Chapter 70: So He Is the Richest Man
Dad, Stay Away from My Mom
Melinda reluctantly pressed the answer button on her steering wheel. "Hey, Mr. Thomas, what's up?"
"Where's your car?" Raymond's deep voice came through the phone.
"I'm off work, picking up my son. If it's not urgent, Mr. Thomas..."
Before Melinda could finish, Marc's alarmed shout interrupted her. "Ms. Sharp, watch out!"
Melinda had almost rear-ended the car in front of her. She quickly slammed on the brakes, her heart pounding. Driving while distracted was definitely a bad idea! "Who's the guy in your car?" Raymond's voice suddenly turned icy.
Melinda felt a wave of frustration. She quickly explained, "Mr. Thomas, I'm driving. It's not a good time to chat. Goodbye." She hung up the phone.
Marc looked at Melinda, bewildered. What was the relationship between this Mr. Thomas and Melinda? The way they spoke didn't sound like a boss and employee, more like a married couple.
Was he getting himself into trouble?
The phone rang again. When Melinda answered, Raymond's angry voice filled the car. "Melinda, did you just hang up on me?"
Without hesitation, Melinda hung up again.
Marc watched in awe. Melinda had the guts to hang up on her boss, not once but twice. That took some serious courage!
Meanwhile, in the underground parking lot of the lab, Raymond's face was dark with anger. He had been delayed by a video conference and arrived a few minutes late, only to find Melinda had already left.
Who was that man? Ms. Sharp... that voice sounded so familiar. But he couldn't place it.
Raymond clenched his fists, determined to find out who that man was. He called his assistant, Stuart, and ordered, "Come pick me up."
Melinda, now more comfortable with her car, drove smoothly. The kindergarten was just letting out, and many parents turned to look at her car.
"Look at that, a car worth over a million dollars."
"Really? Last time I saw her husband driving a car worth several million. I asked around, and you can't find many like that in all of Shadow City."
Melinda was skeptical. She had bought the car for $300,000. How had it suddenly become worth over a million? Could he have secretly swapped it?
Marc, sitting beside her, was also puzzled.
After dinner, Melinda drove slowly towards her apartment complex. As they approached the underground parking entrance, a silver Rolls-Royce Phantom, like a beast in the night, waited silently.
The man inside had sharp eyes and immediately recognized Melinda's car.
The Rolls-Royce blocked the road, forcing Melinda to brake hard. The tires screeched against the pavement.
Melinda stared ahead, anger rising. This was the parking entrance. How could someone be so unreasonable?
But when she saw the tall figure stepping out of the car, her anger was replaced by a sudden fear.
Raymond. What was he doing here?
Melinda watched as Raymond walked towards her car, his presence intimidating. She swallowed nervously, her heart pounding.
Marc, sensing something was off, peeked out and saw Raymond's stern face.
Marc's heart sank. Was this the boss Melinda had mentioned?
Raymond approached Melinda's car and leaned down to look inside.
"Mr. Thomas, you're here. We went out for dinner with my mom and Mr. Murray. Sorry we didn't wait for you!" Sam opened the car door and ran to Raymond, hugging his leg with a guilty look.

"Mr. Thomas, are you hungry? How about we order a pizza? My mom will pay." "Sure! I'll wait at the door. Hurry back."
Raymond picked Sam up, turned, and placed him in the back seat of his car with a gentle smile.
The silver car moved aside, and Melinda knew Raymond had a strong need to control her, but he was always kind to Sam.
She started the car and drove into the parking lot.
Marc felt conflicted. He realized his pursuit of Melinda was probably over.
Melinda parked the car, and she and Marc carried their things upstairs.
Marc noticed Sam's profile and was shocked again. The child looked so much like her "boss"!
Could it be... Marc didn't dare to think further.
"Thanks for dinner. Can we still be friends?" Marc tried to keep his voice steady.
"Of course! Sam likes you too. If my computer breaks, I'll need your help, Mr. Murray." Melinda smiled gratefully at Marc.
After parting ways with Marc, Melinda took the elevator upstairs.
As the elevator doors opened, she saw two figures at her door-one big, one small. Raymond looked grim.
Was he jealous?
"Mommy, you're back! Mr. Thomas is starving," Sam said seriously, holding Raymond's hand.

Melinda remembered Raymond's bad stomach and irregular meals. How could he keep this up? She quickly opened the door, letting Sam in first, followed by Raymond.
"What do you want to eat? I'll make it," Melinda asked as she changed her shoes. "Something simple. I'll eat whatever you make." Raymond wasn't picky, as long as she made it.
Melinda headed to the fridge. Luckily, it was well-stocked. She took out some greens, a tomato, and two eggs, planning to make a nutritious tomato and egg pasta.
When she was sick as a child, her mom always made this for her. So, whenever she was sick abroad, she craved her mom's homemade pasta.
As Melinda closed the door, worried about the smell of cooking, the doorbell rang.
"It must be Mr. Murray," Sam called from the living room.
Raymond stood up and walked to the door. "You stay here. I'll check."
When he opened the door, Marc was surprised to see Raymond. "Is Ms. Sharp here?"
"She's cooking," Raymond said coolly. "No need to bother you with computer repairs anymore."
Before Marc could respond, the door slammed shut.
Holding the memory stick, Marc stood outside, suddenly remembering who that man
was.
He quickly pulled out his phone and searched the global rich list.
Soon, he found an article from five years ago. The man ranked number one was the same man-Raymond, the head of the Thomas Group!
