Chapter 4

Max and I talked for hours, and it felt...natural I don’t know why but I want to be around him all the time. Max is the oldest of 3, he has two younger sisters. His sister Rose is in an arranged marriage with an alpha from another pack. His sister Maybelle isn’t 18 yet and she wants to find her mate. Rose never did hence the arranged marriage.

Max is 20 about to be 21 when he will take the tittle as Alpha King. We stood there for a little while longer getting to know each other’s backgrounds. I told him about my old pack, my friends and why I left but I left out that I could shift of course. He drove me back to the hotel that night, but he would only leave if I promised to come back the next day and I did.

The next day I woke up with this terrible pain in my chest. I rummaged through my bag and found some medicine to help with the pain. It didn’t really help. I got dressed in jeans and a black crop top with convers. It was a 15-minute walk to Max’s home if I can call it that. When I got there, he greated me at the door and welcomed me in. The pain in my chest went away the moment I saw Max, and I knew why.

I am Max’s mate how did I not notice this last night at any point. “I feel stupid” I said under my breath. “Why” Max asked hearing me as we stood in the entrance. “Uh oh um nothing just thinking out loud” I said lying through my teeth. He just looked at me then frowned “please don’t lie to me” Max said looking down at me. I looked down then back up I opened my mouth to say something, but nothing came out. I looked down again and Max took my chin in his hand “let’s go to another room” Max said. I nodded and he led to the library, once we entered, I was at a loss for words the library was huge. “So, where were we” Max asked looking down at me once again. I looked up and that’s when Max said the magic word “mate”. I looked at him in pure shock then he smiled "you knew” I asked “yes” he said still smiling “and you didn’t tell me” I said. Max just chuckled and nodded “for how long” I asked “since the ball when I held your hand and helped you stand” he said.

It’s been a few days since we had that conversation, Max and I have spent every day together. I can feel myself falling more and more in love with him. We decided to stay friends for the time being, but I don’t want to be just friends anymore. The mate bond has grown and I’m not sure if I can fight against it anymore.

Right as Max was about to kiss me one of the guards walked in “Excuse me sir we have a problem” he said, “what is it” Max practically growled I hugged his arm to try and keep him calm. Max looked down at me and smiled, I swear my heart stopped. I unraveled my arm from his and backed away. “What's the problem?” Max asked his guard. “It’s better if I show you” he said Max turned towards me and said “I’ll be back ok” I smiled and nodded.

A few minutes after they left, I decided to go find the terrace Max and I had our first real conversation. I heard Max yelling then I saw him storming into the kitchen. I wanted them to know I was here so I could help Max, but I don’t know what to do. “Well, you need to get married before the war between the pack lands happen Max, rather it's with your mate or not” the man said. “You don’t think I know that but I’m not going to force someone into that, especially not her” Max said. “Dude if you don’t force it I will” he said “Darek I’m not forcing my mate to marry me if she’s not ready” Max said sounding agitated. One of the older guards walked in alpha she’s gone. “W..what do you mean she’s gone” he asked, I..I could hear the fear in his voice, the fear of losing me.

And then he said it, “I..I can't lose her she’s the best thing that has happened to me since the attack. “And you won’t lose me” I said stepping into the kitchen. Max turned around and hugged me not letting go and to be honest I didn’t want him to. “Why were you on the terrace” he asked “I wanted to feel the cool breeze and feel the sun” I said looking down. “I’m sorry if I worried you” I continued, Max hugged me again and said, “it’s ok, you have nothing to be sorry for”. “Well at least she knows what she must do” Darek said.
