Chapter 366
Even After Death
Olivia stayed by Chloeâs side at the hospital. They were in a private ward with one bed.
It was getting late. Chloe noticed that Olivia was nodding off, so she asked her to get on the bed.
It was a bizarre feeling. Olivia had wanted to sleep in the same bed with her mother for so many years,
but she never got the chance. She got what she wanted after they were revealed to be unrelated.
Chloe held Oliviaâs hand and said gently, âLiv, I donât care who my biological daughter is. I still owe you
a lot. Iâve been thinking about the past a lot while Iâm bedridden here.
âI was horrible to you and Jeff. This illness must be karma. Iâm ready to die. I have no regrets in this life.
Chris has shown me a lot of love.â
The light from the corridor shone on Chloeâs face. Olivia could see a happy smile on her face.
âLiv, Iâll treat you as my daughter even if you hate me and donât see me as your mother. I wasnât part of
your life in the past. Even when you got divorced and were down in the dumps, I wasnât there for you. I
owe you too much.
âI have some money saved up in a fund. I already went through the procedures of getting it out when
your fatherâs accident happened. Iâve taken the money out and asked Chris to deposit it in a card.â
Chloe took a card out from under her pillow and handed it to Olivia. âThis is the money Iâve saved up for
your wedding. Itâs not much, but itâs a token of my affection.â
All the resentment Olivia harbored over the years vanished at that very moment.
âI have enough money. Iâm just happy that you thought of me.â
âTake the money. At least Iâll feel better that way. Liv, can you do something for me?â
âWhat is it?â
With pursed lips, Chloe said slowly, âCan you call me âMomâ one more time?â
Olivia paused for a moment, but she still said, âMom.â
âGood⦠Good girl.â
Chloe turned to the side and hugged Olivia, who felt a little uneasy and didnât move.
âIâm sorry I left you for so long. I love you.â
âThatâs all I ever wanted,â Olivia said as she hugged Chloe back.
In Oliviaâs dream that night, she was no longer enveloped in darkness. She was back in the alley where
the other kids had pushed her into as a kid. They told her that she was a motherless bastard.
In the dream, she stood up with bruises all over and declared, âI have a mother! She loves me a lot!â
She held a smile on her face until the following day. The nurses couldnât bring themselves to disturb
them.
When Olivia woke up, she saw Chloe looking at her lovingly. Chloe brushed her fingers past Oliviaâs
face and said, âMy daughter is so beautiful.â
Olivia felt a little shy. âMom, Iâll definitely find your biological daughter.â
âIt doesnât matter if you find her or not. Youâll always be my daughter. I was stupid for neglecting you in
the past. Now, I just want to make it up to you in the final days of my life.â
Chloe kissed Olivia on the head and said, âLiv, I hope you have a peaceful life.â
Tears welled up in Oliviaâs eyes. She didnât tell Chloe that she didnât have long to live as well.
Although she had lived longer than the doctorâs estimate, her life would be at risk as long as the tumor
was still in her body. And when it got worse, she would be gone.
But she didnât want Chloe to worry, so she said, âOkay.â
Olivia got off the bed and helped Chloe to the bathroom to wash up. Comforting Chloe, she told her
that things would improve.
âMom, what do you want to eat? Iâll buy it for you. Iâll cook some chicken soup for you tonight. Youâve
never tasted my cooking before.â
âIt must be so delicious,â Chloe said with a glow in her eyes. âI want to eat matzo ball soup. I havenât
had the chance to eat it for quite some time. I wonder if the shopâs still there.â
âOf course, the shop is still there. Itâs been around for 20 years. Wait for me, Mom. Iâll buy
some for you.â
Olivia said a few more words before leaving. An unexpected guest showed up right after Olivia
was gone.
The door opened. Chloe thought it would be Chris, but she saw Marina instead.
