Chapter 431
The Untouchable Ex-Wife
That would make sense, but she still felt like something was off because it was too much of a coincidence.
âIf youâve got nothing to hide, then come clean to Leia about your relationship with Briar. If she takes it well, I wonât say anything else on the matter,â Renee demanded.
Her biggest worry was that she was the reason why Leia was caught up in all this. Every time she met that woman, things went downhill.
âI know what youâre worried about, and itâs not something that I need to be reminded of. I will make sure to talk it out with Lei.â William promised Renee, his tone sincere.
âFine, you better be honest about everything, and remember what you just told me. If you try any funny business, Iâll make sure you regret it!â As Renee hadnât caught WiIlian slipping up, she warned him again for good measure.
William walked away from the room. Leia, who had been waiting outside, rushed up to him. âHow did it go with my best friend? Did you pass?â
âI think I got more than 80%,M William said honestly.
âThatâs pretty good, you got this!â Leia cheered. No one understood Renee like her. If William managed to get 80% of her approval, he had already passed her expectations.
William then held onto Leiaâs hand, and suddenly asked, âLei, if one day, you were forced to choose between your best friend and me, who would you choose?â
âIs that even a question?â Without a momentâs hesitation, Leia responded,â Of course it would be my dearest Ren. Donât even try to go for that spot, because you wonât win!â
She didnât look like she was joking at all â she sincerely meant it. Even though Renee always called her a lovesick fool, she was well aware that she needed to prioritize her best friend over any relationship.
If she had to choose, Leia would definitely pick her best friend over everyone. This was because there was a possibility that the men she dated would betray or hurt her, and her best friend would never do something like that.
âIf Miss Everheart were to ask you to break up with me, would you do it?â
âI would.â
âYouâd believe whatever Miss Everheart told you?â
âI would.â
A hint of dejection settled into Williamâs features as he replied, âOh, I see.â
âYouâre acting weird today, why would you suddenly ask that question? What did Ren tell you?â Leia asked, noticing Williamâs odd behavior.
âNothing much, I was just curious.â Williamâs eyes shifted, secrets still hidden away in his heart, making him feel uneasy.
After William and Leia went their separate ways, he reached the basement parking lot. Sitting in his car, he dialed Briarâs number.
âIâve already given you what you want. So when are you going to keep your end of the deal?â He asked in a hushed tone.
Briarâs voice over the phone didnât sound like her usual crazy self, nor did she sound weak or pitiful.
Instead, a chilly voice responded, âWhatâs the rush? Keep up the charade, I need to know where exactly those two brats are!
