan glared at her. Surprisingly, he seemed to be worried about her. He then said icily, âWe have to believe in science. Youâre strong and lively, so nothing would dare to attack you.â
âYes, thatâs true.* Renee nodded. She was not blind-she could see how worried he was about her. Warmth bloomed in her heart like a flower, and joy filled her. She had to hide that warmth so no one could discover it.
âBut youâve been calling me âCutieâ all night. Who is that?â Stefan asked curiously.
âErâ¦â She smiled awkwardly. âCutie was my dog. We were very close, but it disappeared after a while.â
Stefanâs face sank, and he felt like scolding her. âSo, you regarded me as a dog all night?â
âNo, I wouldnât dare.â She quickly dodged him and took the chance to put on her clothes.
Amidst the banter, sparks flew and feelings grew.
As he looked at Renee, memories flashed in Stefanâs mind. They were about Reneeâ¦
âAghâ¦â He groaned, holding his aching head.
âWhatâs wrong?â Renee nervously went to him and held his shoulders.
âIt feels like someoneâs cutting my head open with a knife⦠Agh, it hurts so much!â Stefan sounded agonised.
âLet it go. Stop thinking about it⦠Close your eyes, and relax.* Renee felt very sorry for him.
She kneeled on the plush carpet and embraced him as if she was coaxing Adie or Abby.
Silence ensued. Stefan felt the warmth from her body and smelled her soothing scent.
âIâm sorry.â After he regained his wits, he carefully pushed her away.
âItâs fine. I know that⦠your body isnât very good right now.â Renee felt a bit awkward as she smoothed her clothes.
âThatâs right. Itâs all because of you and your brother.â His gaze was glued on her as he said icily, âSo, keep that in mind. Youâll always owe me!â
Renee was stunned. She had a glib tongue, but she did not defend herself or argue with him this time. She kept her head low and echoed his words,â
Yes, Iâll always owe you.â
Stefan lifted her chin and growled, âSo, donât think youâll get rid of me that easily!
