Chapter 378
Even After Death
Avery returned to the private room with a faint smile on his lips. âSorry for the wait. Iâve already sent
someone to deal with your problems. Donât worry.â
The man looked a little pale. When he smiled, there was a tiny dimple on his left cheek. He looked
much friendlier now.
âThank you so much. Mr. Fordham, you donât look too well. Why donât you get treated at the hospital?
Itâd be dangerous if you fainted again like you did last time.â
âItâs an old issue. Itâs nothing too serious.â
The waiter came over with their food. Olivia smiled at Avery. âI ordered some food. I donât know if youâd
like what I ordered, though.â
Avery had maintained this amicable air about him. So, Olivia didnât feel as nervous as she did at the
beginning.
As they dined, Olivia was surprised to find that her tastes were like Averyâs. They dropped slightly more
of the formalities from before.
Avery gazed at her with a gentle look in his eyes. âI think of my sister when I see you. Sheâs about the
same age as you.â
âYour sister must be very pretty.â
At the mention of his sister, Averyâs eyes lit up. âYes, sheâs very pretty. She was the apple of everyoneâs
eye since young. We pampered her to no end. But thenâ¦â
With that, the light suddenly went out of Averyâs eyes. Olivia hastily asked, âDid something happen to
her?â
âThat troublesome child went missing. I came here to look for her. I received news that she had entered
this country.â
âIs she still in Aldenvine?â
âIâm not sure. The only thing I know for sure is that she came here. She might have hidden her tracks to
prevent us from locating her. So, even after arriving here, I still havenât found her.â
âNo wonder you fainted by the road that day. Was it because you were looking for Ms. Fordham?â
Avery nodded. âYes.â
He pulled up a photo on his phone. âThis is my sister. I will be leaving Aldenvine soon. If find any clues,
please inform me.â
you
The woman in the photos was wearing a black outfit as she leaned against a black motorcycle.
She looked cool and wild.
âMs. Fordham has quite the personality. I thought that people from great families like yours would
always be elegant. I never expected her to be this cool.â
âAh, yes.â
At the mention of his sister, Avery added, âQuinn was quite docile when she was young. But then, she
somehow started rebelling.
âShe refused to study, and she would either chase after celebrities or race on the streets. Weâre
very concerned about her. Last year, she got herself a boyfriend, and she insisted on getting
married to him.
âSheâs already of marriageable age, but sheâs the treasured daughter of the Fordhams, after
all. Itâs not that we only accept wealthy candidates â¦
âHowever, the man had a less-than-satisfying background. He also has a history of domestic violence
and being generally unkind to women. He also didnât seem like the ambitious type.
âMs. Fordham, if it were you, would you let your sister get married to someone like him?â
Olivia shook her head. âMarriage is different from dating. Itâs a womanâs second chance to change her
life. If she chooses the wrong person, she will fall from heaven right into hell.
âI can see that Ms. Fordham was taking the plunge without thinking about it.â
Olivia knew this all too well. Ethan had an amazing background, but in the end, he left her with nothing
but wounds and scars.
âYes, we just want Quinn to marry someone reliable, and someone whoâd sincerely treat her well. But
no matter how you look at that man, he didnât fulfill those requirements.â
Olivia had more or less guessed what happened. âAfter your family objected to it, did Ms. Fordham run
away with this man?â
Avery frowned deeply. âYes. For the past six months, the man had convinced her to stand up against
her family. She thought that we wanted to marry her off so that the familyâs status
could be secured.
âIâm not boasting here, but there arenât many families in this world that could rival ours. Weâre not in any
financial crisis, either, so why would we form a marriage alliance?
âEven if we did want to arrange a marriage, she has four older brothers. We would be the ones getting
an arranged marriage instead.
âWe canât possibly sacrifice the future of our sister, who we pampered and loved since young.â
