Chapter 88

Running Into You

The rest of Maggie’s pregnancy flew by, and she and Liam were back to the way they were before. They reconnected over a long weekend in Key West without the boys and were going as strong as ever.

The family and friend group were thrilled at the prospect of a girl.

The ladies in the group took Maggie out shopping to get all kinds of frilly outfits, shoes, socks, and everything pink or purple they could get their hands on.

Liam was shocked at the amount of money they spent on baby clothes.

“Oh, Liam, it’s for the next year! She has clothes as she gets bigger. Don’t worry, sweetheart!” Elizabeth said, kissing his cheek.

“And how many infants need a dress by Vera Wang?” he yelled as she went upstairs to help Maggie start putting things away.

Liam shook his head as she waved him off, muttering to himself about going broke and having to get another job.

“Face it, son, this little girl is going to have you wrapped around her little finger the minute you look at her, and you won’t be able to say no to her!

“Look at how your friends and family are with their daughters. You will be no different, I assure you!” Charlie said, clapping him on the back as he handed him a pint.

Two weeks later, the family was all at the school to watch Patrick’s end-of-year program, when Maggie’s water broke.

The kids were confused, and Dave paled at the sight of Maggie standing at the side of the gymnasium with a small puddle under her feet.

Liam took her hand and walked with her to the car, helping her in and driving to the hospital. Hard contractions followed and were quickly on top of each other.

“Mom is bringing your bag, and they are keeping the boys like we talked about, okay?”

“I really don’t care right now, babe! I really feel like I need to push, so unless you want your daughter born in the car, shut up and drive!” Maggie managed to get out through gritted teeth.

Liam knew that sound in her voice and sped up. He pulled in, picked her up, and carried her into the ER. The charge nurse all but ran with her up to the maternity floor and into a room.

“Shit, Liam! I have to push!”

“Oh, no! You need to wait for the doctor and the supplies! He is on the way, Mrs. Olsen!” the head nurse yelled as she was getting Maggie in stirrups and threw a paper gown to Liam.

Liam was putting it on when the door burst open, and the doctor came in with a string of nurses carrying equipment.

“I hear this little girl is not waiting! My name is Dr. Erickson, and I’m the Labor and Delivery doctor on call.

“We have a call out to your doctor, but I think it’s hopeless as fast as you are progressing,” the short studious-looking man said as he rolled up to check Maggie.

“Okay, everyone in the room, we are at nine centimeters, this baby is coming in minutes! Be ready!” Dr. Erickson yelled.

Three nurses were ready as Liam held Maggie’s hand, helping her breathe. He knew that it annoyed her, but he was a little freaked out and had to do something to keep from having a panic attack.

Ten minutes later, the younger doctor was telling Maggie to start pushing. Having a baby after the twins was easier, and three pushes later, their little girl came out, crying her little heart out.

Liam was stunned at how quickly it all happened. He glanced at the clock and felt his jaw drop to discover they had been there for just twenty-five minutes.

Maggie was still in her top from work, having had no time to change.

They were cleaning up his daughter as he watched her, enthralled. His father was right! While Liam loved his boys, there was something about watching his daughter.

He was rubbing her little arm and cheek as the nurse finished up. He looked at her and knew instantly that he was truly fucked, and he could never deny her anything.

The nurse handed her over. “Daddy, take your little girl to meet Mommy!”

Liam took her gingerly. She was a miniature version of Maggie, just like how the boys were replicas of him. The little girl had the same shade of red hair and even had the same mole by her ear.

He walked over to the bed and sat on the edge as the nurse helped Maggie get comfortable after cleaning up the placenta.

“Darling, here she is! Just look at her! She is just as beautiful as her mommy!”

Maggie looked, noticed her resemblance, and started crying. “Oh, Liam!”

He watched his wife examine her daughter in awe and reverence, touching her face and hair. She traced the gentle curves of her lips and nose and the way her red hair curled at the tips.

Her daughter was a replica of her except for the dimples on her cheeks that could only be from Liam.

They sat together and watched her move and fight to open her eyes. She cried, signaling that she was ready to eat,

Liam marveled at how his daughter’s skin was the same shade as his wife’s as she fed from her breast. They were talking and whispering as she fed until a knock on the door interrupted their reverie.

“Come in,” Liam gently called to not scare his daughter. His mother came in, carrying Maggie’s bag.

“I brought your bag so you can get comfy before she is…”

Elizabeth stopped when she looked at the bed and saw three people sitting there.

Her eyes went wide as she saw the bundle of blankets on Maggie’s lap. “What? How? I have been gone an hour!”

They chuckled lightly. “Well, Mom, it appeared that this little one has no patience.”

“I suppose so!” Elizabeth said as she teared up, walked over to her son’s family, and hugged them. “She is so beautiful, Maggie! Just like her mom!”

Elizabeth pulled a chair up and sat next to them and when the baby was done feeding, Liam handed her over for the new grandmother to hold her youngest grandchild.

“She is seven pounds six ounces, and twenty inches long. We will tell you her name when Dad gets here tonight,” Liam explained.

Charlie and Elizabeth were supposed to bring the boys up to see her, and they would tell them together.

Beth held the little girl for a few more minutes and then kissed her, handed her back to her mother, and kissed them all goodbye, promising to bring the boys up in the morning.

“That way you can get some sleep, okay?” Beth said as she left, blowing them kisses.

The nurse came in and took the baby to the nursery for some shots and a full bath. Another nurse came in to help Maggie shower, and Liam went out for food.

When they were fed, showered, and settled for the night, Liam slept on the pullout in the room, staying just in case he could help with anything.

The next morning, Beth and Charlie brought up the boys along with Niall and Joan. They all cooed and looked at her, admiring her delicate features.

“But Mommy, what’s her name?” Isaac asked.

“Well, sweetheart, this is your sister, Evelyn Rose Elizabeth Olsen,” Liam said.

Beth teared up at hearing her name. Pictures were snapped and texts and emails were sent to show everyone else.
