Chapter 488
Meet My Brothers
âYouâre being too understanding, Mia. It pains me to see you like this. Donât worry. At the upcoming
party this weekend, every one of us is there for you.â
Eva gritted her teeth, recalling that a charity auction would be held during the party.
Considering that the Barretts were the host, Eva was resolute to teach them a lesson that night.
How could she simply turn a blind eye to Miaâs suffering when Dominic couldnât either?
Meanwhile, Mia simply assumed that Eva had given up on a retaliation, hence the sigh of relief. âWeâve
bought the clothes we need. Letâs go home.â
âOkay. Bill, please.â Eva bought many clothes as though they were worth nothing. She seemed used to
it.
That strange feeling stirred in Mia again.
Still, Evaâs spending wouldnât cause a problem because Dominic and the others were raking in big
money.
Together, they returned home with fruitful shopping. Patricia kept rambling about how wasteful they
were at the sight of the pile of clothes, but that didnât stop her from getting changed into new clothes
happily.
Mia washed up and lay in bed. Her phone buzzed. A text read: âWhy didnât you take the bag? It suits
your dress.â
Timothy Barrett, again.
She thought of a reply to that: âBecause I donât like it.â
As soon as she sent the message, Timothy called her.
Although she hesitated for a moment, she answered the call. âHello? Anything?â
âCongratulations on reuniting with your family. Grandma will be happy to hear the newsâ
Silence dawned on her for a second. âIâll tell her about it soon.â
âI heard your family is quite rich. Who are they?â
âTheyâre from Nord City. Theyâre not that rich, but they doted on me. Theyâre generous with money
whenever it comes to me.â
âNo wonder you didnât care about money when we divorced.â
Sharonâs distorted expression conjured in her head, lifting her spirits. âYes, because I donât lack
money.â
Timothyâs chest tightened when he heard that. Often, he had the feeling that Mia was getting farther
and farther away from his reach.
She smiled. âOh, Mrs. Barrett snitched on me, didnât she?â
âYup, she asked me to drive you guys out of the mall.â
âWhy didnât you do as she said?â
âIâm a businessman. This is the rule of thumb in the business world. You guys own a VIP membership
card, so you have the right to have the whole place to yourselves.â
Mia didnât know how to respond to that. âYou are a qualified businessman, Timothy Barrett.â
Then, she hung up the call.
He glanced at his phone. An unexplainable weight stifled his chest.
His eyes shifted to the building outside.
In the past, heâd returned home after work every day; but now, he didnât know how long it had been
since he last returned to his marital home on time.
The place felt so empty after Miaâs departure. Something was missing.
Frustrated, Timothy reached out to Caleb. âFound out who Miaâs family is already?â
âNo clue for now. Thereâs no change to her family background, so I canât find anything.â
Timothy massaged his temples. Connor somehow crossed his mind when he thought about Mia
becoming a resident of Nord City.
Connor came from the same city too!
Coldness seeped into Timothyâs tone. âNo wonder the Lanes, especially Connor, are close to her. It has
something to do with her family.â
âDoesnât that make them a perfect match?â Caleb blurted.
Dark clouds shrouded Timothy almost instantly. âShut up.â
âTim, if you genuinely want her back, make her fall for you again before the divorce happens. If you fail,
just donât sign the divorce papers! Youâll lose your wife unless you become shameless.â
Timothy paused momentarily.
That idea sounded feasible.
