Chapter 430
The Untouchable Ex-Wife
âOf course!â Leia agreed without any hesitation. She was just like her brother, and trusted Renee completely. âBestie, help me keep an eye on that guy, I trust your judgment.â
Before Leia left, she smirked at Renee, then patted William on the shoulder. âDo your best, but if my bestie wonât give us her blessing, I will never marry you!â
âDonât worry, Iâm confident that Miss Everheart can see how genuine my feelings are for you.â William smiled, looking at Renee with certainty.â Right, Miss Everheart?â
âMaybe.â Reneeâs lips curved upwards as she said mysteriously.
As the siblings left the ward together, the smile on Reneeâs face disappeared, and her gaze turned cold. âClose the door, please.â
William was rather cooperative, approaching Renee with a warm smile. âIâm sure youâve already looked into my past, Miss Everheart.â
Renee seemed quite surprised, huffing coldly. âYouâre smarter than I thought.â
âYouâre too kind, Miss Everheart. Leia talks about you a lot, so I know youâre a devoted, careful, and meticulous person. Now that your best friend is marrying all of a sudden, itâs reasonable for you to look into me.â
âGood, not only are you intelligent, but youâre quite understanding too. Itâs true that I canât nitpick much.â Renee had never expected William to be so humble. He wasnât mad that she looked into his background, which made her feel slightly ashamed of her own actions.
âCome clean yourself then, whatâs your purpose of getting close to Leia?â Renee asked straightforwardly, not intending to waste her time and energy. William smiled softly. âThatâs an odd question, isnât it, Miss Everheart? I love Leia, so I approached her because I want to be with her. Iâd like to become her husband and stay together for eternity.â
âSave it!â Reneeâs expression was filled with disdain. âYou may be able to fool a sweet girl like Leia, but you canât fool me. I know how twisted and obsessive your past relationship was. Besides, youâre a smart man, so you couldnât possibly have not known that your ex is considered a person of interest to us.â
âYou mean Briar Desrosiers?â Williamâs gaze shifted slightly, as his smile grew colder. âYou have great connections, Miss Everheart. I didnât expect you to find out about my terrible pastâ¦â
âThatâs right, Briar was indeed my first love. I was so in love with her that I went mad, and did a lot of irrational things just to win her heart. But thatâs all in the past now, and Iâve tried my best to wipe the slate clean.â
âI donât know how you found out about that, but it doesnât matter. I just hope you wonât bring this up anymore, when Iâve already regained my rationality and want to start a new life. Please allow me to do so, at the very least!â
Renee chuckled, her expression still frosty. âDonât act like a victim, I refuse to believe that you can fall for someone new after loving her so obsessively! You must have a hidden motive!â
She had been through enough to see through these scumbag men, and knew that she shouldnât trust them easily. Moreover, William and Leia were advancing way too quickly. With his history with Briar, she couldnât help but feel wary of him.
William didnât get mad at all, retorting, âWell, Miss Everheart, didnât you obsess over a man who didnât love you back too? You ended up quite hurt yourself. So, does that mean youâd stop loving after that?â
Renee looked taken aback. âIâm different from you. You loved Briar Desrosiers, so you should know what type of person she is. You-â
âAnd how is Stefan Hunt any better than Desrosiers? We share the same fate, so youâre just a pot calling the kettle black. If you can fall in love with someone new, why canât I?â
William tilted his head as he stared at Renee. âOr could it be that⦠youâve never moved on from Stefan Hunt, and you canât possibly fall for someone else?â
âThatâs not it!â Renee denied as she gritted her teeth.
âSo there you have it⦠You had the same experience as I did, and you still fell in love with someone else. So why canât I? Youâre just being critical because I fell for your best friend!â
âM-Maybe!â Renee replied, somewhat convinced
