Chapter 367
Even After Death
Chloe was surprised to see Marina, but her surprise quickly turned into happiness. She had always felt
an inexplicable feeling of closeness with her.
âItâs so nice to see you, Marina. Have a seat.â
Marina thought Chloe would hate her after what she did last time. But she didnât see a speck of anger
or blame on Chloeâs face. All she saw was joy.
She put down the fruit basket in her hand and said, âI ⦠Iâm here to see you. I didnât mean to do that
last time. I was in a bad mood because I lost a game. Thatâs whyâ¦â
âItâs fine. I was never mad at you. But you shouldnât hold a grudge against your father. He only slapped
you because he lost control. Iâve already given him a talking to.â
Chloe could see the guilt in Marinaâs eyes. That was an emotion she had never seen in Marina before.
Marina didnât speak. She only stared at Chloeâs face, which had slimmed down a lot.
Chloe was undoubtedly a beautiful woman. Marina could still remember the first time they met. Back
then, Chloe was youthful and pretty. She was completely different compared to this frail woman on the
bed. Even her head of glossy black hair was graying.
âDo you not resent me for what I did?â It wasnât the first time Marina abused Chloe. She had thought
that Chloe was just pretending to put up with her. But who could pretend for over ten years?
Chloe shook her head and said, âWhy would I resent you? Youâre still just a kid.â
Holding Marinaâs hand, Chloe said, âMarina, I know youâve never liked me. Iâve tried to change your
attitude toward me all these years. But Iâve failed, and now I donât have long to live. Can you do
something for me?â
Marina looked like she had a lot on her mind. She said in a listless voice, âWhat is it?â
âI know your father will be sad when Iâm gone. Youâre his only daughter. You have to stay by his side
and comfort him. Donât make him angry anymore.
âI donât know if youâll believe me, but Iâve treated you like my birth daughter all these years. I had hoped
to see you get married, but I donât think Iâll be able to do that. Iâve prepared presents for when you and
Liv get married. Iâve given Liv her share.
âThis is for you and the kids. Itâs not much, but itâs a token of my affection.â
Marinaâs expression grew more upset when she looked at the card on her palm.
âThereâs one last thing. Although I donât know too much about your grudge with Liv, Iâve
heard about it. Liv doesnât owe you anything. Things have already escalated to this degree, so I wonât
say whoâs right or wrong.
âI just hope you can let go of the grudge and stop picking on her.â
Chloe pleaded, âI beg of you. Please drop this grudge against Liv, okay?â
In the past, Marina would have retorted. But as she looked at Chloe, it reminded her of the time Chloeâs
clothes were stained with blood. Marina felt sad and couldnât control her emotions.
She said stiffly, âI got it. You wonât die.â
âDeath awaits us all. The good thing is that youâre all grown up now. I can go in peace â¦â
Chloe was still talking, but Marina began to feel more and more restless. Then, she abruptly ran out the
door.
Chloe sighed sheepishly. She thought Marina ran away because she was tired of her nagging.
Marina ran out of the hospital at full speed. Her whole body was still trembling slightly after she
stopped.
When her phone rang, she picked it up. âHello?â
âDid you pull it off?â
