Chapter 499
Meet My Brothers
Mia burst into laughter. Mayaâs words didnât bother her in the slightest.
Mia headed to the waiting room to make sure the decorations were in place.
Maya was displeased that she was being ignored. She looked at Shelly next to her. âShelly, donât you
think I have a point?â
There was something awkward about Shellyâs expression. She let out a wry cough. âMs. Lane, about
Mia, thereâs a secret I have to tell you.â
âWhat is it?â
Shelly hesitated momentarily. âCan you unfreeze my credit card? I need money lately.â
Maya wasnât happy to hear that. âShelly, youâre quite the spendthrift. I think you should learn to save
money or at least how to earn money. You canât keep asking for money from your family when youâre
already an adult, can you?â
Maya was suppressing her emotions. If it was not for Shellyâs status, Maya wouldnât have cared about
her, let alone give her a credit card to spend freely.
It was all in her plan to be one of the Barretts successfully.
However, there was nothing Shelly could do to help. The only thing she was best at was splurging
money.
Now that Mayaâs credit card spending limit had been reduced by the Lanes, she had to tighten her belt.
Not getting the answer she expected, Shelly huffed, âMs. Lane, donât be so stingy. Youâre my future
sister-
inâlaw.â
âAnd that is exactly why Iâm doing this. Itâs for your own good. No one borrows money from someone
distantly related, do they?â Maya figured that Shelly needed a piece of advice so that she could grow
up.
Shelly was slightly angry to hear that. âWhat do you mean by that?â
âShelly, Iâm saying this because I see you as family. Oh, didnât you say that you have a secret about
Mia?
What is it?â
Shelly paused. âOh, I forgot.â
Why would she let the cat out of the bag when Maya froze her credit card and said such harsh words?
Maya wanted to ask further, but Blake called her, âMs. Lane, weâve tracked down Dana, but she ran
away from the luxury store. I think sheâs at college.â
Maya hung up the call in a good mood and looked at Shelly. âThe ceremony is starting soon. My
brothers will be attending. I have to go. Make yourself at home. Remember to stay out of trouble.â
She then left as soon as she said that, fearing that Shelly would demand a hefty sum of money from
her.
Judging from Shellyâs intelligence, Maya reckoned that the secret privy to Shelly wasnât worth hearing.
She might as well take advantage of Dana instead.
A furious Shelly snorted, thinking, âI was going to tell her that Mia bought the same dress as well, but I
guess thereâs no need for that. Having the same dress isnât anything to be afraid of. Whatâs worth
fearing is who is more of a fashion disaster in it. Now that Mia has found her rich parents, she could be
richer
than the Lanes in the future.â
As an afterthought, Shelly figured that her reasoning made some sense. She turned to look for Mia.
âHey.
I have something to tell you. Itâs a secret about Maya.
âIâm not interested. Please make wa
way.
âShow me some respect, Mia Bowen.â Shelly blocked off the doorway with an awkward expression.
âIâve finally seen Mayaâs true colors. I donât think she should become my sisterâinâlaw. Youâre much
better than her. Plus, youâve found your rich family. That makes you on the same level as us.â
