Chapter 439
Even After Death
Under Everlyâs cover, Olivia entered the ultrasound room.
On the surface, she was accompanying Everly to get an examination.
But in reality, she was the person who lay on the bed and rolled up her clothes.
The female middle-aged doctor was very gentle. âDonât worry, Iâll examine the baby thoroughly for you.â
Smiling, Everly said, âWe owe Calvin another favor now.â
The cold probe slid around the surface of her tummy. Olivia was both nervous and anxious.
She had been in ill health for the past six months. She even had chemotherapy six months ago, so she
didnât know if it would affect the child.
âDoctor, howâs the child developing?â
The doctor chuckled. âTheyâre still too small, so I canât be sure yet.
âStill, the gestational sac is at a normal size so far, and there are no signs of ectopic pregnancy.
âEverything is normal, so donât worry too much.â
âThank you, doctor.â
âYouâre welcome. Remember to maintain a good mood. Eat more vegetables and fruits, and take folic
acid every day, understand?â
Olivia thanked the doctor profusely. The doctor waved her hand. âCome back for a checkup when the
child has grown a little more.
âDonât do any strenuous activities for the time being. The first three months are the riskiest, after all.
Olivia replied, âOkay, I understand.â
At least she was sure that the child was fine for now. She was elated about it.
Seeing how happy Olivia was, Everlyâs mood improved a lot as well.
âLook at you! I havenât seen your smile in forever. Youâre smiling right up to your ears!
âYouâre a mother again, so think twice before doing anything in the future. Donât get mad because of
Ethan.â
âI know. I have to live for my childâs sake.â
Everly felt a hint of bitterness in her heart. Reaching out, she hugged Olivia as she choked.
âPlease be safe. Donât be sad about anything, and remember to smile every day.
âGive birth to the child in one piece, please. I want to pamper him as his godmother.â
Olivia replied, âI will.â
âCall me if anything happens. You can always depend on me.â
âOkay, got it.â
The two held each other, sobbing. Then, a knock sounded on the door.
A man in a suit and leather shoes was standing at the entrance. There was even a bouquet made of
real cash in his hand.
âDid I come at a bad time?â
Frustrated, Everly roared, âShut up if you know that you came at a bad time. Why are you so eager to
prove that youâre notââ
Before she could utter the word âmute,â she suddenly realized that something was off.
She looked at the handsome man standing at the door.
âOh, look whoâs here! My loveable and wonderful boss!â
She hastily dried her tears with her sleeve. Then, she strode toward the man.
When she passed by a stool, she even crouched and wiped it with her sleeve as if it were the most
natural thing in the world.
She was being extremely obvious about pleasing him.
âOh, Mr. Synder, you shouldnât have brought presents. You couldâve just come bare-handed! Iâm so
flattered!â
With a faked, flattered expression on her face, she reached out and took the money.
She even muttered, âYou must be tired from holding this bouquet, Mr. Synder.
âIâm not afraid of labor, so allow me to do all the dirty work.â
Grinning, Everly placed the bouquet inside a cabinet. She mumbled, âYou have great taste, Mr. Synder.
âOnly real cash carries weight like that. But it must be quite tiring to fold them.â
She behaved like a bona fide money-grubber. Olivia was stunned at the sight.
This was the strict boss Everly complained about every day, a villain in her dictionary.
Sensing Oliviaâs gaze, the man finally looked at her.
Hastily drying her tears, Olivia said politely, âHi, Iâm Everlyâs friend, Olivia Fordham. Eve often tells me
about you.â
âOh? What does she usually say about me?â
Everly stiffened. Smiling, Olivia said, âShe says that youâre very accomplished at a young age. âYouâre
also a capable leader and a role model for us. She respects you very much.â
