Chapter 431
Even After Death
Ethan smiled sheepishly and said, âDad, I did something that upset her. But donât worry, Iâll be sure
to get her forgiveness.â
âGood man. I knew you still loved her.â
Ethanâs attitude reassured Jeff. âItâs hard to meet someone you love who loves you back.
âYou and Olivia are lucky to have found each other. Do not squander it.â
âI know that, dad. Iâll never let her down.â
Jeff smiled gently, saying, âYou donât have to trouble yourself by massaging my legs.
âYouâre the CEO of a huge company. People will make fun of you if they see you doing this.â
âIâm just helping out my father-in-law. Thereâs nothing wrong with that. Just focus on getting
better, dad. Leave the rest to me.
âIf you donât like the rose, I can get someone to plant some orchids. Iâll take you for a walk after your
legs get better.â
âOkay. Iâm happy to know thatâs what you think.â
It was already 10:00 pm when Ethan left Jeffâs room.
The light in Oliviaâs room was still on. She was reading a medical book on the bed when he entered the
room.
Olivia didnât even look at him when he walked in.
Ethan went next to her and turned up the light a little. He said gently, âItâs bad for your eyes if itâs too
dim.â
Olivia closed her book and rolled her eyes at him. She fell back onto the bed and covered her head
with
the blanket.
Out of sight, out of mind.
Ethan usually left the room when she did that, but not today. Olivia could sense him sitting down on
the side of the bed.
Ethan said softly, âIâm getting married to Marina, Liv.â
âI know. Iâm not your mom. You donât have to report to me.â
Olivia started to feel stuffy in the blankets, so she popped out for some air. She saw Ethanâs back
facing her. He looked devastated.
She quickly drove the thoughts from her mind. She couldnât afford to feel bad for Ethan, or
misfortune would befall her.
Ethan stared at the streetlamp outside the window.
The weather was becoming warm, and moths had started to appear. They were fluttering their wings
under the light.
âLiv, I donât love her. I never did,â Ethan murmured like he knew she wouldnât believe him.
âMy feelings for Marina were never affection. There was only responsibility. In fact, I â¦â
Olivia suddenly felt her stomach churning. She got off the bed and ran toward the bathroom.
She leaned over the toilet, retching.
Her stomach was churning violently, but she couldnât vomit no matter how hard she tried.
Ethan quickly went over and asked, âWhatâs wrong, Liv?â
Olivia rinsed her mouth with some water and glared at Ethan.
âDonât talk to me. The sight of you makes me want to throw up.
Ethan was rendered speechless.
âI am not interested in your relationship with Marina. I wish you a long and fulfilling marriage. Now, get
out of my sight.â
Ethan looked like he had something to say, but he sighed and left.
âGet some rest. Iâll get out of your hair.â
After he shut the door lightly, Olvia sat on the bed and spaced out.
After some thought, she went after him.
Ethanâs eyes lit up in delight when he saw her coming out. âLiv, you â¦â
âYouâd better keep this from my father. I donât want anything to upset him when heâs still recovering.
âUnderstood,â Ethan said with disappointment.
Olivia didnât pay the retching any mind. But in the following days, she started to gag at the sight of the
oil glistening on the food.
Then, the retching became actual vomiting, and she lost her cool.
She hadnât taken any medicine since she came back from the island. Her stomach hadnât bothered her
in a long time.
She thought her illness was back, but the vomiting only grew worse.
It didnât seem like a stomach illness. It felt more like what happened when she got pregnant. The
thought chilled her to the core.
After she gave birth to the dead baby and had massive bleeding, doctors told her she damaged her
body.
It would be hard for her to get pregnant in the future.
She never took the time to care for her health in the past two years. And she had only done it once with
Ethan that day when he was sick. It happened on a safe day.
She remembered what her doctor told her, so she didnât take any birth control pills.
Olivia couldnât believe that she was pregnant just like that.
Although she thought it was unlikely, she felt more panicked when she realized her period was two
weeks late.
She put her hand on her chest and comforted herself. It was okay.
Her periods had never been on time. It could come the next day. She shouldnât get so paranoid.
âOlivia?â Jeffâs voice came from behind her and made her jump a little.
Jeff rolled over in his wheelchair and said with concern, âYou havenât been eating much lately. Whatâs
wrong? Did something happen?â
âIâm fine, dad.â
Olivia quickly smiled and said, âThe new orchids are here. Letâs take a look. Itâs a huge batch of flowers
this time round.
The concern in Jeffâs eyes grew. He could see that his daughter was troubled, but she didnât tell him
anything.
Ethan was generous. He dug up a plot of land in the garden of roses to plant the orchids that Jeff liked.
Olivia could feel Jeffâs gaze on her. So she picked up a shovel and started to plant the flowers with the
servants.
